Oh god. I can't wait to hear this trainwreck in the making. Considering who's in your avatar I would be careful of what I call trainwreck... just saying. As for the rumors I'm sceptical aswell though. M.I.A. is a unique artist, but the problem is that she's not rumored to work with her musically, just as a featuring act. It's still a Solveig production which I find meh. But the worst rumored colabos are Benassi and Jean Baptiste, those are just awful colabos. I cross my fingers I will be happily surprised by this album, but those rumors doesn't look too bright. I'm fearing another Hard Candy spectacle where she's desperately trying to cater to the US tweens, but gets too late on the bandwagon. I hope though she regains her creativity for this album, which was kinda lost lately. The Nicki I won't even comment on, that just seems desperate.

The one fan site said the album has deeper, more meaningful lyrics than that one particular track- and tha twas kinda lacking on Hard Candy, for the most part. So, there is hope. I don't think Solveig and Orbit cater to the U.S. youth. Even Benny Benassi's not really ubiquitous with the mainstream U.S. scene. "Satisfaction" was a dance radio hit (and perhaps clubs, even though it didn't appear on the Club Play chart) and was featured in TV ads of some sort, but that Chris Brown collabo is his first U.S. Hot 100 entry. Don't know much about that Jean Baptiste. As for Nicki- she is a hot thing of the moment, but despite all of her Hot 100 appearances, her Hot 100 success has been so-so. It's not like Rihanna or Katy Perry are rumored collaborators.

^ No way around it. The Nicki Minaj collabo reeks of desperation. Just sayin'.

I can see the point, but Justin Timberlake, to me, reeked of it more, no? And this would be a U.S-dictated move (as with JT), where the ageism runs rampant at radio.
We've seen instances where veteran/younger-hot-act collabos don't set the pop airplay chart on fire. So we'll just have to wait and see how this turns out, especially with Madge being 53 and all. :)

Madonnarama:
Back in September, Live Nation and Universal Music announced their collaboration and soon the rumours about Universal Music releasing Madonna’s 2012 album started.
Now it’s official, Madonna’s upcoming album will be released in France by Polydor Records, a record label owned by Universal Music Group. Polydor is also the label for other artists such as Lady Gaga and Janet Jackson.
Polydor France teased its followers on Twitter with the following tweet :
A huge international artist will be releasing it’s upcoming album with Universal – Polydor in France. More info soon! Any ideas?
Afterwards they confirmed who it was by posting a YouTube link to Madonna’s song “Frozen”.

I've been reading rumors that Nicki and M.I.A. are colab at the Super Bowl with her new single but are not featured on the album. Anything to that?

Yes, it's true. Madonna is solo on the album version of GMAYL. The Superbowl will be a remix, so there will be multiple versions to buy. I think it's a great idea.

If a Super Bowl performance of all things doesn't take this to #1 I'll be shocked. I fully expect this song to be a Hot 100 #1, even if it plummets the next week and makes no long term impact.

Has the Super Bowl ever acted as an outlet for an act to promote a fresh track before? I know that Michael Jackson's "Heal the World" rebounded and reached top 40 after that performance, but that was not a lead single. If not, we really don't have anything to go by to compare.
I fully don't expect anything and will watch as time gets near to see how it plays out. ;)

Didn't "Black & Yellow" get to #1 this year after the Superbowl? It's definitely a different situation though.

Was that performed on the halftime show? Or on the pregame show? Black Eyed Peas was the halftime act last year. Wiz's single had been out for a few months, too.
If that "Give Me All Your Love to Me" is the one that will be the first single, hopefully it doesn't leak before then.

no, GMAYL needs to leak a bit before the actual Superbowl performance. I think people need to know what's going to be played. But it would be disatrous if it leaked right now and forced her new company to release on iTunes, or just lose all those sales. Hopefully we get the W.E. ballad sometime soon to tide us over until the new year.
But really tho, regardless of a leak or not, GMAYL is going to skyrocket up iTunes after her performance. If the BEP's disaster made it to #1 immediately after, so can she.

Oh, I agree that it shouldn't debut at the Super Bowl. But, yes, leaking now or even next month would kind put a dent in the marketing.
Hopefully that W.E. ballad pans out and hits sometime this month.

Madonna releasing new album on InterscopeWhen Madonna recored her cover of "Santa Baby" for the 1987 charity album "A Very Special Christmas" in 1987, her version of the popular hit was produced by Jimmy Iovine. Today, Iovine is chairman of Interscope-Geffen-A&M, a Los Angeles based umbrella label owned by Universal Music Group. And guess what's the label for which Madonna has signed an exclusive deal - to be officially announced very soon - for her 2012 album? Interscope, of course. Nice re-encounter, isn't it? www.Madonnatribe.comI love Madonna's version the best!

I'm so happy she's with UMG now. Even HDD has commented on WB's piss poor marketing and promotion every time one of their big acts drops an album.

Hopefully Interscope will throw some money into promoting and whatnot. I hope they do right by Madonna given all the other major acts they have right now.

M's version of "Santa Baby" was based on Earth Kitt's more uptempo version. It's cute- some find the Betty Boop approach annoying, but I don't mind it. I think it works well for this kind of track.
M entering the fragrance world- better late than never? Well, that's debatable, I guess. :)

Earth recorded a more uptempo version a decade her initial slow one. I do like M's more playful approach, though- like, when she says, "I don't mean a PHONE!"

Oh, I know that, floridagrl- just saying that Eartha did record a more uptempo version (which I posted above), that M based her version more on. Of course she added her quirky Madonnaisms to it. ;)

^Didn't see your post above mine, HG. You must have posted that version while I was constructing my post. Still, I'll take La Ciccone's version any day! P.S. I loved Earth Kitt as Catwomen! She had a body from hell when she was young!! Of course Julie Newmar was gorgeous too!

Madonna actually gets very good recurrent play over the holidays with Santa Baby. I'm always hearing it, even on mainstream radio.

Yeah, during pop radio's heaviest play of holiday music (week of Christmas), it's made the top 10 on the Golds chart. AC also gives it decent play (more than pop radio, as it gives holiday music loads more play overall), albeit not comparable to the biggies. Its annual audience often reaches around 15m-20m or so at its peak.
I have info from 2006 readily available. For week of December 19-25 of that year, it ranked No. 5 on Top 40's Golds chart (464 spins/3.583m audience); No. 56 on AC's Golds chart (1,133 spins/11.943m audience), No. 20 on Hot AC's Golds chart (592 spins/4.021m audience) and No. 99 on Rhythmic's Golds chart (61 spins/0.340m audience).
As Billboard reported, M's version of SB was No. 52 on the 100 Hot Holiday Songs for the 2009 season.

Just a little trivia to share: On "A Very Special Christmas, Vol. 1, 1987, Madonna's Santa Baby is the most downloaded track on iTunes . This album is a charity album to support the Special Olympics. Of the over 200 versions of Santa Baby available on iTunes, Madonna's Santa Baby is the 2nd most downloaded track behind Michael Buble's.
