Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" holds at #1 for the third straight week. . It's the first song by a female artist to do this since Mariah Carey's "Honey" in 1997. This week I think it's between her and Cee Lo

As we can see, the iTunes success of "On the Idol Floor" is hardly causing radio to send its airplay into overdrive. Maybe it will crack Hot 100 Airplay at some point, though, as it surely has some airplay at other formats that could add 2m+.

If it goes top 3 on BB due to strong sales it will be hard for radio to keep giving her the cold shoulder.
I also think it can still go Top 20 on CHR--enough to set the stage for the second single.

Lo can't have some of the same type of success at radio with On The Floor.

4 Minutes peaked at #11 on BB hot 100 airplay. And she was 49. That's insane if you ask me.

Who needs airplay when you 're selling downloads like she is? lol Well, it could give her a higher peak at the Hot 100 and help her with the longevity, etc... I don't think sales relate much to airplay. There have been countless examples of songs performing much better on iTunes than airplay. Considering several years of flops, On The Floor is off to a good start, it's top 40 on Pop and has a decent bullet.

JT is never a guarantee. Poor Esmee Denters flopped with her single here featuring JT. At least Ciara managed a Hot 100 top 10 with LS&M.

It's hard to find female over 40s to score top 10 hit on Hot 100. Cher, Madonna, Mariah and now J.Lo.

On the Floor is on the verge of a dance hit which screams one hit wonder and a proper comeback song. The song has appeal on its own but the next single will show if people are taking J.Lo back as an artist.

JT is never a guarantee. Poor Esmee Denters flopped with her single here featuring JT. At least Ciara managed a Hot 100 top 10 with LS&M. 4 minutes, Carry out, Ayo technology and Love sex magic were all the highest peaking singles of their albums. Coincidence? Just because some Esmee Denters flopped (does he even sing in that song?) doesn't mean it's more than just an exception.

"4 Minutes" absolutely was boosted by the presence of JT- but, as noted, he's not always a guaranteed hit- I believe Duran Duran had JT and Timbaland on a single, and it didn't do much.
J.Lo's never been much of an "artist." She's had very commercial music, nothing that's musically been regarded as great. She's similar in that vein to Paula Abdul, Britney Spears, etc. (though Spears has had a couple of notable singles get notices outside of the fan community). Of course by the people who would buy Lopez's releases would see it as great, and that's all that matters in terms of the charts.

I agree she is definitely more of a commercial dance artist...although even Paula had songs like Rush Rush and The promise of a new day that still get played on older stations (in addition to Cold hearted, straight up, forever your girl)...I always thought that JLO and Britney were very similar to her. JLO because of the dance back story and Britney because of the dance and their non-threatening, likable images (in the beginning). I do think that Britney has at least been able to adapt with the sign of the times...Paula-not so much and JLO has had a bumpy ride in that department. Seems to be uphill for JLO now.
