The Hollywood Foreign Press Association threw Madge a bone and nominated "Masterpiece" for Best Original Song in the Golden Globes. :) Also, W.E. received a nod for Best Score.
Based on reviews, it's good the HFPA didn't nominate W.E. in in one of the picture categories- remember last year's Burlesque and The Tourist debacle.

Madonna and Live Nation Entertainment Confirm Three Album Licensing Deal With Interscope RecordsSANTA MONICA, Calif. , Dec. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Madonna will have a new album out in late March, it was officially confirmed today by Interscope Records. In one component of a very broad plan developed by long time manager Guy Oseary and Live Nation Entertainment, the Material Girl has signed a three album deal with Interscope Records. The new album, her first in five years, has been completed. "Gimme All Your Luvin", the first single from the album will be released the last week in January prior to her upcoming Bridgestone Halftime Superbowl appearance on February 5th. "We look forward to a great partnership," commented Live Nation Entertainment's Chairman of Global Music & CEO, Global Touring Arthur Fogel. Oseary was equally enthusiastic: "We couldn't be happier to work with Jimmy Iovine , Lucian Grainge (Chairman & CEO, Universal Music Group) and the entire Interscope team. We anticipate a very bright future at our new home." Added Jimmy Iovine, Chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M. "Very rarely does an opportunity like this come around. We would like to thank Madonna, Guy and Live Nation for their belief in us." In other Madonna news, her upcoming film, "W.E." which she directed and co-wrote is scheduled for a wide release on February 3rd. Over the course of her extraordinary three decade career, Madonna has sold over 300 million albums and holds the record for the most successful tour by a solo artist in history. Wow...nice job Madonna...congrads to her!!!...im sure the Oscars will follow suit with Masterpiece....so now we know the song will be getting the attention it deserves...Oscars are in March..i think....that would be perfect timing for her to release this as the 2nd single...and what better way to expose the song...then Billy Crystal introducing the Queen for a 3rd time at the Oscars!!!

Let's not get too excited about the Oscars- there have been nominees (and even winners) at the Globes that didn't make the Oscar cut. Just trying to keep things in perspective and help ya avoid any disappointment. :)

OK- I listened to "Masterpiece." I expected more of a slower tempo, for some reason.
It's a nice track. Pretty vocals, no doubt- I like the higher notes.
I rate it a B+.

Great article! www.deadline.com/2011/12/madonna-comeback-in-music-tv-and-film-3-album-deal-with-interscope-worth-40m-first-album-in-5-years-coming-early-march-timed-to-w-e-film-superbowl-halftime/Madonna Comeback In Music, TV, And Film: 3-Album Deal With Interscope Worth $40M; First Album In 5 Years Coming Early March; Single Timed To โW.E.โ Film And Superbowl By NIKKI FINKE | Thursday December 15, 2011 @ 12:49am PST EXCLUSIVE DETAILS: Hollywood knows that, when it comes to Madonna, never count her down and out. Because few performers are as shrewd about their careers as this 53-year-old multi-hyphenate singer, actress, producer, and now film writer and director who has stayed buzz-worthy for three decades. Iโve learned that Interscope Records is releasing her new CD in late March โ her first album in 5 years. And โGimme All Your Luvinโ, the first single, is coming out the last week in January just prior to her upcoming Super Bowl XLVI halftime appearance on February 5th. Iโve learned thatโs the same week her upcoming Weinstein Company film, W.E., is now scheduled for a wide release on February 3rd. So it becomes clear why Harvey Weinstein delayed Madonnaโs movie from December 9th in NY and LA: to take advantage of the early 2012 promotional hype which will surround her and provide him with free marketing. Thatโs especially useful after reviews of the film she directed and coโwrote about American-born Walllis Simpsonโs historic affair with Britainโs King Edward VIII have been lukewarm at best and lousy at worst in the U.S. and UK. Weinstein cancelled its Oscar push. I can also reveal that the 3-album licensing deal which Madonna and Live Nation Entertainment just inked with Interscope Records is valued by my sources at $40M. Itโs one component of a broad career comeback developed by Madonna, her long-time manager Guy Oseary, and Live Nation Entertainment executive chairman Irving Azoff. Madonna left Warner Bros records, her label home of 25 years, after the release of her album โHard Candyโ which debuted at No. 1 in 27 countries including the US, UK, Canada, France and Australia. Her subsequent Live Nation-produced โSticky & Sweetโ tour grossed $408 million worldwide, the highest ever for a female artist. Back then, Madonna signed a 10-year multi-rights and multi-faceted deal with Live Nation said to be worth as much as $100M and included new studio albums, touring, merchandising, fan club/website, DVDs, as well as music-related television and film projects and associated sponsorship agreements. This new Interscope deal is an outgrowth of that, and will have Madonna, Oseary, and Live Nation Entertainmentโs Chairman of Global Music/CEO of Global Touring Arthur Fogel working with Interscope Geffen A&M Chairman Jimmy Iovine and Universal Music Group Chairman/CEO Lucian Grainge. Over the course of her extraordinary 3-decade career, Madonna has sold over 300 million albums and holds the record for the most successful tour by a solo artist in history. She is a 9-time Grammy winning singer, songwriter, producer and a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee.

^Her last album was not 5 years ago. HC was out in April 2008 so it'll be 4 years.
The 300 million album figure is too high of course.
The new album will be out in late March.

I think the 300 million mark is more about album sales and single sales...which you put in terms of record sales...i just think some reports are just putting it down as album sales...which of course is wrong...but..saying she has sold 300 million records is more correct, even though i would say the number is more between 275 and 300...i think there is one fact they are trying to make..that Madonna has sold the most albums and records then any female artist in the 1955-2011 rock/pop era... and that..in fact...is a fact.

Especially since we can't really track international sales. So its not a "fact" just a theory or a hypothesis, if you like.

In certain international markets, they do not have accurate tracking systems the way other countries do. In the U.S. you also have the pre-Soundscan era and music buying club sales (which were not factored into Soundscan). There was this Greek singer Nana Mouskouri, and her label claims she has sold between 300 and 400 million albums. Some of her fans claim it is as high as 900 million!

I knew the single would be released a week before the Superbowl. It only makes sense marketing wise. I'm getting excited for this upcoming era!

Madonna's worldwide *records* sales (albums and singles) obviously tops 300 million- that likely is more tha nany other female of the last 30 years- but that's here nor there right now. :)

That "setlist" is songs being considered for the performance- so we shouldn't take it as a setlist, per se. But, the tracks would make sense.
MNation- given the Academy's past in not nominating Madonna-written songs, I don't hold out much hope for an Oscar nod. Would be a pleasant surprise, though. :)

yea, thought the same thing, all those madonna tracks are hits...but more important..there safe and fun, even tho im tired of hearing Music and Vogue...im sure madonna's camp didnt want to push any wrong buttons with NBC...i know she most likely wanted to sing Like a Prayer...but then the Catholic League would having been all over NBC ..and even NBC might have been on the edge of there seats...so sometimes safe is better...who knows if this is really the true selist, but i do like the idea of Holiday closing it out...what better way.

perfect setlist and closer. But they change "Gimme All Your Luvin" back to "Give Me All Your Love." It looks better on paper.
