Sad to see Ben Gibbard and the boys not getting any love, especially with this, easily their most intriguing and interesting album. I still wonder what it is about this band that made them get all the attention, signed hype and platinum plaques. To me, this album would be that validation, years and albums since they actually received it. "Doors Unlocked and Open", ''You Are A Tourist", "Monday Morning" and "Portable Television" sounds inspired and plugged-in. "Underneath the Sycamore" is probably their catchest song ever and the verses are executed by someone who, as willful and obstinate as he spends most of the album being, still proves he can write a killer hook and melody. The bassist also kills this song. Very impressed with this album but it's quite the departure, even in the songs that sounds most like them.

Just finished my first listen of the whole album...I like it! I didn't love Narrow Stairs, so I didn't want to go out and buy it until giving it a spin, but I def am gonna pick up a copy now.

Saw the ''You Are A Tourist" video on the VH1 Top 20 countdown this morning, and I thought it was really good. Will check out their album soon enough.

Love love love this album. Thanks for starting the thread, OB!
My favorite is "Doors Unlocked and Open." However, I enjoy the entire album. There isn't a single song that I'd say is a dud.

The album isn't really my cup of tea overall. I absolutely love "Codes And Keys" and "You Are A Tourist" though. I also like "Underneath The Sycamore" and "Stay Young, Go Dancing".

Thanks for resurrecting this thread!! That sucks about Zooey and Ben. I actually thought they were a good couple and they seemed to be a good fit but you never know. Maybe Hollyweird tainted her. He can probably do better anyway. At least, we are going to get some great, depressing breakup songs. I need another song like "Transatlanticism" from them. That song is, miles and away, their career best.

"Like A Tourist" and "Stay Young, Go Dancing" are actually among my favourite Death Cab songs.

I need to go back to SY, GD because I don't even remember what it sounds like.

This is actually a great album. I didn't like it that much at first, but it has grown on me. I must say that I was expecting something similar to Narrow Stairs, which I loved, but this is nice anyway.
