smash This song should be doing better. Hopfully all Beyonce's psycho stans will sit down. There are so many better artistssongs out right now. Her stans were saying that new Beyonce song would be #1 on iTunes the day it was released and it's airplay would explode the song is so hot.... um.... It's barely doing anything. And it may be Top 10 on iTunes, but it's popbars are only slightly above songs in the Top20. And she's benefiting from a huge Front page Ad. This is 2011... if you're a huge superstar and your lead single doesn't explode when it's released to iTunes.... no one is checking for you. Katy Perry, #2 debut "Califronia Gurls" went to #1 weeks later Rihanna #3 after released to iTunes "Only Girl" Britney - #1 debut "Hold It against Me" Lady Gaga, #1 debut "Born This Way" J.Lo #9 debut, "On the Floor" peaked at #4 Beyonce.... Top 20 debut? How high does anyone think this will debut? #13? And to compare, This new Beyonce single has about as much promotion as "Hold It Against Me" did. It was tweeted and that's it. #1 SMASH. I don't think Beyonce's team or her stans realize that this is the digital age, people are well aware that "Who Run the World" sounds suspiciously like songs released in the past few years. M.I.A"s "Bird Flu," Christina Aguileras' "Desnudate," and J.Lo's "On the Floor" put in a blender. It's a realyl bad song, worse than "Deja Vu." It's out of control at this point. NOTE: Beyonce stans will note that I am a pressed hater because I don't put up with her and her stans BS. No ones fan base is more antagonizing and full of itself than hers. I just saw a comment calling Rihanna "Rihtard" and saying to stay out of Beyonce's threads. Oh reeally? Because we all know Beyonce stans are ENVER hating every female artist i nevery thread on every forum and blog. Again I am obviously just "pressed." A phrase many of Beyonce's stans recently learned. It's cute really.

For you to single out Beyonce fans is nothing but prejudice on your part.

SMH. "Psycho" Beyonce Stans can be crazy, but there's nothing more insane or sad than a crazy Beyonce hater........
I really love Katy and ET and want her to stay at #1, but if any song or artist is to block her from going back to the top, I'd be ecstatic that it's Adele!

UPDATE: Britney will only get credit during the week/s when the remix sells more than the original. Link: www.billboard.com/column/chartbeat/ask-billboard-britney-spears-rihanna-hits-1005150552.story#/column/chartbeat/ask-billboard-britney-spears-rihanna-hits-1005150552.story"We may reconsider artist listings on a week-to-week basis and adjust accordingly, based on which version is a given week's top seller. A similar chart precedent even exists: for past listings of double-sided singles on the Hot 100, the first-listed titles could flip-flop based on which was the dominant selling side (based on retail reports) week-to-week. "The case of 'S&M' isn't the last such a late-in-the-game guest artist remix that we'll see, either; a remix of Spears' 'Till the World Ends' - sporting Ke$ha and Nicki Minaj - arrives next week." At least we now have a clear rule given that remixing a a single is now becoming another trend.

^I do >: ( I like RITD and E.T., but E.T. needs to get at least 5 weeks! <3 To make up for the fact that it was blocked by like 5 points on 2 occasions (Born This Way was 6 points behind it but got it cause of streaming, and S&M 8 points if I remember correctly, with streaming it was probably even less of a gap between them..)

Wow BTW is REALLY dropping... I wonder if this will even be heard on radio in 6 months? I personally like the song but for a song that topped the Hot 100 or 6 weeks... this is a little odd. Not really considering the song had very heavy airplay since the day it came out. The song served its purpose and was a huge smash #1 hit. What more do people want?

Yes but S&M really didn't have any video support on Vh1 like Katy and her streaming non-exsistent because of S&M video content. Rihanna scrapped for this #1.

Longevity? What's so "odd" about a song that hit #1 for 6 weeks right out of the gate sustaining some kind of radio longevity? Why is that so hard for you to fathom? It didn't just "serve it's purpose" - longevity is the key.

On iTunes, the original "S&M" is decently ahead of the remix now, so will be interesting to see if it ends up with more points for this chart. If not, then definitely the week after. Just looks weird in the record books, to see the track under Spears listed as No. 1 peak, with 1 or 2 weeks spent on the chart. But, I guess no weirder than some tracks (i.e. album-preview tracks) that debut high and then drop off after 1-2 weeks.

This Rihanna / Britney chart-credit really does remind me of the "I'm Real" situation. Of course, once JLo hit number one, it was definitely just the Ja Rule version (and - unlike S&M, perhaps - remained the remix throughout its chart run) But Ja Rule is credited in the history books as being on the song since its debut (which was weeks before he had even recorded his part!)

I don't remember hearing the album "I'm Real" on radio- did it actually get significant play? Whereas with "S&M," while some stations are playing the 'RihMix," I'd think the original still has the bulk of airplay.

The original is now outselling the remix. Its a win situation for Britney because even if she only gets credit for one week, it was the week the song went number 1. And that looks good on paper! ;)

^ Lol. In what world is 2 million considered a flop? Cause your condescending post makes it sound like you're trying to call it a flop.

For a song that sold almost a million in ten days, it did fade away quickly.

He's not calling it a flop; he's just saying that it's hard to call it a 'huge number one hit' with just 2 million sales. Christina Perri's "Jar of Hearts" peaked at #17, has 2 million sales, and is only 10 spots below BTW on iTunes right now (they're numbers 30 and 20, respectively).

The song basically had the airplay of a top 5 hit within a week of being released. So it's basically having the trajectory that a lot of big hits have. It's just missing the whole rising up the charts portion of the run because it basically peaked as soon as it came out.

It's pretty much the same situation for HIAM except BTW performed a little better thanks to a much bigger promo launch from Interscope. They both had big airplay really quickly and huge first week sales...but it faded really quickly.

It's cute really. No. Just because the song isn't exploding as well as the lead singles of those artists you mentioned doesn't mean nobody is checking for Bey. Did you miss all the IMMENSE hype this got before and after the song even came out? ??? People are obviously still checking for Bey, if anything, it's just the type of song that RTW is. May I remind you that "Russian Roulette" was released following a lot of huge hype from Rihanna's situation that year yet it limped it's way to #1 on iTunes before plummeting extremely quickly? And I don't recall that taking off that well on radio either. A lot of people said the same about her and look how quickly she bounced back with a radio friendly single. Bey will be fine in whatever case, there is NO way she will fail. Top 5 on iTunes is great, and she's holding steady there so idk why people are even comparing this to NMT which frefell incredibly on like it's 2nd day.

DO I have wrong numbers for BTW? I have it around 2.3 million now and with promo, album release, and the Glee episode upcoming was assuming it should pass at 3 million sold. I am confused why people are saying it "barely" hit 2 million? If it does hit 3 million plus it wouldn't be a bad total, in my opinion. BR only came around the 4 million mark and was a MUCH bigger hit.
I am not sure what to think about Beyonce. She is a huge star, but not known for massive single debuts. It has never, ever hurt her before so I have to assume it won't this time. There is also a second single waiting in the wings that is supposed to be the more radio friendly. I won't throw in the towel already and declare the era over just because the first single isn't an insta-#1.

while im thrilled Ri got her 10th #1, S&M to me REALLY did not deserve #1 lol. Top 10, yes, but not #1. It peaked at #3 in the UK and thats the highest it shoulda gone everywhere else. It obviously was a calculated business move to get her that #1 and it worked effectively. Shes got the same kinda shwered chart experts on her team like Mimi had most of her career. Difference is Rihanna is only 23 and has 10 number 1s while I dont think Mimi was in or around 10 #1s at 23.
