Where does that trivia come from, fg? Eartha Kitt's usually ranks higher than Madge's, though, on the overall digital chart, so perhaps it gets sales from other outlets.

^iTunes. Type in Santa Baby in the search store block! Isn't popularity based on downloads?

Every other song ever written has better lyrics than "American Life". Got a lawyer and a manager, an agent and a chef, three nannies, an assistant and a driver and a jet, a trainer and a butler and a bodyguard or five, a gardener and a stylist, and still not satisfied?

I meant the actual text, fldgrl- sounded like it was lifted from a source. :) I imagine Kitt's "Santa Baby" will perform better on Digital Songs, as it usually does (it's logged 15 weeks on the chart, compared to M's three weeks thus far).

LoL! I might be the only Madonna fan who doesn't hate "American Life" or its lyrics. My least favorite song on that album was "I'm So Stupid." I agree with what someone already said in this thread in that the album had the potential to be really good but it was limited by the use of only one producer. But still, it had its moments. "Nobody Knows Me" and "Mother and Father" were good songs as was "Nothing Fails," even though it sounds like an inferior knockoff of "Like a Prayer."

If a Super Bowl performance of all things doesn't take this to #1 I'll be shocked. I fully expect this song to be a Hot 100 #1, even if it plummets the next week and makes no long term impact. I guess it would all depend on how much people liked the new song. Even if I don't end up liking it, I'm still looking forward to the performance if it does indeed happen.

Nothing Really Matters from ROL is my favorite. I know it only reached 100 and is not a favorite from many. The video was eh but the song always moves me in body and soul lol to this day. The title track and "Nothing Really Matters" are my favorites on the album as well. I like ROL, but there are a handful of Madonna albums I like better. Her best album for me will always be "Like a Prayer." Even the "worst" songs on that album, "Love Song" and "Dear Jessie" are pretty good. It was simply Madonna at her best IMO.

M needs to get that 13th #1 on the Hot 100. Rihanna is catching up fast. Given the fact that Rihanna is only nearly seven years into her career, she probably will surpass Madonna in No 1s. She may even surpass Mariah. But it's no big deal IMO. Records get broken all the time.

Coty Prestige announced today that it signed an agreement with MG Icon - the joint venture between Madonna, Guy Oseary, and Iconix Brand Group, Inc. - to launch the icon's first fragrance. The fragrance, Truth or Dare by Madonna, will debut exclusively at Macy's in April 2012 in the United States, with global distribution beginning in May. The agreement with Coty marks the first time Madonna, the top selling female recording artist of all time, with more than 300 million records sold worldwide, will launch a fragrance. Madonna stated to Women's Wear Daily, "I have always been obsessed by fragrance and for years wanted to create something personal that was an expression of me but that other people could relate to as well. Something honest, and yet daring, hence the name Truth or Dare." "Madonna is the marquis addition to Coty's unrivaled brand portfolio and further establishes us as cutting edge leaders in the global beauty industry," Bernd Beetz, CEO, Coty Inc said. "We are thrilled to embark on this new venture with Madonna, a global icon with unprecedented star power and cultural relevance." Madonna will be featured in a global print, television, and online marketing campaign produced in collaboration with Fabien Baron of Baron & Baron who she has worked with on many projects including "Sex," her renowned 1992 pictorial essay on sexuality. "Madonna is an artistic phenomenon whose vision has helped define the cultural zeitgeist for nearly three decades. Her fans around the world have an unparalleled devotion and will be eager to experience a unique, and more personal, materialization of her talent," Michele Scannavini, President, Coty Prestige said. Truth or Dare by Madonna will be a signature floral fragrance. Its unique blend of narcotic florals, balanced with addictive woods and vanilla, creates a scent that is timeless, yet contemporary, simultaneously dark and light. The bottle plays up the Truth or Dare duality - a classic and sophisticated shape, with modern and edgy detailing. The scent will be available in a 75ml EDP ($68 / euro 62), 50ml EDP ($55 / euro 46), 30ml EDP ($39 / euro 35), Body Lotion ($28 / euro 22), and Shower Gel ($24 / euro 21). "Madonna is a globally recognized music and style pioneer. The debut of her first fragrance is a dynamic platform to launch her lifestyle brand, Truth or Dare by Madonna," commented Neil Cole, CEO, Iconix Brand Group. "Coty is a respected leader in the prestige fragrance industry. Their expertise coupled with Madonna's iconic status is a powerful partnership." From a press release by Coty Inc. -Madonnatribe I love the bottle. It looks like a Catholic Holy Water flask.

The Immaculate Collection has been $7.99 at iTunes this week- it's currently ranked No. 67 on the overall albums chart. Perhaps it will re-enter the catalog 200.

Why do they only put TIC on sale? Her other albums could benefit from a sale too. Celebration anyone?

Celebration probably won't rechart without a significant mark down in price at major outlets. The single disc doesn't cut it, so even if that's marked down, I wouldn't expect a big surge. Of course, around the time of the album release, we may see markdowns and such. BTW- "Like a Prayer" ranks No., 27 on One Thirty BPM's list of the top 100 80s tracks. Here's the link and text: onethirtybpm.com/features/the-top-100-tracks-of-the-1980s/8/27. Madonna, "Like a Prayer"Over twenty years later, Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” remains one of the more simultaneously honest, provocative, and satisfying pieces of music that the artist ever recorded. Despite the fact that its video is among the most ire-raising ever, “Like a Prayer” endures because it transcends its own seeming desire to antagonize. Famously constructed in the gospel model, but unflinchingly a pop song fueled by sexual exploration, “Like a Prayer” was gift wrapped for controversy almost by default given its delivery model. But, besides that, the song is memorable as a leap forward for Madonna’s music; if not just for the thematic complexity it puts forward, but for the impressive composition that went into the construction of “Like a Prayer.” A slow-building track that effortlessly blends genre signifiers with subversive imagery, the song earns its repeated crescendos, crashing and kicking against one of the better hooks Madonna would ever sing. - Daniel Rivera

I agree floridagrl, when I first saw the pic of the fragrance bottle, the Catholic church came to mind. It reminded me of the robe that a priest or pope would wear. I wonder if this is intentional or not or just a big coincidence?
There is s much going on right now with her. Looks like an active era. :)

^ Hi jump. Oh yeah, it was very intentional. Look at all the religious jewelry she wore during the 80's....Then there's Like A Prayer, The Immaculate Collection, etc. I love it, I think it is gorgeous and so her. It's white and pure (Like a virgin). .....I'm not reeeeellligous......but it makes me wanna pray....... Yes, it's an active time for her and us fans. I am too excited! I hope she smashes like she never smashed before!!

Buzz from Universal is that she has a masterful dance pop album on her hands. They are going to promote like nobody's business. I'm expecting two # 1 singles off this album. It's very modern and VERY dance from what my guy at UMG said- but done only as Madonna can do.

Madonna's last successful 3rd single from an album was Cherish in 1989.
Discuss.

Always curious to hear what's next from her. A Superbowl performance is huge--if the song isn't a total mess, it should have no problem getting to #1.
