The saying that things get better with time and age couldn’t be more true when it comes to the new music Madonna has been cranking out. Her latest release, ‘Masterpiece,’ is simply just that… a masterpiece of musical art.
The tune is the first release from her forthcoming album, set for release in 2012, but the overall vibe of the song has a retro feel that will take fans back to the singer’s ‘American Life’ days. The simplicity of the production allows the listener to focus on the beautifully-penned lyrics and her smooth voice that never fails to impress.
“If you were the Mona Lisa / You’d be hanging in the Louvre / Everyone would come to see you / You’d be impossible to move / It seems to me / It’s what you are / A raring prize / This work of art / You stay behind / A velvet rope,” she sings in the opening verse of the song.
Madonna belts out about the pain of being in love with someone who could be compared to a great “masterpiece” of art. “And I’m right by your side / Even deep in the night / I stand in front of the masterpiece / And I can’t tell you why / It hurts so much / To be in love with a masterpiece / ‘Cause after all, nothing’s indestructible,” she continues in the chorus.
Madonna’s new single is nothing short of another “masterpiece” in her ongoing career of successful hits and a good insight of what is still to come from this phenomenal singer.

I wish they'd put Masterpiece on iTunes or release the soundtrack already. I want it in HQ!

Holidayguy made a thread for this in the General Discussion area, but I thought it was worth reposting here. Super Bowl XLVI Halftime show will feature MadonnaNational Football LeaguePublished: Dec. 4, 2011 at 10:16 p.m. Updated: Dec. 4, 2011 at 10:31 p.m. Madonna, a multi Grammy Award-winning Universal Records recording artist, will perform in the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show on NBC on Sunday, Feb. 5, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the NFL and NBC announced at halftime of Sunday night's game between the New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions. Madonna's performance will be imagined by Cirque Du Soleil and Jamie King. The Bridgestone Super Bowl halftime show is the most-watched musical event of the year. More than 162 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year's show. The Super Bowl and halftime show will be broadcast worldwide. Madonna joins an esteemed list of recent halftime acts that includes The Black Eyed Peas, The Who, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and U2. A world class entertainer, singer, songwriter, producer, director, and video visionary, Madonna has sold more than 300 million records in the course of her three-decade career as The Material Girl. She is a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Her last tour was the most successful tour by a solo artist in history. Madonna is currently in the recording studio working on a new album scheduled to be released next year. Her new film W.E., which she directed, wrote and produced, is opening in a limited one-week release Dec. 9 in Los Angeles and will open nationally on Feb. 3, two days prior to Super Bowl XLVI.Madonna has partnered with a creative team from Cirque du Soleil, Jamie King, and multimedia artists from Moment Factory, to create a signature performance for the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show. This year marks the fifth time Bridgestone Americas has sponsored the Super Bowl halftime show. The tire company's new brand campaign, fittingly titled "Time to Perform," will debut during the game. The Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show is an NFL Network production and will be executive produced by Ricky Kirshner and directed by Hamish Hamilton. www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d82....feature-madonnaThe commercial:

They should release the final version of the track to iTunes this week or maybe even next. It's obviously in the can, so why not?

Anyone know the air date for the Oscars in 2012? If she is on Amercian TV performing twice within a few weeks of each other, while a new album has dropped, I will just die!

The Oscars reportedly are set for February 26. I still have doubts that she will earn a Song nomination- but it would be a pleasant surprise if it happened. :)

She's getting a nomination...trust!
I would love for the album to drop on 1/31/11.

Wouldn't 2/7 be the most to-the-moment? That would be a couple days after the SB performance.
I suspect, though, it will drop sometime in March, unless they really want to capitalize and push it up.

No, I would think 1/31/11, would be perfect. Because if people like what they see, they act instantly, all they have to do now is walk over to Itunes and click purchase. You would have mega fans already buying the first few days and then a nice bump on Sunday night that would spill over into the second tracking week. I know it's different for some demographics, but you get the picture.

That has sense. But, at just a month and a half away, that probably will not occur. :)

Cool pics. Thank you! I hope though that the hairdo GOES for her video and the look of the new album. She needs something new, fresh, more modern in my opinion.

Patti Smith gave Madonna’s film W.E. (Wallis and Edward) a standing ovation at the Cinema Society and Piaget’s screening for 450 guests at the Museum of Modern Art last night. Director/cowriter Madonna was gracious in her opening remarks: “Harvey Weinstein and I have been working together since Truth or Dare. I think it says we are going toward embracing the idea of unconditional love.” The fashion world—represented by Francisco Costa, Olivier Theyskens, Rachel Roy, Valentino Garavani, and Giancarlo Giammetti (who were seated in the row in front of Madonna)—came out to see what I felt was a beautiful achievement of two love stories intertwined. Weinstein, whose studio is releasing the film on February 5 (the week of the Super Bowl, where Madonna is scheduled to perform at halftime) was equally generous in his praise of what he called “a Renaissance woman.” Madonna was moved by the screening’s museum locale. “When I was a young girl growing up in Detroit, I used to escape to the Detroit Institute . . . into the Diego Rivera paintings,” she recalled. “I learned about Frida Kahlo, and those paintings gave me the inspiration to believe I could come to New York and create my own revolution with my work."
Sarah Jessica Parker and Lee Daniels were there, as were Stella Schnabel, just back from Paris in an Azzedine Alaïa redingote over jeans, and Parker Posey and Chloë Sevigny, both in red silk. Donna Karan congratulated Andrea Riseborough, wearing a short white-and-black lace Oscar de la Renta dress, on her amazing performance as Wallis Simpson. “I hope you enjoyed doing the film as much as we enjoyed watching it,” said Karan.
“It was seven months of my life, and I am happy with the journey,” replied Riseborough, who was almost in tears at the audience’s response to W.E. “Madonna had seen me play Margaret Thatcher for the BBC. I had to read once for her, in her living room. When I received the script, I thought it was one of those special screenplays.” “She transcended the character,” said Posey. Pat McGrath loved Madonna’s lighting, calling the film “gorgeous. It was gorgeous.” “She had such beautiful details,” Valentino told me later at the standing-room-only after-party at the Crown restaurant. Valentino would know, as he and his entourage had viewed the film four times, first at his French chateau, where Madonna was a guest this summer, and later at the Venice and Toronto film festivals with her.

From what I can hear, Masterpiece sounds great. The Mona Lisa line is a little bit cringey, but that's really the only low point for me.
Things seem to be coming together really nicely for a great album campaign! I really hope she takes advantage of the Superbowl and shows everyone that has written her off what still she has to offer. And as much as I don't want to wait for the first single, they should release it the week of or before the show. I think a #1 is pretty much guaranteed as long as the performance/song isn't a train wreck.

Aren't "scores" and "soundtracks" two different things?

I suppose this will be a double cd with 26 tracks. No? It sounds amazing. Maybe it's not the complete soundtrack and masterpiece will be included.

This is going to be a huge era for her. I think it is genius how they are intertwining the movie and album off of each other. Don't want to make any artistic comparisons but Celine Dion did the same thing with her album and soundtrack and look what happened. $$$$$. ;)

Well...has Guy O said anything about what the plans for Masterpiece are?...because the smart thing to do would be to release it as a single...say in a few weeks>>and yes...this is a radio friendly song..but its sales would matter most...plus it would help promote the movie and any chance of her geting an oscar nom for the song..ths is just to powerful a song to let just sit around...and do nothing.....sales of this song would by it self get her a top 10 if not more...then use the superbowl to perform Masterpiece and GMAYL ...and use the following tuesday after the superbowl to release GMAYL to itunes which would def get her another top 10 if not a #1.....Lets do this right this time!...she could def have 2 top 10 singles even before the album drops.
