Thanks so much for posting these numbers! Some impressive figures for these ladies, no doubt about that. Does anyone have the most recent Soundscan figure for Mariah's Greatest Hits? I know it's over 1 million, but not sure how much higher than that it is.

Madonna has 3 albums that with just around another 200K, they would have got to the next level. Erotica, ROL and Music. Some extra promotion would have helped. :)

Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, and Taylor Swift prove that you can have consistent sales in country music.
Beyonce has consistent sales as well. Britney, while has declined in sales since 2001, only had 1 album that didn't perform that well.
Anyways, PTB, are some of Mariah's numbers incomplete/outdated?
Mariah Carey:
Music Box - 7,210,536 Daydream - 7,579,664 Butterfly - 3,763,428 #1's - 3,754,091

Thanks for all the other sales! Do you have Leona's sales? Although she isn't as big as all the others, I would very much appreciate it! ^_^

Yah, Faith Hill's There You'll be was a non-U.S. release. Like I said, the import numbers do not add up to a whole lot, but they do add a little bit more for some than others.
All three of those Madonna albums, chartfreak, are certified at that next level, but, yeah, they could have reached that next plateau with one more single each or something.
Life in Tech- The Royal Box has not sold a copy in years, based on what I saw from November 2008. It was a nice package, though, befitting the Queen. :) It had The Immaculate Collection cassette/CD, video, a poster, postcards, etc. It supposedly was released in January 1991, s it had a couple months or so of sales before SoundScan started tracking.
neverdup- as of 8/15/10, Mimi's Greatest Hits was reported as 1.1 million.
Those other Mimi albums (except #1s) look slightly higher than where they should be, based on last known totals (and sales trends at the time)- but they may include import sales or something.

At first, it was thought SoundScan started tracking sales in January 1991- which did not make sense when you looked at some titles from early 1991 (seemed too low for some). SoundScan's site had said that Billboard started using the info in March 1991 (when it was starting with the May 25, 1991 edition). So, it looks like SoundScan probably started tracking sales in March 1991, as there were a couple of months of pre-Billboard-usage tracking done. Paul Grein had thought it was 5/25/91, but that's definitely not the case. Now, he reports "early 1991."

don't forget Mariah's first album was released before soundscan also as in June 12th 1990 and soundscan didn't start tracking for billboard until may of 1991 when it had been certified 5x patinum April 29th 1991 and we don't have full club sales either it's said to have sold 4 million through BMG

^Mimi's debut did not sell 4 million via BMG (per those BMG numbers that were released). It's shipped more than 9 million, and has not seen a lot lot in terms of catalog sales, so it may not be eligible for an upgrade.

Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, and Taylor Swift prove that you can have consistent sales in country music. Is it not common knowledge that country singers often have more consistency than other genres like, say, pop?

You listed three artists, saying they prove country singers are consistent. But those three artists prove nothing, because it is common knowledge that most country artists are consistent. Those three artists were unnecessary when arguing that point, though, because they prove nothing - it is simply known that country singers sell consistently. I'm probably sounding confusing, and, since we're agreeing that country singers are consistent performers, I'll stop here.

I'm probably sounding confusing, and, since we're agreeing that country singers are consistent performers, I'll stop here. What? You're arguing over nothing. Saying country artists sales are consistent is nothing without, you know, basis like the numbers posted here. Obviously those three artists don't represent the country genre in general, but then again, they are the only ones posted here hence, I used them as an example. Not much of an argument here really. I'll end it here as well.

No rush at all (and I realize they aren't in the same league as these other ladies), but if you could post Gwen Stefani/No Doubt and Nelly Furtado's sales I would really appreciate it. :)

Is it just me, or does anyone else here is/are rooting for those albums who are close to a milestone to be able to reach it???
For example, from the top of my head: Rihanna's first album to reach 600,000; Briteny's Blackout to reach 1,000,000; Pink's Funhouse to reach 2,000,000; etc, etc, etc.
