Woot go Katy! 4 #'1 from one album is insane. If she matches Michael's 5, though, I'll be pissed

I gotta say, E.T. is hardly "made for the masses." It's a pretty weird song -- comparing love to aliens and using very aggressively electro beats. I'm no Katy stan but it's my favorite song of hers (hate the addition of Kanye, but I just listen to the original).

I do hope that Katy doesn't get a 5th #1 with this album (don't hate me), but she'll probably release a 5th single as she released two singles even before the album went out

I think what makes it more impressive for Katy is that it's much tougher it seems for singles other than lead singles to do super well since leading singles benefit greatly from iTunes downloads since album-purchases aren't available. If you're an album-sales artists, your singles are less likely to sell a lot because the people that would have purchased the single already have the album. Unless of course you release a remix like Katy did. But even still, the third single went to #1 too. I'm curious for sure to see if Katy can do it for single five. I doubt it because by then the album will have been a year old almost but it still does feel fresh and she's still at an extended career-peak where everything she touches turns to gold. Can it last into the summer as well? We'll see.

^^And that's exactly where Katy benefits. Only 1.1 million people have her album, so her huge digital sales are in part thanks to her low album sales.

Hot Country Songs is just airplay. (I believe they were considering blending digital sales to the chart last year but the record industry balked. Same thing happened with Hot R&B Songs chart.) And its airplay - like all the other radio charts - is one day off-cycle with Hot 100 airplay, so often the highest ranking country song on Hot 100 airplay is not the #1 on Hot Country Songs that week. ahhh Thanks :)

So far this ERA she has sold at least 12,357,000 singles (only counting CG, TD, FW, ET) California Gurls - 4,560,000 Teenage Dream - 3,255,000 Firework - 3,722,000 E.T. – At least 820,000 In total revenue this would equal rougly 12.35MM x USD 1.29 = USD 16 MM Album’s Price avg. Is USD 9.99. This would translate into 1.6 MM albums. She might not be selling a lot of albums but she’s still bringing the money… Between her singles and album she has brought USD 28 MM which is obviously good business for her record label.

Oh yes definitely, she's still making money for her label. It's just if Teenage Dream had sold 5 million to date it would be alot harder for her to be dominating in terms of digital sales which in effect would lower her chances for #1's. And is GaGa actually #1 again? I guess we all counted our eggs before they hatched

You sure did. I was wondering where everyone was getting their info from and while I wasn't going to question it, I was still skeptical. It seemed so close for people to actually be as sure as they were. I think singles sales won out this time.
(assuming *I'm* not jumping the gun...)

GaGa also has streaming whereas Katy doesn't. I think that might've given her the edge this week.

No, musicvideo views. Billboard uses them in their hot 100 calculation. It counts only for a small percentage but that might've been enough to get GaGa the 6th week over Katy this week.

Did ET hit number 1 on itunes before or after Glee? Last time Glee had a single at #1 for a number of days, "like a g6" went back to being the default #1.

Katy's lead too big for this to happen. Something's fishy!!! GaGa sold a rumor 24k physical copies and then with streaming it could make up the difference. Hopefully next week Katy get's it!! The video will be released by then :)

If Gaga is #1 (Perez has been wrong in the past!) her single is supposed to have sold 20-30K and streaming may have tipped it in her favor. I still don't see how Katy wouldn't be #1 even with the physical single and streaming though. Like, even if the physical single sold 30K and she somehow gets 10K in streaming it still wouldn't put her at #1?

The video will be released by then :) no it won't. The video won't have impact until the following week. Next week the BEP's could take it. I think they are beginning to lose their lead, but they need to sell over 30k more than Katy to be #1. The following week (starting on Thursday) is when the video will make it's impact (with streaming).
