As much as I like the album, I hope we don't have to wait too long until an album of original songs considering her long breaks recently.

The ballads on this album are gorgeous. My favorite songs are Chiquiquita, The Name Of The Game and One Of Us. It is so nice to just hear Cher's beautiful voice with no tweaking. I am dying for a Cher album more Rock though like her Geffen stuff. In the meantime, I do love DQ!

Those numbers are very impressive! Did she do any sort of ticket bundle? Yes, she did. I think it's a smart move especially for these veteran artists who still sell out shows worldwide.

Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter V’ Earns Second Biggest US Spotify Debut
September 29, 2018 Written by chartdata 180927-lil-wayne-tha-carter-v-album-cover Album cover | Young Money/Republic/Universal
Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter V’ got off to a great start upon its Thursday night release at streaming and retail. The long awaited album quickly unseated Cher’s ‘Dancing Queen’ record for the pole position at US iTunes and sent the entirety of its tracklist to the top 23 slots on the Apple Music side by mid-day Friday.
skipping talk of this guy, and going further down:
According to HITS Daily Double, ‘The Carter V’ is currently pacing for a #1 bow in the United States with 475,000 to 525,000 units in its first week at retail (of which ~160,000 should be traditional album sales). However, it faces competition from Cher’s ‘Dancing Queen’ on the traditional sales side (155,000+) and a wildcard entry from Kanye West’s ‘YANDHI’, which will be unveiled Saturday evening.

#2 UK Midweeks. 11k behind Rod Stewart. If it stays in the top 3, it'll be her highest charting set since 1992.

Very Sad to see Cher's SOS not getting AC ADDS. We cannot say it is her age since Rod Stewart and Paul McCartney get AC Radio ADDS easily. This is rather SEXIST. Cher's album sold more than Rod's and Paul's yet she cannot get AC Radio adds? We know NONE if these 3 can get mainstream radio adds but all 3 should be getting AC Radio adds but only the men are.
Also kind of funny how Kanye's surprise album was going to keep Cher out of #1 and that was OK but when Lil' Wayne dropped his album at the very last minute, it was not OK for Kanye to be kept out of the #1 spot on the Billboard Top 200.
I'm sure Cher does not care and I'm sure Cher and WBR are happy with this album's performance so congrats to CHER! Congrats to Lil' Wayne too for his #1!

Agreed, balletgirlmom. The odd thing is that "SOS" was getting adds from Dance. And just when it should have entered the dance club charts it vanished. This was about the same time that "One of Us" was released as an audio/video. The strange thing is that they did not send it for adds to AC. Someone from another forum mentioned that the physical Cd sticker list "Chiquitita" on it and so it may be a contender for AC. To add further confusion, notice that all the "releases" thus far (GGG, SOS, OOU) had an audio/video. Dancing Queen also has one, though it may be because it's the title of the album - but it could also be a contender for release. I hope they do go with Chiquitita for AC (they can always do a Dancing Queen remix for dance club). Whatever they decide to do, they better do it soon since Christmas songs will hit the chart by the end of the month and nothing will be able to chart on AC until that is over with.

Rick, as far as the dance charts, they are sort of bogus. I mean, Cher (or any older diva) could burp and they could mix it and it can chart at dance. Unless you hang out in a dance club, you never hear dance songs. On top of that virtually ANY song can get mixed (and do). The smartest younger performer is Rihanna. They mix nearly all her songs and even her filler songs get mixed and pushed to dance so I think she had 7 #1's at dance off her ANTI album. Cher's gorgeous ballad from Burlesque You Haven't Seen The Last of Me was mixed and went to #1 at dance and that was a pure ballad. I'm still pissed it was NOT sent to AC radio.
Cher fans always bring up the dance chart as a positive sign but it is the AC chart that is nearly impossible for an older FEMALE artist. The thing about AC radio is the fact it is radio. ANY radio play helps a song, album and artist. It is NOT FAIR that AC radio adds older MEN. Why is it that Rod Stewart and Paul McCartney and other older MEN get the AC radio adds so easily? Somehow Cher's fans never complain about it as if it is normal. I notice and get disgusted by it.
I was so happy to see that WBR had sent SOS to AC Radio since they usually do not send her stuff to AC. After she did so well on AC with I Hope You Find It, I expected WBR to send I Walk Alone to AC Radio but they never did. I was so pissed. That song was great and I mean the actual song not the mixed dance version. And WHY they did not just add Pink so make it a Cher-Pink duet was beyond me. A Cher-Pink duet of I Walk Alone would have actually made the Hot 100. It would have been an iconic song.

Also, I think it's been a long time since Céline (who's a lot younger than Cher and Barbra) has had a big hit at AC radio.

Cher Ties Solo-Career-Best Rank on Billboard 200 as 'Dancing Queen' Debuts at No. 3 www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8478578/cher-dancing-queen-billboard-200-no-3The album launches with 2018’s biggest sales week for a pop album by a woman. Cher’s new album Dancing Queen debuts at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, tying for the diva’s highest-charting solo album ever. It also earns the biggest sales week of 2018 for a pop album by a woman, and Cher’s largest sales week since Nielsen Music began electronically tracking music sales in 1991. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Oct. 13-dated chart -- where Dancing Queen debuts at No. 3 -- will be posted in full on Billboard's websites on Tuesday, Oct. 9. Cher also reached No. 3 with her previous studio set, 2013’s Closer to the Truth. (Cher was also one-half of Sonny & Cher, which peaked at No. 2 on the chart in 1965 with Look at Us.) Dancing Queen -- comprised entirely of ABBA covers -- bows with 153,000 units, of which 150,000 are in album sales. The set generated about 1,000 in TEA units and 2,000 in SEA units. Dancing Queen’s sturdy bow was encouraged by sales generated from a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer for her upcoming U.S. tour, as well as old-fashioned album sales through stores like Target, Walmart, iTunes, Amazon and the like. Dancing Queen is also the top-selling album of the week with 150,000 copies sold. It marks Cher’s first No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart and her largest sales week for an album since Nielsen Music began electronically tracking sales in 1991. Cher’s previous biggest one-week sales sum came in 2003, when The Very Best of Cher started with 122,000 copies sold (April 14, 2003 chart). Dancing Queen also tallies the biggest sales week for a pop album by a woman in 2018, and the second-largest sales frame for a pop set this year (trailing only the debut week of Justin Timberlake’s Man of the Woods, when it started with 242,000 copies sold on the Feb. 17-dated list). The last pop album by a woman to yield a larger sales week was Taylor Swift’s reputation, which sold 232,000 in its second stanza (chart dated Dec. 9, 2017).

Ok, what is wrong with this picture?
Cher's album outsold Paul McCartney and Rod Stewart's week one numbers. WBR sent SOS to AC Radio (the only USA radio that will play a song by an older artist) yet NO Adds and I mean ZERO adds for Cher's SOS. Why? It is NOT an age thing since Paul and Rod always get AC Radio adds. Why not Cher??????

It’s really sad for older females at radio. If this were an album of original songs and they gave her zero attention, that would be more insulting. I have a feeling radio programmers are viewing this album as a novelty thing and have no interest in playing ABBA songs covered by a veteran female artist.
Sadly something tells me if Selena Gomez did an album of ABBA covers, Top 40 would have jumped on any single from it.

I have a feeling radio programmers are viewing this album as a novelty thing and have no interest in playing ABBA songs covered by a veteran I agree. I don’t think it’s as much it being Cher as it being an album of ABBA covers. Rod’s song is his biggest original song on AC in 20 years. Paul’s single is his biggest hit in 25(!) years on the AC chart. I think if Cher had put out a strong original song, AC would have played it.

I disagree. I wish I was wrong but even new stuff by Cher would be ignored. Rod Stewart did MANY MANY MANY cover albums over the past 20 years and got adds all the time. A song is a song. Cher has had trouble getting AC ads even when she were a bit younger. Most of the time, the only way Cher got adds was to work her butt off for the song. She'd perform the song all over the place like she did with I Hope You Find It. With Paul McCartney and Rod Stewart and Elton John it does not matter what they record (cover or not). They automatically just get adds. It is just that as an older female artist, it is nearly impossible even on the so-called ADULT Contemporary chart.

There's a considerable amount of camp/novelty built into even just the concept of Cher doing ABBA. She delivered, and it's great, but it's still Cher doing ABBA. As fun as it is, it's fundamentally campy without even trying to be. If you look at a list of ABBA covers, it's very short, and it's very.... ummm... unsuccessful in the US. Erasure, Steps, A*Teens.... *crickets* I'm just saying, it's a hard sell for radio. Even if it shouldn't be.
