There are alot of articles in Billboard indicating that the new "People Meters" are starting to impact the national radio audience ratings in stunning ways. As Mediabase & BDS move away from ratings diaries to People Meters for their audience measurement, it is becoming clear that CHR stations are getting far greater ratings than ever before. Note that all the songs benefiting here are played at CHR - Country and Urban songs did not see as huge growth. I bet these new numbers reflect a recent retooling based on the new info. What is a people meter?

What is a people meter? If I'm not mistaken, its a device with a button that a listener pushes to indicating that he/she is listening to a particular station. Similar devices have been employed by Neilsen to track television viewership.

What is iCarly? Is that a kids show? It's a kids/pre-teen/teen sitcom airing on Nickelodeon, starring Miranda Cosgrove. Its one of the most successful shows on cable right now.

wolfj, you're right. That's pretty much what a people meter is; It is replacing the decades-old (& arguably flawed) methods of gauging ratings. Billboard articles have suggested that the main beneficiaries of this new information are Top 40 stations which is why you have been a few stations flip to CHR, because at this point the format is seen as more profitable than at any time in the last 10 years.

Good. Maybe that will help more CHR songs top the chart next year and in the years to come.

so any in depth thoughts about who's gonna be #1 this week? It's gonna be either Firework, WMN, or Grenade. Which one? Will the station changes affect BDS? And if so, how much?

Well, I think mediabase only added new stations, not BDS? Or they have already added it. Mediabase's numbers have been lower than BDS' but now they are almost the same and mediabase's numbers may be bigger now like tey used to be.

I believe Firework will more than likely hold the top spot for at least one more week because of its insane airplay gains, then Grenade will take it next week.

Firework Then grenade might pull a Tik tok and take it for many weeks to come. I see Rihanna staying in the top 3 for awhile but I think the sales will play the main factor into where she lands. Ready for 2011 #'1s Britney, Avril, Gaga, Beyonce, maybe Kelly and the others.

Last time he went, he came back and scored 3 consecutive #1 Airplay hits. It remains to be seen if he has hit his peak. Besides, Castle Wall is just not a good song. Like, at all.

The three years before that were the build up...the pop crowd has moved on. Can you explain his recent songs failure to match anywhere near Whatever you like, Live your life and Dead and gone? It's not a bad thing. it's the natural life of an "it" person of the moment. I would be shocked to see that happen again, although it would have been nice to see him score 3 #1 hits back to back on the hot 100. Forgot which song blocked him ???

T.I. vs T.I.P. produced no Pop hits and one moderate Urban hit (released between King & Paper Trail), so it wasn't an gradual rise. Either way, I do feel that his success on Pop was an anomaly in itself, but he can still be successful at his core. Going further, none of his recent singles have been good (especially compared to the aforementioned) and they find him moaning about his legal situation. I just wouldn't count him out, yet considering his history. But, I digress. Right Round blocked Dead & Gone.

looks like a 3rd week at #1 for Katy with "Firework". If Grenade doesn't start commanding a substantial lead over Firework, it might be #2 again with Firework being #1 for a 4th week. She is gaining rapidly on him on airplay (and anyone else). Sales have to be big from here on out for him to grab the #1 spot. I think Katy has week #3 on lock at this point, only with airplay rising. Week 4 here we come!
