alltime soundscan best sellers
Garth Brooks still holds history's top spot with 68.5 million, followed by The Beatles with 62.1 million. With 53.1 million, Mariah Carey is fourth, then Metallica (52.7 million), Celine Dion (51.2 million) and George Strait (42.4 million).
Mariah Carey must be THIRD not FOURTH or who has surpassed her?
Brooks 68.5 Beatles 62.1 Carey 53.1 Metallica 52.7 Dion 51.2 Strait 42.4

While Eminem did get for album, Taylor got for overall album, which is just as important if not more. ??? What are you blabbing about? Can anybody understand what the above is getting at? haha. I wasnt going to say much more but i just have to laugh at this rationalization by you. haha, like you determine which is more important. Recovery sold more than Speak Now. So i don't know what you are blabbing about. Hm... let's see, While Eminem did sell more with Recovery than Speak Now, Swift sold more albums than Eminem did, and I'm not trying to determine which is more important, just saying it is as important. bye dear, hope you got it, if not maybe I can draw it for you? let's put it this way: Swift is the artist of the year, while Eminem had the album of the year, which title do you prefer?

Does anyone have any idea how much digital tracks MJ sold before he died? I'm wondering how much was added to his totals after he died. It is actually impressive he is over 22 million since he hasn't had any real hits since the digital era started. He sold 12,355,000 in 2009, which brought his total to 19,225,000. He had probably sold about 8 million at the time of his death.

I am surprised Taylor is such a strong digital seller. So people who try to downgrade her success, saying her sales are due to the lack of illegal downloads, are clearly wrong. I saw her higher in Ileaks list than "MBDTW" and "Recovery" which further proves my point.

Lack of illegal downloads? EVERY act's music is out there at illegal download outlets- at least I would think.

I say Em did more impressive numbers considering TES( a 2002 release) is still pushing 7k a week.... However, both are selling good and that makes me happy.

Not to beat the ol' horse... :)
SuBo's rank does not change with Christian-outlet sales in the mix, but it does increase her tally by some 91,000 (to 1.943 million). Jackie Evancho's album would not rank top 10 with her Christian-outlet sales, but those sales would boost her rank by one position on the Physical-only top 10.

www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/retail/vinyl-posts-14-sales-gain-in-2010-1004137891.storyVinyl Posts 14% Sales Gain in 2010The year-end SoundScan numbers, released today, have a lot of minus signs. But one big exception is vinyl sales: While the numbers aren't massive, they still rose 14% from 2009 to 2010, according to the Nielsen Company and Billboard's 2010 Music Industry Report. In 2009, 2.5 million vinyl albums were sold; in 2010, that number rose to 2.8 million and cracked the Nielsen SoundScan sales record. The 10 top-selling vinyl artists and artists in 2010 were split 60/40 between indie acts and heritage acts. The top three selling vinyl albums were the Beatles' "Abbey Road" (35,000 units sold), the Arcade Fire's "Suburbs" (18,800 units), and Black Keys "Brothers" (18,400 units). The top three selling vinyl artists were the Beatles (36,700 units), Black Keys (36,000 units), and Radiohead (30,500 units). Other top sellers included Vampire Weekend, Beach House, Pavement, and the National. Heritage artists that saw top sales included Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, and Metallica. While an uptick in sales is welcome news in any corner of the music industry, the raw numbers here are fairly small -- overall album sales in 2010 came in at 443.4 million units. And as the top selling albums indicate, the vinyl audience is fairly self-selecting -- as the top-selling vinyl artists show, hipsters and boomers dominate the niche market. In fact, vinyl sales account for only 4% of total sales for both Arcade Fire and Black Keys.

Why does that report say that overall album sales came in at 443 million?
Regarding the top-selling acts of the SoundScan era, this is, roughly (as we don't yet have as precise figures as we did for last year), how much they have gained in the past year:
Garth Brooks: 137,000 Beatles: 1.3 million Mariah Carey: 512,000 Metallica: 540,000 Celine Dion:167,000 George Strait: 557,000

443 million is with track equivalent albums, I suppose.
A fantasy number created to make album sales look less bad.

Eminem x Taylor:
Eminem is the biggest selling digital artist in 2010 with more than 15.5 million track sales during the year. This marks the biggest one year digital download track total by an artist for one year.
In 2009, Lady Gaga had more than 15.2 million and in 2008, Rihanna was the biggest selling digital artist with 9.9 million track sales.
Eminem’s Recovery finishes the year as the biggest selling album with more than 3.4 million in sales.
Note that Eminem is the first artist to have the best selling album of the year twice since the inception of Nielsen SoundScan. (Eminem Show in 2002 with 7.6 million sales).
Recovery also finishes the year as the biggest digital album of the year with 852,000 sales. The biggest one year total for a digital album and is the 2nd most downloaded album of all time; just 30,000 downloads behind Lady Gaga’s Fame.
Due to the success of Recovery, Eminem jumps 3 positions to the 7th best selling artist in the history of Nielsen SoundScan.
Eminem is the only Rap artist in the top 20 best-selling artists in the Nielsen SoundScan era.
With nearly 16 million track downloads in 2010, Eminem jumps up five positions to #4 on the most downloaded artists of all time.
For the second time in three years, Taylor Swift is the biggest selling artist for 2010 with more than 4.4 million album sales for the year. If it wasn’t for the passing of Michael Jackson in 2009, Taylor Swift would have been the best selling artist for three consecutive years; she came in second behind Michael in 2009 with 4.6 million album sales and was the best selling artist in 2008.
Note that Taylor Swift has sold more than 4 million album sales for three consecutive years; the only artist to sell 4+ million albums each of the last three years.
Speak Now in the best selling Internet album in 2010 with 185,000 sales.
Taylor Swift ends the year as the most played artist over the airways in 2010 with more than 1.1 million spins; edging out another country act, Lady Antebellum, by 1,000 spins.

They covered about 1/6th of the gap in 2010. It could take as much as 10 years, but I think they'll come out on top, provided that Garth doesn't come out of retirement. (Which I still hope he does ).

Is George Strait still putting out albums? Yes, and he's still topping the Country Songs Chart like crazy. His last album, 2009's Twang, sold over 600,000.
