She is pushing 40 years old, hasn't had a hit in over a decade, and only had hits from her first two albums anyway. Her last few albums did not perform well at all. Her marketability is in the toilet. I don't know why anyone would be shocked she can't get a decent record deal right now. There are plenty of washed up R&B divas with fantastic voices that can't get a deal to save their lives, because a great voice and low market appeal is not going to bring in significant profit. Yeah, Stephanie Mills, Àngela Winbush and Miki Howard to name a few... Just because they aren't on the charts does not mean that they are washed up, all of these aforementioned ladies are huge talents, and alot of people in the industry now lack what they naturally have. Deborah just needs some hot tracks. If she gets great material, i think she could do well. She should go to Verve where Ledisi is, she is doing well there.

Deb is 1st generation so to speak so I wouldn't lump her with them- She is infinitely hipper than all 3 and more modern.

I guess my point is that unfortunately, it's hard to keep a major label deal once you reach a certain age.

Deborah is just as unlikely to have a comeback as any of them despite the fact she started her career between a decade and two decades after all of them. The point is that a lot of these non-crossover R&B divas with big churchy voices have their short period of success until the next one comes along and takes over that niche. The general public does not care that Deborah Cox is nowhere to be found on Urban radio when they have someone like Jennifer Hudson. Deborah Cox never cultivated that kind of a fanbase. Her core fanbase has been cultivated by the records she records for the gay clubs and club hits never sell albums. The gay club fanbase also has a tendency to hang on to the divas after their glory days are over.

A lot of the non-crossover divas end up doing these low-brow plays/musicals that come to the Beacon Theater. Debbie Cox, on the other hand, is coming back to Broadway so I'd say she's played her cards right.

Deborah Cox, New Kid on the Block join CBC’s Cover Me CanadaAngela Hickman Aug 31, 2011 – 1:30 PM ET | Last Updated: Aug 31, 2011 1:19 PM ET The celebrity judges for CBC’s upcoming Cover Me Canada were announced Wednesday, and they’ve already got titles: Jordan Knight (of New Kids on the Block fame, and a dual Canadian/U.S. citizen) is “the showman,” Torontonian Deborah Cox is “the songstress,” and producer Ron Fair (he set up the hit cover of Lady Marmalade that came out a few years ago) is “the star-maker.” The show’s format is similar to that of American Idol, except that contestants on Cover Me Canada will be limited to performing covers of Canadian hits. Brace yourself for lots of Celine Dion and Shania Twain, and probably some Avril Lavigne. The show premieres Sept. 18 at 9 p.m. on CBC and will be hosted by Nicole Appleton, best known for her part in British girl-band All Saints, but who was born in Hamilton, Ont. The winner will receive a $100,000 cash prize and a recording contract with Universal Music Canada.

This is one (of many) advantages to being Canadian. While your career might be over in the US, you can still have a moderately successful career in Canada, partly due to Governmental radio and TV requirements, but also because of the limited number of actual "stars" in Canada.

Youtube only has individual clips of the auditions up. Only select cable subscribers in Michigan can view the show since it's so close to Canada.

Here's an article and new interview with Deborah. Get Out! Exclusive: The Return Of Deborah CoxBy Get Out! Contributor Deborah Cox has conquered the R&B and pop charts with six top-20 Billboard singles and an impressive ten #1 hits on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play chart. While singing with Celine Dion, Cox was discovered by the infamous Clive Davis and instantly signed to Arista records. Her gold-selling debut album “Deborah Cox” was released in 1995 and was followed by “One Wish” in 1998. From that album came the double-platinum “Nobody’s Suppose to Be Here,” which held the record for being the longest-running #1 R&B single for 14 consecutive weeks and earned Cox a Lady of Soul and a Soul Train Award. Her second single, “We Can’t Be Friends,” also climbed to #1 on Billboard’s singles chart and sold more than 500,000 copies. “Things Just Ain’t the Same” and “It’s Over Now” followed. In 2000, Deborah recorded the duet “Same Script Different Cast” with Whitney Houston. Her next CD, “The Morning After,” was released in 2002 and yielded two dance floor faves: “Absolutely Not” and “Mr. Lonely.” She then went on to light up the Great White Way in the lead role of Elton John and Tim Rice’s Broadway musical, Aida. Now she’s back with a new CD in the works and an upcoming role on Broadway. In 2012 she will portray the legendary Josephine Baker in Josephine. But you don’t need to wait until next year to see her perform. Deborah Cox will present her latest track, “If It Wasn’t For Love,” at DJ Tracy Young’s birthday bash at District 36, Thursday, November 10. It’s been too long since you last graced the gay stages of NYC. It has been a while! It will be nice to be back. I love my NYC fans. You’re performing at Tracy Young’s birthday bash at District 36. I’m excited. Tracy’s a friend and I wanted to be there for her special day. She also gave me an amazing new remix of my new song that fans are going to love. This was my small way of offering a personal thank you to Tracy. Do you have a wish for Tracy Young on her birthday? Oh girl, you’re the best. Here’s to many more club hits and many more nights lighting up dance floors around the world. I simply wish her happy times. Life is so short, we all need to enjoy every moment. All my love to you on your special day, Tracy, and I wish you many more! Let talk about “If It Wasn’t For Love.” It’s a fantastic new track produced by Mixin’ Marc and Tony Svejda. The remixed version was in collaboration with Young Collective. You performed it at Boston’s Pride this summer to rave reviews. It’s one of those powerful songs that people connect with. It’s about love… …and how love is the anchor for everything. Love really does impact every part of our lives. Wouldn’t you agree? 100%! My loved ones offer me an amazing support system that allows me to do everything I do. Your songs provide the backdrop to love found on the dance floor. I have heard so many stories about my songs having a personal impact on fans’ lives. I love to hear them. It brings a special meaning to my music. I met my life partner boogying to “Absolutely Not” on the dancefloor 10 years ago. To this day, whenever I hear that song, it brings me back to the first time I set eyes on him. That’s incredible. I mean, to be associated with the time when you met your life partner, that’s just beautiful. But let’s talk about you. “If It Wasn’t For Love” isn’t the only new song you have coming out. You’re also about to release “Tenderness.” Yes, “Tenderness” is an original song I recorded with Tony Moran. Did you write it? Tony came up with idea. I embellished it. It was a collaborative effort. Deborah Cox plus Tony Moran equals hands-in-the-air dance anthem! Oh yes, we do not disappoint on this one. You really don’t. I lost five pounds working out to it on the treadmill. What I love about Tony is he has a real love for a dancefloor with high energy and soaring vocals that everyone can sing along to. He just knows how to make people feel good. Tony Moran and Tracy Young are two of the biggest DJ/remixers in today’s club scene. You’ve worked with both of them. How do they compare? They’re both amazing. I can’t really compare, though, because I went into the studio with Tony. With Tracy, I wasn’t in the studio. She picked the best vocals from the main edit. Was this your first time working with Tracy? Yes! We had met each other and done events together in the past. We always discussed working together in the future. This was the first time she has ever done a mix of one of my songs. Is it true “If It Wasn’t For Love” and “Tenderness” are just the tip of the iceberg? Will new Deborah Cox anthems be coming to dancefloors soon? I’m in the studio now finishing up my new R&B album along with new remixes. We’re planning a dance remix album. Woohoo! Do you ever tire of performing the Deborah Cox classics – “Nobody’s Suppose To Be Here,” “Things Just Ain’t the Same,” “Absolutely Not,” “Mr. Lonely”…oh so many! No, those songs are like children to me. Or no, more like old friends that I like to hang out with. They bring memories of so many wonderful moments, and when I see fans’ reactions to my performing them, I could never tire of that. With the holidays coming, what are you most thankful for? Family. Christmas is when I get to spend the most time with my loved ones. All throughout the year, there is never enough time to get things done in the day. The holidays allow me to take a breather from the hecticness of everyday life and hang with my family and close friends. getoutmag.com/get-out-exclusive-the-return-of-deborah-cox/

No Labels Anthem: Music for the Movement Debuts as a Featured Song on iTunesPenned & Produced by Akon; Performed by Deborah CoxWASHINGTON, Jan. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The long-awaited No Labels Anthem is now featured in the iTunes Music Store and available for purchase for 99 cents. Written by Grammy award-winning platinum artist Akon and performed by Grammy-nominated platinum artist Deborah Cox, the song's proceeds will help fund No Labels, a citizens' movement of Democrats, Republicans and Independents by empowering our leaders to work across the aisle. Recently, No Labels launched its Make Congress Work! action plan, which features a dozen common sense proposals to combat the gridlock and hyperpartisanship that make it virtually impossible to deal with America's serious challenges. "When I told Akon about No Labels, he was so inspired that he stayed up all night to write this song," said No Labels co-founder Lisa Borders. "The No Labels Anthem speaks to our fellow citizens of every persuasion who are not being served by a partisan, dysfunctional Congress. We want our leaders to work together - like the words and melody of this iconic song - to do what's best for the 'indivisible' United States of America." "The No Labels mission moved me to get involved and perform this song," said Cox, who has 11 number-one Billboard dance singles. "To citizens like me, Congress is like an orchestra where every member is trying to play their instrument louder than the next. That makes for bad music and its made for bad government. Our leaders need to put aside their differences and work together for the good of the country." The No Labels Anthem debuts on the day of the president's State of the Union address, where over 196 members of Congress will be sitting with members of the opposite party. No Labels has made bipartisan seating at the State of the Union and all joint meetings of Congress one of the 12 proposals in its Make Congress Work! action plan. Deborah To Star In Jekyll & HydePosted on March 26, 2012 GRAMMY® AWARD NOMINEE AND R&B SUPERSTAR DEBORAH COX TO STAR AS LUCY ALONGSIDE TONY NOMINEE CONSTANTINE MAROULIS AS DR. HENRY JEKYLL AND EDWARD HYDE IN NEW PRODUCTION OF FOUR-TIME TONY AWARD NOMINATED MUSICAL LIMITED BROADWAY ENGAGEMENT TO BEGIN APRIL 2013 FOLLOWING A 25 WEEK NATIONAL TOUR TO LAUNCH IN SAN DIEGO OCTOBER 2, 2012 (NEW YORK, NY) Nederlander Presentations, Inc. is proud to announce that Grammy® Nominee and R&B superstar Deborah Cox will star as Lucy in the international musical sensation JEKYLL & HYDE that returns to Broadway in April 2013 following a 25-week National Tour. The tour will launch at San Diego’s Civic Theatre in San Diego, California on October 2, 2012. Cox will star alongside the previously announced Tony Award Nominee Constantine Maroulis in the title dual role of Dr. Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde. Conceived for the stage by Tony and Grammy Award nominee Frank Wildhorn and Steve Cuden, the four time Tony Award Nominated musical JEKYLL & HYDE features a book & lyrics by two-time Oscar winner, Emmy winner and four-time Tony Award Nominee Leslie Bricusse, music by Frank Wildhorn, and will be directed and choreographed by Tony Award Nominee Jeff Calhoun. After four thrilling, chilling years on Broadway and multiple world-wide tours, this dark and dangerous love story from Oscar and Grammy winner Leslie bricusse and Tony and Grammy Award nominee Frank Wildhorn returns in a stunning new production that includes all the classic songs (This is the Moment, A New Life, Someone Like You) that first grabbed audiences by the throat and transformed JEKYLL & HYDE into a theatrical phenomenon. The musical is based on the acclaimed novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, about a London doctor who accidentally unleashes his evil alternate personality in his quest to cure his father’s mental illness. JEKYLL & HYDE was first introduced as a concept album in 1990 featuring Colm Wilkinson and Linda Eder, and shortly thereafter had its world premiere at the Alley Theatre in Houston starring Chuck Wagner as Jekyll/ Hyde and Linda Eder as Lucy. Following a 30-city National Tour, the Broadway production opened at The Plymouth Theatre on April 28, 1997 and earned four Tony Award nominations. Directed by Robin Phillips and choreographed by Joey Pizzi, the production starred Robert Cuccioli, who earned a Tony Nomination as well as Joseph Jefferson, Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Awards for his portrayal of Jekyll/ Hyde, Linda Eder, who won the Theatre World Award for her Broadway debut, as Lucy and Christianne Noll as Emma Carew. After 1543 performances, and featuring such replacements as Sebastian Bach and David Hasselhoff in the title role, the production played its final performance on January 7, 2001. The show’s popularity catapulted well beyond the Great White Way and, within the subsequent decade of its world premiere, JEKYLL & HYDE became an international sensation with multiple tours in the UK and North America, and over a dozen recordings from Germany, Spain, Austria, Hungary, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Japan and South Korea, among others. A pre-tour preview engagement of JEKYLL & HYDE will be presented at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts in La Mirada, California from September 7-30, 2012. Additional cast and creative team, as well as tour cities, will be announced shortly. www.JekyllandHydeMusical.comDEBORAH COX (Lucy) A multi-platinum selling and a multi-talented entertainer, Cox has conquered the R&B and pop charts, including six top-20 Billboard R&B singles, an impressive eleven #1 hits on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play chart and the lead role in Elton John and Tim Rice’s Broadway musical, Aida.
