Love this story Stardom Never Spoiled the Whitney Houston I Knew Nikki Haskell www.huffingtonpost.com/nikki-haskell/whitney-houston-memories_b_1272719.html"Well, Nikki, we're still here." Those were the words Whitney Houston said to me as we stood backstage at The X Factor in London, where she was set to make another promotional performance on her "comeback" tour. I looked at her. "Honey," I said, "we're in the permanent collection." The collection in question belongs to Clive Davis, who was also with us that day. Clive, my friend of 40 years, is the musical genius who discovered everyone from Janis Joplin to Jennifer Hudson -- to Whitney Houston. Clive inspires his artists and friends to excellence, and accepts nothing less from them. So it's no small feat to stay in that collection. Whitney knew that all too well. I was introduced to Whitney and her mother, Cissy, in the late 1970s by their cousin Dionne Warwick. Whitney was just a teenager at the time, and no matter what people may say, I can tell you that the superstar who died yesterday was no different from the girl I met all those years ago. Whitney was a free spirit. She was kind, authentic, fun and funny. She never took herself too seriously. She always remembered where she came from. I remember the party I threw for her at the Palladium in New York City after her first album, Whitney Houston, went double platinum. (Double platinum albums are those that have sold 2 million copies.) By then, she had the world at her feet, but the first thing she did when she arrived was to seek me out and thank me, very sweetly, for going out of my way to host a party for her. What a delight to discover that Whitney Houston the worldwide sensation was just as considerate and charming as Whitney Houston the well-mannered daughter of John and Cissy Houston from New Jersey. She never changed in that regard. That evening at The X Factor, I was so proud of her. She had gone through so much in the past few years, all of it very publicly -- the divorce, the drugs, the booze -- but through it all, she never lost her pride. She had always been strong, but the person before me that evening was stronger than ever -- having extricated herself from her complicated marriage and seemingly overcome the addiction problems that came with it. That evening, she sang "Million Dollar Bill," and while it may be cliché to say so, she looked like a million dollars. She had on the most beautiful shoes. "Whitney," I said, "those heels are gorgeous -- are they Manolo's"? "No," she replied. "They're Louboutin's." "They don't look like Louboutin's, the heel is black," I told her. "I have the heels painted black," she said. "The red is too showy." Did I mention that she never forgot where she came from?

With the new RIAA rule about adding digital streams to Gold & Platinum records, Whitney got certified again for "I Will Always Love You"

Hilarious 'I will always love youuuuuuuuu': Woman kicked off plane for refusing to stop singing Whitney Houston song- Passenger treated fellow travellers to renditions of the 1990s pop song on a six hour flight from Los Angeles to New York - But her solo performance soon became too much for passengers and crew - Pilot forced to divert flight path to make emergency landing in Kansas City - Fellow passenger filmed woman being escorted off plane - still singing - An American Airlines pilot was forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger refused to stop singing Whitney Houston's hit song I Will Always Love You. The solo performance began shortly into the flight from Los Angeles to New York and her crooning quickly became too much for passengers and staff on the domestic flight last Thursday. The pilot was forced to change course halfway through the six hour flight and make an unscheduled stop at Kansas City so officers could escort the woman from the plane. Airport spokesman Joe McBride told WBTV: 'The woman was being disruptive and was removed from the plane for interfering with the flight crew. 'There was a federal air marshal on the aircraft, who subdued the woman and put her in cuffs and removed her from the plane.' Despite staff telling passengers they could not take photographs while on board the aircraft, one managed to briefly film the woman being escorted down the aircraft's aisle in handcuffs - still singing the 1990s pop song. The woman was interviewed and later released without charge. While the song she chose to entertain her fellow passengers with is best known for Whitney Houston's cover in the film The Bodyguard, it was originally released by country singer-songwriter Dolly Parton in 1974. The original I Will Always Love You received positive comments from critics and reached number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart two times. This made Parton the first artist ever to earn a number one record twice with the same song as a singer, and three times as a writer. But it was not until Houston's cover of I Will Always Love You in The Bodyguard movie that the song became an international hit. The Bodyguard's original soundtrack won the 1994 Grammy Award for Album of the Year and I Will Always Love You became the best-selling single by a female artist in music history. Houston became the first act - solo or group, male or female - to sell more than a million copies of an album within a single week period under Nielsen SoundScan system. The album makes her the top female act in the top 10 list of the best-selling albums of all time, at number four. Houston went on to star in more movies and contribute to their soundtracks but The Bodyguard and I Will Always Love You remained one of the biggest successes of her career. Whitney has always had fans of all ages, young and old, there would be 13 years old posting at Classic Whitney as well as people in their 40s. But obviously her passing and the massive exposure from it generated a whole new generation of fans and interest in her and her music. I'll see young teens on twitter say they're "obsessed" with Whitney and her voice, and being obsessed with I Wanna Dance With Somebody or I Will Always Love You. My 11 year old cousin absolutely loves Call You Tonight and So Emotional, those are her favs at the moment. She had me put those on her ipod, even though before Whitney's passing she got into Whitney after watching The Bodyguard and hearing the soundtrack. :) But yeah, her legacy will always live on. I love the fact that there is people who aren't even born yet who will become a Whitney Houston stan.

:( Tyler Perry to Oprah, on Whitney: 'I Sensed ... A Death Day Coming' Before she passed away tragically in February 2012, Whitney Houston had been a good friend of Tyler Perry. Whitney was open with him about her struggles and addiction, and, as her friend, Tyler wanted to help Whitney in any way he could -- and he certainly tried. But his attempts to help couldn't save the troubled singer. In this clip from Tyler's upcoming appearance on "Oprah's Next Chapter," he opens up about his friendship with Whitney and reveals how he tried to help her through her addiction, beginning with the first moment she spoke candidly with him while the two were dining at a restaurant. "I felt a huge responsibility for her," Tyler says. "From the first day we sat down in that restaurant and had a conversation where she was so open with me, I felt a responsibility to do all I could to help her." Part of this urge stemmed from an ominous feeling Tyler had about Whitney's fate. He says, "I sensed -- like most people who deal with people who have addiction issues -- ...that there [was] a death day coming." Behind the scenes, Tyler would send a plane and send Whitney to rehab, in addition to offering Whitney's family emotional support through the tumultuous times. " standing with them whenever they need it," Tyler says.
As for his friend Whitney, Tyler kept communicating with her, but reveals that he could tell when her addiction was taking over. "I would talk to [Whitney] sometimes and she would just be out of it, but trying to be together," he says sadly.
Tyler Perry appears on a new episode of "Oprah's Next Chapter" this Sunday, May 26, at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.

Welp.. Did Bobbi Kristina Brown just get evicted from her Alpharetta, Ga., home? Despite reports that Whitney Houston's daughter and her boyfriend Nick Gordon were recently kicked out of their apartment building due to noise complaints, E! News has learned the eviction rumors are false. A rep for Bobbi Kristina tells us she was not evicted from her home, she simply opted to move because of the complaints. "Bobbi felt that the neighbors were always in her business and looking to get some sort of media attention," a source also tells E! News of the situation. "Krissy lives on the 2nd floor and as with anyone who lives in a first floor apartment you should expect to hear some noise above you. But apparently these people have been nuts for a long time. So she decided to move out. She was not evicted." The 20-year-old's rep also refuted reports that Bobbi Kristina left her former neighbors a nasty note for getting her kicked out. The note was in fact written by friends of Bobbi Kristina, the rep claims. According to a police report filed on the incident, the note that was left for one neighbor read, "Thanks. You are s--t at the bottom of our shoe. Thank you for making a hard year harder. You are a miserable couple, and always will be. You were honored to have us living above you and you couldn't stand such a young beautiful couple being far more successful than you ever will be. I pray your misery doesn't rub off on your innocent little baby." There is no investigation going on currently. The police report was just for documentation purposes.

Manish from Classic Whitney on the alleged annivery albums: "Stalled
The two anniversary albums aren't being developed it would seem. There is another idea being considered - which done right would be good - but it's anyone's guess if it'll happen this year. Feels like Sony Legacy need to get themselves organised (and interested) in Whitney Houston. manish."bulls**t Let me go and watch this amazing performance to get rid of these bad feelings towards wack ass Sony Love this lady so much.. **sigh**

I am completely bummed out now. I wanted that anniversary edition of 'Whitney' so bad! My hope was that they would include the UK single remix of 'So Emotional'...it's hard to get your hands on a decent copy of that. I still have my 12" from back in the day!

My diva :( Late singer Whitney Houston's grave now has its own headstone in Westfield, N.J. The monument, shaped like an abbreviated teardrop, is overlaid with a heart-shaped engraving of the singer's head and features her name, dates of birth and death in a flowing script. Underneath in capital letters is etched "The Voice," and still below that, the title phrase from her No. 1 hit song "I will always love you." She is buried next to her father in Fairview Cemetery, approximately 20 miles west of New York, according to the Associated Press.

A year and a half later and I still can't believe this happened to her. I really miss her, I miss the excitement of even just gossip about her upcoming projects, I miss seeing new pictures and video footage of her, I miss watching music award shows and anticipating her walking out as a surprise guest, I miss her presence in this world, I miss Whitney Houston.

Cissy Pens Open Letter To Bobbi Kristina
Dear Krissi
I love you. My heart is full. I don’t know where to begin.
You may think I don’t understand you and what you’re feeling but remember, Baby, I lost my mom when I was just a child. So, I do know some of the sadness and loneliness of your life since your mom passed away.
Although I know her spirit is with you always, I cry with you and for you. I grieve with you and for you … for all of the days and nights you need to tell her something or ask her advice or just hear her voice … and she’s not there. For all of the times when you need to put your head in her lap or feel her arms around you and she’s not there … For the good and happy times you want to share with her; for the fun and laughter you enjoyed together, but she’s not there … for every day and every night you just miss her … I know.
She was your mom and she was my child and Krissi, I loved her too, more than you might imagine. I know you were upset that I wrote my book, “Remembering Whitney”, but I hope one day you’ll read it and understand that I just wanted to let the world see some of My Nippy—the sweet, friendly, loving little girl with the extraordinary beauty and boundless talent, who grew into the superstar and musical icon the world saw. I want people to know—fans and critics and ordinary people alike—Nippy was a whole person, and like all of us, she was good and bad AND she was my joy!
Krissi, all I want for you is your good health and your happiness. I want you to have a good life that you can be proud of. Do I want you to get married in the near future? No, I don’t. I think you’re too young and I wish you’d wait. But that’s because I’m Grandma. I’m supposed to worry about you. I’m supposed to wonder If Nick or ANY man is good enough for you, My Baby’s Baby. I’m not angry with Nick and I don’t think, nor did I ever say anything hurtful about him to anyone. I have NEVER publicly commented on your personal life and I don’t intend to. So in the future when you read or hear that Cissy Houston said this or Cissy Houston said that, be confident in the knowledge that it isn’t true.
I try to believe that when your mother passed away the world decided that you belong to them as she did. I’m trying very hard to trust that people who make comments or offer their opinions about you are sincere in their desire for you to be happy. I can only hope they come to realize the best they can offer you is their prayers.
Krissi, as many years as I’ve lived and as many experiences as I’ve had I know I don’t have all of the answers. I do know this, Baby Girl: God’s got you and so do I.
With all my love,
Grandma

Nippy holds at No. 9 on Billboard's top 100 Hot 100 acts list (which goes through the 7/27/13 chart). Since the 2008 list, she racked up 15 weeks on the Hot 100 (all solo appearances).
