Yup, Mello, it shouldn't be.
Rod Stewart has done a bunch of cover albums like all those American songbook albums. Many of those songs were old songs from the 1930's and 1940's. He got radio play at AC radio and charted many of those old covers. Had Cher recorded those albums, Cher would have done great with her album sales but I'd bet AC radio would not have played the songs. Even when Cher was younger she'd have to fight for radio play. All I'm saying is AC radio automatically adds older male artists like Rod. If Rod had recorded SOS, the song WOULD have adds. I'm not saying I expected SOS to be a big hit but I did expect it to get SOME adds, not ZERO.
I guess nobody cares so why should I? I just think it is very unfair.

I disagree. I wish I was wrong but even new stuff by Cher would be ignored. Rod Stewart did MANY MANY MANY cover albums over the past 20 years and got adds all the time. A song is a song. Cher has had trouble getting AC ads even when she were a bit younger. Most of the time, the only way Cher got adds was to work her butt off for the song. She'd perform the song all over the place like she did with I Hope You Find It. With Paul McCartney and Rod Stewart and Elton John it does not matter what they record (cover or not). They automatically just get adds. It is just that as an older female artist, it is nearly impossible even on the so-called ADULT Contemporary chart. My point was that Rod Stewart and Paul McCartney (while both currently having AC hits) have not even been major AC staples (with their new material) since the 90’s. Rod’s covers albums in the 00’s were big sellers but still didn’t spawn many hits (most of his big AC hits were Christmas songs during the Christmas season, which is not comparable since Cher hasn’t put out a Christmas album.. she could probably easily have a Christmas hit). You also need to keep in mind that despite the success of the Mama Mia movies, ABBA were never radio staples in the US. Cher doing ABBA covers just doesn’t appeal to AC radio in the way that Paul or Rod doing a light-rock song does.. both of their recent hits sound like songs that would be Hot AC hits for a younger act. Rihanna could put out an ABBA covers album and would probably flop with it at radio...

Rick, as far as the dance charts, they are sort of bogus. I mean, Cher (or any older diva) could burp and they could mix it and it can chart at dance. Unless you hang out in a dance club, you never hear dance songs. On top of that virtually ANY song can get mixed (and do). The smartest younger performer is Rihanna. They mix nearly all her songs and even her filler songs get mixed and pushed to dance so I think she had 7 #1's at dance off her ANTI album. Cher's gorgeous ballad from Burlesque You Haven't Seen The Last of Me was mixed and went to #1 at dance and that was a pure ballad. I'm still pissed it was NOT sent to AC radio. Cher fans always bring up the dance chart as a positive sign but it is the AC chart that is nearly impossible for an older FEMALE artist. The thing about AC radio is the fact it is radio. ANY radio play helps a song, album and artist. It is NOT FAIR that AC radio adds older MEN. Why is it that Rod Stewart and Paul McCartney and other older MEN get the AC radio adds so easily? Somehow Cher's fans never complain about it as if it is normal. I notice and get disgusted by it. I was so happy to see that WBR had sent SOS to AC Radio since they usually do not send her stuff to AC. After she did so well on AC with I Hope You Find It, I expected WBR to send I Walk Alone to AC Radio but they never did. I was so pissed. That song was great and I mean the actual song not the mixed dance version. And WHY they did not just add Pink so make it a Cher-Pink duet was beyond me. A Cher-Pink duet of I Walk Alone would have actually made the Hot 100. It would have been an iconic song.
From 2001 - 2013, Cher had 10 releases from her Living Proof and Closer To The Truth albums. She managed to chart on AC just twice. In 2002 with "Different Kind of Love Song" No. 30 and 2013 with "I Hope You Find It" No. 17. The remainder of her eight songs all managed to chart at Dance in the Top 5. In 2018, "SOS" was sent to AC but so far has failed to chart. And there has been an angry outpouring at a few forums about the unfairness of this decision at radio. We are well aware that AC is the more important format. But when the programmers as well as the record label show no support, fans can do next to nothing. My point being:
If it hadn't been for the Dance charts, both LP & CTTT would probably have disappeared from the BB 200 faster then they did. Fans have had to follow where ever the singles are released and continue to support her with purchases and radio requests (difficult!), any way they can. "You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me" was not even released to AC (a sure No. 1 charter) but went straight to Dance and became another hit for her. The problem, some would say, could be her dance material but it goes beyond that. She has always faced resistance for radio adds from AC. It almost appears as if programmers have made AC a male oriented format. Aside from programmers deciding what we should and should not hear, a big problem is that the AC charts have been taken over by the younger artists of today, as if they didn't have enough charts to place in. Soon, the Dance charts will become as difficult for these more mature artists to get on as popular artist take over this format too.
The battle to correct this has to come from the female artists that is being affected by this. In fact, all female artists must come together and confront radio, their labels, and the recording industry. This is not going to get better. AC has been doing this for many years now and don't look to change.
Celine Dion released Ashes this year. She did NOT even chart on the Hot 100. She peaked on AC at No. 22 (like Cher's Fernando). Her label decided to do a remix and she nabbed a third No. 1 at Dance. Barbara Streisand, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Diana Ross, Jennifer Hudson and many more will continue to face bigger difficulties unless they do something now. It's not just a Cher thing - So yes, the "bogus" dance chart, right now, is the only place we know she can still chart. I would much rather prefer an album in the format of "Heart Of Stone", but that's hasn't happened.

I am a bit surprised that AC stations have not hopped on the Cher project more. The format skews to an older audience and she is doing material from the main listeners heyday (mid-70s - 1980). ABBA was never a huge presence presence on U.S. radio back in the day, but their music was quite well known. Especially with folks re-discovering it in the early 1990's with Muriel's Wedding and the Gold album. When I was a little kid, I knew the song Dancing Queen because it came out when I was about 6 years old, but I was too young to be much of a music fan. Just whatever my parents or older brothers were playing. I only really became aware of their catalog of songs when Gold came out. Surprisingly, they only had 4 top 10 singles in the U.S. on the Hot 100. Given how huge that album became, I would expect more folks in my age group (48) to be excited to hear this album. Hopefully, the right song will click with more mainstream AC radio rather than just on the dance charts. Either way, I like the album and whether or not it gets played on radio doesn't impact my enjoyment.

Dancing Queen zooms back into the top 10 on Album Sales, giving the set a fourth week in the region. Perhaps an email reminder was sent out for fans to redeem copies of the album, if they had yet to.

^Never mind that- Album Sales is where it's at for the acts whose new music, by default, do not enjoy competitive streaming levels. :)

Cher's physical CD sales have now topped 200,000 in the USA so not bad. Ya, her streaming is nearly zero but that's how it is for older artists. At least she can sell physical copies and that is where the actual money is for the artist.

Cher Asks Judge to Dismiss Lawsuit Over Album Cover Typeface 3/07/2017 by Eriq Gardner Typefaces are not subject to copyright, Cher's lawyers told a New York federal judge on Monday. The singer along with Warner Bros. Records, Ganesh Productions, Smog Design Inc., and Ryan Corey are facing a lawsuit from Moshik Nadav, a graphic designer who claims having his Paris Logo typography copied for Cher's 2013 album, "Closer to the Truth," which has sold about 585,000* copies since its release. UPDATE: Soon after this story appeared on Tuesday, Nadav voluntarily dismissed the lawsuit. * world-wide total / current total probably nearer 600.000 since release of Dancing Queen

Global Chart Report --------------------------------------- Thursday, December 13, 2018'Dancing Queen' by Cher 14,000 / 409,00020 Best Pop Albums of 2018 www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/best-pop-albums-2018-ariana-grande-768311/cher-dancing-queen-768320/5 - Cher, ‘Dancing Queen’ Who else could get away with a whole album of ABBA songs besides Cher – the Super-est of all Troopers? After she stole the show in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again by stepping out of a helicopter to belt “Fernando,” she really had no choice. So on Dancing Queen, the diva pays respects to one of the few mega-pop franchises that can rival her for staying power. (This was also the year she followed ABBA to Broadway with The Cher Show. Get this woman her EGOT, stat!) She torches up Seventies divorce laments like “The Winner Takes It All” and “One of Us.” Maybe next she can top Bohemian Rhapsodywith a Queen tribute; fans have craved her “We Are the Champions” for years.

My sister and brother-in-law just saw The Cher Show on Broadway and loved it. She said one of the love stories in the show is the love and bond between mother and daughter. Georgia Holt (Cher's Mom) has been in her daughter's life all through her career and still is (big time). I guess the show opens with Cher as a child in El Centro, CA with her mom and all 3 actress who play Cher at different points in her career/life (Babe, Lady and Star) and all interact with Georgia. I really want to go to NYC to see it but that is a lot of money (air, hotel, tickets) but we will see the real Cher in her 2019 tour. Funny how on some nights the real Cher will be on stage (Here We Go Again Tour) while her life in The Cher Show will be playing in NY. Nice to see Cher still has a red hot career in her 70's.

Yup, and on a couple of nights, Cher will be performing in NYC in arenas while The Cher Show plays on Broadway... Basically, she's competing with herself for thousands of seats in the same city...
