She also has a new club-oriented single coming soon that was written by Janice Robinson (formerly of Livin' Joy "Dreamer" fame) and produced by John Dahlback. It's called "I'm Not Alone." I'm in need of music from these ladies! But what ever happened to TDK/The Queen Project? Tamia was interviewed over the Summer last year and she spoke about that briefly. She mentioned that scheduling and other stuff prevented it from going ahead as planned. But they did record some stuff. Here's some of that: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vajixg17pHk

Deborah has a new song on Tony Moran's new Mix Magic Music called "Tenderness". It's simply exquisite. There's no word on whether it will be a single, but it absolutely needs to be! It is on iTunes right now. "Tenderness" is Track 17 itunes.apple.com/us/album/mix-magic-music/id443529702"Tenderness" was previously recorded by singer Deborah Cooper (she worked extensively with Clivilles & Cole in the 90's) last year, however, it was never released. It was re-recorded and reworked several times. Anyways, Deborah Cox recorded it this year so now it's finally here.

More Deborah news! - She has been performing a new song called "If It Wasn't For Love" at some of her recent Pride event shows.
Here's a little bit of it.
Listen for it at your local Pride celebration during the next week or two as it has been given to some key tastemakers.
- The song "I'm Not Alone" (with John Dahlback) has become "Listen To Your Heart". It's supposed to come out in the UK on the Defected label (they are a major Dance music label over there) in the Fall at the soonest.
- There are two other songs called "Beat Won't Stop" (with Rune R.K.) and "Help Me" (with Erick Morillo)
(All information in this particular post is paraphrased from info posted by Robert at DJRicoMixshow)

Thanks for the update! It feels like she is following through with her initial announcement a few years ago that she was going to release a jazz (Destination Moon), a R&B (The Promise) and a dance (this new one?). It took her a couple years, but each was worth the wait.

First Look: Deborah Cox as Josephine BakerThe new musical based on the life of the iconic entertainer who dazzled Paris audiences will be directed and choreographed by Joey McKneely, who was Tony-nominated for Best Choreography for both The Life and Smokey Joe’s Cafe.
Josephine features music by Steve Dorff, lyrics by John Bettis and a book by Ellen Weston and Mark Hampton. The musical, according to a previous press notice, is “inspired by actual events, and takes place in Paris between 1939 and 1945: Josephine Baker is queen of the Paris music halls, involved in a liaison with Crown Prince Gustav VI of Sweden and secretly serving her adopted country in the French Resistance. Her heroic work during the war brings her the self-worth she so vainly sought in fame, money and the arms of royalty.”

Here's that unreleased song "Can't Fix Broke" from a long time ago. It surfaced in the form of a remix by Jerome Farley a couple of years ago.

Deborah’s fallen off so much from her height of ‘Nobody’s suppose to be here’ etc. I love her on one of the be st female duets ever, ‘Same Script, Different Cast’ with Whitney. She’s just fallen off. I don’t understand how she doesn’t have a contract. If Keyshia Cole, Marsha Ambrosius and the like can have a contract I don’t get why she can’t. She has the clubs, the gays, she can sing, I just don’t get it. J Records could have gotten her from Arista and do something for her. Waste! Clive dropped the ball on her big time but she needs to get on some hot tours and stop doing these spot appearances with just a track playing in the back. She’s better than that.

The Josephine Baker role is a good look for her! yes it is! Hopefully she can find some mainstream success for her music endeavours. I met her at a Whitney concert some years ago. Both ladies are beautiful in person.

I don't like that song on Tony Moran's cd. I do like the stuff she did on the jazz cd.
Is this Josephine Baker production on broadway?

She is an undeniable talent, but in today's market, she can be seen as "boring" by some, which may explain why she has not netted any major industry attention. If Kelly Price, Faith Evans, Macy Gray, Chante Moore, Lil' Mo, Coko are struggling, I can see why she is as well. It just is not fair, though.

She's about to star in a Broadway show, that's nothing to sneeze at. There are a zillion singers who would kill to have her career.

This is true but we also have singers like Ledisi, Marsha A, Jill Scott and the like although they are niche singers, they all have record deals and are charting. Deborah, I feel went off to dance music which have always been loyal to her but I still feel that she has something to offer mainstream. Monica imo is pretty boring and safe and if she can prosper certainly Deborah should be able to. Her voice is just as good or better, definitely bigger and her material for the most part was good.

She is pushing 40 years old, hasn't had a hit in over a decade, and only had hits from her first two albums anyway. Her last few albums did not perform well at all. Her marketability is in the toilet. I don't know why anyone would be shocked she can't get a decent record deal right now. There are plenty of washed up R&B divas with fantastic voices that can't get a deal to save their lives, because a great voice and low market appeal is not going to bring in significant profit.

Her last couple of releases didn't do 'well' because they weren't released by a major label with the appropriate backing. She sold them mostly off of her personal website. p.s if Aretha at 60+yrs old can release to wal-mart surely she can do so, Heck if Keke Wyatt who has had no cd success to speak of can release independently ....see my point and Deborah still looks good! I'm not expecting her to get a huge deal but from where she was, I thought Arista should have kept her. But I see your point, just a shame really.

She is releasing music on her own now so she can do it on her own terms. In the past, she had spoken about how she wanted to the do the Jazz thing, some R&B, and some Dance. And she got to do the first two. A little Dance stuff here and there too. Based on what was communicated by Hosh Gureli at the DJRicoMixshow boards, he was basically suggesting that since Deborah wasn't quite as well-known in Europe, the Dance music that she was doing now would be more suited for European tastes so as to introduce her there. That collaboration she did called "Leave The World Behind" a couple of years ago was one of the firsts of that sort. And then those additional ones that I referenced above also are supposed to be serving that same sort of purpose. The "Tenderness" one just suddenly happened (like during the last couple of months). Hopefully a club release will happen soon. The window of opportunity is really limited.
I do agree that she could do so much better if the promotion were much better (with the R&B stuff). If she plans it out right, the Josephine Baker run could be stepping stone for helping her to get back on track and do better than with her last album.
