while im thrilled Ri got her 10th #1, S&M to me REALLY did not deserve #1 lol. Top 10, yes, but not #1. It peaked at #3 in the UK and thats the highest it shoulda gone everywhere else. It obviously was a calculated business move to get her that #1 and it worked effectively. Shes got the same kinda shwered chart experts on her team like Mimi had most of her career. Difference is Rihanna is only 23 and has 10 number 1s while I dont think Mimi was in or around 10 #1s at 23. whatever. It still would have peaked at #2 on the Hot 100 without the remix. And, it was #1 in airplay and pop. Move on. It's a great song and deserves the success it has had.

I don't get the argument that it only deserved (better move the conversation out of the way quickly before HolidayGuy jumps in) to peak at #2. Yeah releasing the remix out of nowhere at convenient timing right as it was peaking was a curious move but at the end of the day X amount of people were interested/bought the single willingly to get it to #1. And it's not like it moved from out of the top 10/20/40 to grab the #1 spot, it was already a MASSIVE hit, her team was just capitalizing on it. No big deal.

UPDATE: Britney will only get credit during the week/s when the remix sells more than the original. Link: www.billboard.com/column/chartbeat/ask-billboard-britney-spears-rihanna-hits-1005150552.story#/column/chartbeat/ask-billboard-britney-spears-rihanna-hits-1005150552.story"We may reconsider artist listings on a week-to-week basis and adjust accordingly, based on which version is a given week's top seller. A similar chart precedent even exists: for past listings of double-sided singles on the Hot 100, the first-listed titles could flip-flop based on which was the dominant selling side (based on retail reports) week-to-week. "The case of 'S&M' isn't the last such a late-in-the-game guest artist remix that we'll see, either; a remix of Spears' 'Till the World Ends' - sporting Ke$ha and Nicki Minaj - arrives next week." At least we now have a clear rule given that remixing a a single is now becoming another trend. So will Brit fan forgive Billboard for the Blackout "snub" now that she got a #1 single handed to her? LOL

LOL Uhm, it was more like... Britney helped Rihanna get the #1. This must be note-worthy right? S&M remix to have one week on the chart. The original is selling more than the remix atm. BB will not let the remix chart as a different single, so S&M original will chart next week

Omg. "S&M" being #1 is not negotiable. Seriously. #1 on sales, #1 on airplay..... that's a #1 song. This is out of control. Certain artists just can't win with the amount of STANS Beyonce other artists have. I knew it would continue to happen. #1 on sales and airplay and Rihanna STILL gets hate from all her contemporaries' stans saying she doens't deserve it, or she isn't worthy, or it's unjustified, or it's not fair. It's out of control. If you want to talk about unfair, then every song that was ever #1 without being both #1 on airplay and #1 on sales simultaneously doens't "deserve" it either. This is OUT OF CONTROL. There are few instances where another song "deserves" to have a higher position, but that's just the way it is. All i can say is eat it, b*tch.

With her 10th #1 on the Hot 100, Rihanna is already in some very select company. How many weeks have her songs spent at #1. Below are the artist with the most weeks at #1 on the Hot 100.
1. Mariah Carey--79 2. The Beatles--59 3. Boyz II Men--50 4. Usher--43 5. Michael Jackson--37 6. Elton John--34 7. Janet Jackson--33 8. Beyonce--32 Madonna--32 10. Whitney Houston--31

SOS - 4 weeks Umbrella - 7 weeks Take a Bow - 1 week Disturbia - 2 weeks Live Your Life - 6 weeks Rude Boy - 5 weeks Love The Way You Lie - 7 weeks Only Girl - 1 week What's My Name - 1 week S&M - 1 week.
35 weeks at #1. That would put her at #6, 1 week behind Michael.

We also have to take into consideration weeks:#1 ratio. I believe Boyz II Men only had like 5 or 6 #1s and most have spent close to 10 weeks each

^^ This is not a pre-hot 100 thread..lol No kidding. But to negate Elvis' great achievements just because he happened to have achieved most of them before the Hot 100 existed, seems short sighted, and doesn't give a full picture of rock/pop history.

It's not like I put it on the list itself, I just added it in my own post. Your precious list hasn't been altered in any way. And refusing to acknowledge its existence, doesn't mean it didn't happen either. Billboard counts pre-Hot 100 charts, not exactly sure what your problem is with them.

And Does that make Britney the only artists ever to spend 1 week on the chart with a #1 song...lol

That would put her at #6, 1 week behind Michael. minor edit: "SOS" only managed 3 weeks at No. 1, so Rihanna's total is actually 34 weeks. that would put her at No. 8 on the list, tied with Elton.

I would love it if Adele snagged the top spot this week. These few weeks have certainly been interesting, much as this big name remix thing seems like a cheap scam it makes everything much funner.

I don't think Adele had enough of a sales lead this week.. she didn't have the benefit of having two versions available. Her airplay gains match Katy's so she's not getting closer to matching it anytime soon. Her sales have to be a LOT stronger if there's any hope....

"Rolling in the Deep" already has surpassed most expectations, so falling short of the top spot ain't nothing to be disappointed by. Naturally, it would be a nice addition to the No. 1 album, but other than that...

^ Lol. In what world is 2 million considered a flop? Cause your condescending post makes it sound like you're trying to call it a flop. If a song sells 2 million copies it's not a flop, but it's far from a huge smash hit.
