Thanks so much! Whitney and Britney are the only ones with 10mill+ albums And soon OIDIA will hit 10million aswell <3 (soon=10 years, but still) That's not accurate. Other female artists who have albums that have sold over 10 million copies include, but may not be limited to : Shania Twain, Alanis M., and Celine Dion. Currently, Shania Twain's "Come On Over" cd holds the record for the most sales for an album by a solo female artist. (The previous record holder was Alanis' "Jagged Little Pill" album.) Those sales numbers do not include music club sales. One set of music club sales numbers (from BMG) was posted by LOCKHEART on Page 4 of this thread. Important: Thank You to Push The Button and Lockheart for posting those sales numbers. All of the information is very much appreciated.

Just thought I would give you guys some updated figures for your favs. :) Alicia Keys: Songs in A Minor - 6,243,280 The Diary of Alicia Keys - 4,638,705 As I Am - 3,784,161 The Element of Freedom - 1,500,840 That's a total of 16,166,896 for Alicia's four studio albums. Very impressive! She's been a very consistent album seller. Even TEOF, which some saw as a disappointment, managed 1.5 million which is incredible for an album released in 2009, especially an album without a big pop hit. Hasn't Alicia's Unplugged sold about a million as well? Or did I just make that number up? Gwen Stefani/No Doubt: No Doubt - 331,410 The Beacon Street Collection - 115,711 Tragic Kingdom - 8,142,423 Return of Saturn - 1,583,659 Rock Steady - 2,839,778 The Singles 1992-2003 - 2,455,492 Love Angel Music Baby - 3,986,513 The Sweet Escape - 1,714,226 That's a total of 21,169,212 for No Doubt's albums (about 15.5 million) plus Gwen Stefani's albums (about 5.7 million). Can't wait for their new album (if it ever actually comes out!).

I've been away of this board for months but I had to come back just to say thank you so much for this thread PTB, this is really priceless information! I wonder if you also have digital songs/singles sales? and can you please complete the Mariah Carey bit? there's only 4 albums missing I think - Greatest Hits, The Remixes, The Ballads and Playlist: The Very Best Of - unless there's other small releases like the Valentines EP which I always wondered how well it did. P.S.: Dunno if we can consider them "divas" but how about a Björk, Regina Spektor, Tori Amos and Feist sales history?

^Not sure- but part of the reason could have to do with how a number of selections get severely discounted or even get "sold" for free. You know, "Buy 1, Get 2 Free," those sorts of deals. Still count as toward shipments, though. Yeah, I guess that makes sense. No wonder these record clubs didn't make it past the 90s, they couldn't afford to sell 10 albums for a penny. What was the deal? Buy 10 albums for a penny then buy 3 albums at the regular price within 5 years?

When did the clubs go defunct? I remember still seeing advertisements for them in magazines and stuff in 2004/5 but then again that time was kind of the last hurrah in terms of big album sales.

Like Mimi Carey, Celine Dion saw nearly all of her sales in the SoundScan era (as Unison was released in the USA in September 1990).

Along with PJ Harvey, Bjork has been the most acclaimed female act to emerge since the 90s- but, understandably, as she's not exactly a mainstream act, her U.S. album sales have been miniscule by comparison.
These are some numbers from early 2007:
Debut - 921,000 Vespertine - 404,000 Medulla - 237,000

Does A&M records still exist? Yes Fergie, Maroon 5, and Nicole Scherzinger are signed to them currently It's not the same entity, though. It was absorbed by Universal.

I'm going to do a top Soundtrack thread next. Paul Grein has me interested.
We know the Bodyguard will be the #1 soundtrack of the Soundscan era, but Grease has also sold quite a few copies as well. So have the Disney soundtracks.
Any suggestions on future Soundscan catalog threads?

Thanks, PTB> Aside from Madonna albums to come, keep in mind that she (and Whitney and Janet) saw a good number of sales in the pre-SoundScan era. PTB, are these numbers through early April? The Madonna ones are the same from that time frame. Not that they'd have huge updates since then... If you find updated numbers for Who's That Girl (as meager as they are) and Evita (which should be at 2 million-plus), it would be great- thanks in advance. :) Just Madonna and Britney. Madonna was the last artist I was going to update, but Soundscan went down and never came back, so I went to bed. I went ahead and just placed the ones I gave you back in April as a placeholder, and since it's unlikely they've seen much of an increase since then, they should all be in the same vicinity. Every other artist is updated through this Wednesday. :) Hopefully I'll have all of Madonna's updated catalog this afternoon. Britney's numbers are from April as well, with the same reason as above. I'll get updates for those too if anyone wants. I'll get numbers for Whitney's Christmas album, Avril Lavigne and Leona Lewis later today. Thank you so much for posting all of these numbers. So much appreciated. If you can, can you post: Aaliyah Brandy Monica's please. Thank you.

Thanks for all the sales numbers Push The Button (by the way is your user name inspired by the fabulous song by the Sugababes?). Maybe sales for Taylor, just for completions sake?

Christina Aguilera has consistently declined in album sales for all her solo releases. Even more shocking is that there is a 50%+ sales drop after each album. Actually, most feature a 90%+ drop in sales from the previous set. While many of the other artists had peaks, valleys and upticks, she literally started at the top and it was all downhill from there. You mean she started near the top ;) #shade.

Alot of the albums are undercertified, esp Janet's. Britney also has a couple of undercertified albums, well, qualified to be certified. Both BOMT and OIDIA have record club sales of over 1 million, and Britney had somewhere above 500K. Britney should be 5x platinum In the zone should be certified 3x planinum Blackout platinum Not sure about circus...maybe if it hits 1.7m and ships up to 2million.
