I finally got around to watching Deborah's episode of "Unsung".
I forgot how much of her stuff I have.
I think I own all of her cd's except the jazz one.
She used to be HUGE in the clubs back in the day with her remixes.
I always liked the originals and her remixes enhanced the tracks in a different way.
Her current dance stuff she had done in the more recent years have been very hit or miss with me.
I guess I like it when they remix her songs best opposed to a new put together one.
I completely forgot about "Beautiful U R". I wish she would release a few new tracks like that one.
Her ballads were always great too. "Play Your Part, Nobody's Supposed To Be Here, Where Do We Go From Here and so many others I loved.
I have to go back to my old cd's.... I almost forget about a lot of the music I have.

I have the cd it came from. It was 2 disk and one disk was mostly remixes of "Mr Lonely" and "Absolutely Not".
I'll have to check but I don't remember there being an "original".

Going down memory lane now and kind of forgot about my old obsession "Something Happened On The Way To Heaven".
Did that have a ballad/midtempo version?
There's one on youtube but I'm not sure if it's official.
That show "Unsung" has introduced me to some good music.

I have that CD, the Wildlife and Junior Vasquez mixes of Mr. Lonely are epic! I read somewhere years ago that there is an original version (like Absolutely Not) it just has never been released.

Actress-music artist Deborah Cox has been tapped for a recurring role in HBO Max’s Station Eleven, a 10-episode limited drama series based on the international bestseller by Emily St. John Mandel, from Maniac creator Patrick Somerville and Paramount TV Studios.

Written and executive produced by Somerville, Station Eleven is a post-apocalyptic saga spanning multiple timelines. It tells the stories of survivors of a devastating flu as they attempt to rebuild and reimagine the world anew while holding on to the best of what’s been lost.


Cox will play Wendy, a musician looking for more in The Traveling Symphony.

Somerville also serves as showrunner. Hiro Murai directs and executive produces with Somerville, Scott Steindorff, Scott Delman, Dylan Russell, Nate Matteson, Jeremy Podeswa and Jessica Rhoades. Nick Cuse and David Nicksay will serve as co-EPs. Paramount TV Studios is the studio.

Cox toured nationally in the lead role of the musical The Bodyguard. She headlined the BET movie Influence and also appeared in the Lifetime movie V.C. Andrews’ Rub and recurred in the BET comedy series The First Wives Club. Her upcoming seventh studio album is set for release in 2021. Cox is repped by TCA and longtime manager Andy Howard at Shelter .

I never realized she was relegated exclusively to Dance, Urban, and Urban AC throughout her entire career instead of being a crossover artist like Whitney or Toni until I compiled this list.

Singer you worked with who deserved to be bigger
TL: Deborah Cox would be the one that pops into my mind. She had plenty of success. I just think, for my money, she’s an extraordinary artist. She’s someone you want to create for. She has so much talent, but I don’t think she got her just due, though, being under, I guess … the Whitney Houston umbrella. There can only be one queen in the castle, and it was Whitney’s castle.

JJ: That’s very true. I always think of James Harden. When he played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, initially, he was the sixth man on that team. Then he went to the Houston Rockets and was the man. I always think about if Deborah Cox wasn’t on Arista under the Whitney umbrella and went to a different team — if she would’ve been the main one on a team rather than the sixth man in the Clive Davis Arista Records era, where you had Aretha [Franklin] and Dionne [Warwick], all these other great singers there. Deborah is definitely a championship singer, but she was just sixth man on that team, basically.
