^Because a writer looks at stuff from all sides, that indicates a bone to pick. I see. :) Of course, when one does that, that leads to loads and loads of BS comments. No wonder Paul no longer entertains sales requests.

No wonder Paul no longer entertains sales requests. He wasn't really objective about the whole Gaga matter, he specifically said the whole Amazon debacle diminished Gaga's accomplishments, which is a fair opinion, but hardly objective like some people claim he is (or I believe he should be). Anyway, this is just my view on some of his off-hand comments, it's an opinion I've had of him really since BTW (the single) came out and his tone. And personally I think the reason why he hasn't bothered with responding to sales requests recently is because of the influx of spammers and it's got to be boring for him to respond to certain people asking for the latest weekly sales figures for the most recent Rihanna or Britney single every column.

Mandisa shouldnt have trouble getting over 50k, not bad for her 4th album as a 9th place idol finisher Glee volume 2 almost at 900k Yep, good for j-hud. She'll get to 400k but I see 500k as elusive. She did tons of promo this week so hopefully her numbers should increase next week. Truth be told with her kind of promo, she should have hit 500k already.

^ Promotion can only do so much. I would be more concerned if she had a solid hit out but still had these #'s. I think her numbers are respectable considering she hasn't had a huge hit this era.

Well in about 3 months recovery should be over 4,000,000. I wonder if "Lighters" (or this new project) being a big hit will accelerate its sales once again. I think it will be at over 4.1 million by the end of the year.

That wasn't a knock on Gaga. That was to point out that it is not every day that a 4 month old album RISES to #1 Those upset by this should try reafing the artucle again Exactly. Some of them are really being oversensitive.

Paul also brought up the EY comparisons whenever BTW (the song) was mentioned. He definitely has a bias against her.

So do a lot of other people. For most, it's hard to mention BTW without bringing up EY because of how obvious the similarities are.

Born This Way sounds a lot like 80s era Madonna.
It is obvious and not just from Paul Grein

So, for those interested, I know some of us were discussing in the HITS thread about P!nk being on the BB200 for over 4 years now, and I did some digging and found that "I'm Not Dead" re-entered at 181 on the chart dated 1/20/2007. However, it fell off before Funhouse debuted on the chart dated 11/15/2008. So, her streak of being in the BB200 started on that chart. Which makes it 138 weeks this week. :)

BTW (the album) is all about the 80s and at some points, 90s too.
17 Bruno Mars 19,600 1,090,300 Thought this would've sold more already but I guess it has never had weekly sales of over 75k?

www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/record-labels/chart-moves-jason-aldean-has-greatest-gainer-1005239012.storyThe Billboard 200: -- Adele & "The Book of Mormon" -- This week, Adele's "21" returns to No. 1 (up one slot, with 114,000; down 5%) for tenth nonconsecutive week while the the original Broadway cast recording of "The Book of Mormon" makes history, re-entering at No. 3. Next week, we're expecting the rap duo of Bad Meets Evil (Royce da 5'9" and Eminem) to arrive in the top slot with perhaps 150,000 copies sold. -- As for some interesting moves and debuts outside the top 10 this week: -- Ozzy Osbourne & Michael Jackson: The biggest positional drop on the Billboard 200 this week belongs to Ozzy Osbourne's "Blizzard of Ozz," which tumbles a whopping 117 rungs from No. 75 to No. 192 (3,000; down 48%). The set re-entered last week after it was reissued with bonus content. It's not unusual to see repackaged sets tumble after only a week or two. The exceptions to the rule are those expanded titles that benefit from incredible promotion -- like Michael Jackson's "Thriller 25" reissue. It re-entered the Top Pop Catalog Albums chart at No. 1 on March 1, 2008 and spent the next 23 straight weeks on the list. -- needtobreathe: Family Christian's $5 sale for the band's "The Outsiders" set lifts it by 98% -- it sold 7,000 (rising 163-73), marking its best sales week since its second week on the list last September. The band is also on tour with Taylor Swift, no doubt raising its visibility. -- Depeche Mode: The legendary band returns with its second remix album, "Remixes 2: 81-11" bowing at No. 105 with 5,000. At a lengthy 39-tracks, this deluxe version is tracking separately from the much slimmer 13-track edition. The latter didn't sell enough to make the Billboard 200 this week (a little over 1,000), but it did debut at No. 16 on the Dance/Electronic Albums tally. The deluxe version of the set enters at No. 3 on the Dance list. The new "Remixes" set was released through Mute/Reprise/Rhino -- the band's first release with its old label home at Warner Music since departing for EMI Music in October of 2008. It's last studio set, "Sounds of the Universe" (Mute/Virgin/Capitol), arrived at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in 2009 off an 80,000 start. -- Above & Beyond: Speaking of the Dance/Electronic Albums chart, the production trio's second artist album, "Group Therapy," arrives with 3,000 and takes a bow at No. 4. It's the first top 10 set for the act since the tally launched in 2001. Over on the Billboard 200 "Group" enters at No. 163 -- their first hit on that list. Meanwhile, the set's "Sun & Moon" (featuring Richard Bedford) bullets 13-11 on Dance Airplay ... In other Dance/Electronic Albums chart news: Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" remains atop the list for a third straight week while the list also welcomes debuts from Benny Benassi's "Electroman" (No. 11; 2,000), indie pop/dance singer Simon Curtis' "RA" (No. 20; 1,000) and STS9's "When the Dust Settles" (No. 24; just under 1,000). -- The Beatles: Back on the Billboard 200 chart, the Beatles' "Love" returns to the chart for the first time since March as it re-enters at No. 160 with 3,000 (up 191%). The Las Vegas-based Cirque du Soleil show celebrated its fifth anniversary last week and promotion of said milestone, in addition to front page placement in the iTunes Store, helps lift it back onto the tally. The "Love" re-entry comes as the band's "Anthology" series made its iTunes (and digital) bow on June 14. The three volumes, originally released in 1995 and 1996, all debuted at No. 1 the Billboard 200. Making its premiere this week is an "Anthology Box Set," combining all of the tracks from the three editions and a 23-track distillation titled "Anthology Highlights."

Born This Way sounds a lot like 80s era Madonna. It is obvious and not just from Paul Grein there's a difference between acknowledging the similarities between those songs and hammering that same point week after week after week. I love the data we get from Paul's blogs, but there's no denying he has a big problem with BTW, and I believe with GaGa in general. here's just a few examples of Paul Grein's "unbiased" reporting of GaGa's chart performance this era: songs blog 2/13: "Born This Way" owes an obvious debt to a pair of Madonna hits: 1989's "Express Yourself" and 1990's "Vogue." Previous Gaga hits have also echoed Madonna. "Alejandro" had the Latin ballad vibe of 1987's "La Isla Bonita." Madonna should take it as a compliment. Madonna was a complete original. Nobody ever accused her of copping someone else's sound or sensibility.songs blog 2/20: Madonna's "Express Yourself," to which "Born This Way" bears more than a passing resemblance, didn't quite make #1. It spent two weeks at #2 in July 1989 (when Gaga was three years old).songs blog 3/20: Since "Born This Way" is either a blatant copy of, or fond homage to, Madonna, I'll add that only two Madonna songs have spent this long at #1. "Like A Virgin" spent six weeks at #1 in early 1985. "Take A Bow" spent seven weeks on top in early 1995.songs blog 3/27: But Gaga's chances may have been hurt by all the talk that "Born This Way" borrows so heavily from Madonna's sound.songs blog 4/17: If "Alejandro" was Gaga's "La Isla Bonita" and "Born This Way" was her "Express Yourself," "Judas" is her "Like A Prayer." I think she wore out her copy of The Immaculate Collection.

It is obvious to me as well that 'Born This Way' is a Madonna copycat song.
That doesn't mean I hate it or hate Gaga. I like 80s era Madonna and I like this song too.
A writer can't assume that the readers in April are the same as those in February.
Born This Way = Madonna, this would naturally draw comparisons between Lady Gaga and Madonna that readers outside of Pulse might find interesting.
I think Paul Grein doesn't hate Gaga, I think Born this Way was a big song in March and April and it was a natural chance to draw comparisons between Gaga and Madonna for his readers.

I think Paul Grein doesn't hate Gaga, I think Born this Way was a big song in March and April and it was a natural chance to draw comparisons between Gaga and Madonna for his readers. the remarks that Paul make go well beyond "drawing comparisons", in most of the quotes I posted he nearly accuses GaGa of plagiarism. "copycat" pop songs come out all the time, but I don't recall Paul giving such repetitive focus to the similarities between "California Gurls" + "TiK ToK", or "Raise Your Glass" + "Teenage Dream", or "Till The World Ends" + "Blow", etc. not to mention that, apart from themes relating to Christiainity, "Judas" + "Like A Prayer" have NOTHING in common and sound NOTHING alike. Paul's simply grasping at straws to discredit GaGa. in weeks when GaGa was doing exceptionally well, such as when BTW's 3-day and full week sales exploded, Paul always made sure to add comments to insinuate that said success was undeserved, owed to Madonna. in weeks when GaGa was doing poorly, such as when "Judas"' saw a big sales drop-off, Paul made it the headline/focus of his article that week. I'm sure Paul does have readers who want to see Madonna's name or some other kind of disqualifiier everytime GaGa's doing well, but I certainly don't.

I understand that the opinion of most folks here is that Paul Grein hates Gaga.
Gaga is a headline music story because Gaga is Gaga.
My opinion is that people here are overreacting

My opinion is that Paul Grein has a bias against Lady GaGa and makes an effort to portray her/her accomplishments in a negative light.

Again - people here are overreacting.
Gaga is controversial, Madonna in the 80s was controversial
Gaga's current music sounds alot like Madonna of the 80s
Comparisons of this type seem natural to me and do not imply any hidden meanings (at least in my opinion)
A writer wants people to read their stuff. Gaga is a headliner that people follow closely, this is likely why it gets so much attention from Paul Grein.
Paul Grein writes about Gaga alot - so what?
I still think people are overreacting (just my opinion)

I don't think anyone cares that Grein has an opinion about Gaga (we all do), but the fact that he incessantly goes on about the same tenuous overdrawn points week after week does get tired. A mention is fine, but it gets tedious when he's constantly inserting his own opinion about the same matter over and over again (in articles that are generally pretty straight forward chart stats and objective commentary outside the Gaga commentary).

Another laughable article from Roger Friedman (Mariah's best friend): www.showbiz411.com/2011/06/15/lady-gaga-falls-to-number-2-sales-drop-another-38Lady Gaga Falls to Number 2, Sales Drop Another 38% It looks like Lady Gaga's Amazon sale really exhausted her audience. Born this Way sold only 105,000 in its second week. It dropped 38% from the previous week according to hitsdailydouble.com. That put it at Number 2, behind Adele's album. This is quite stunning since some Universal record execs I spoke to on Monday thought they'd hit at least 125,000. But Born this Way has already gone through four singles, and none of them except the title track ever got breakthrough attention. The amazon did two days of 99 cent sales, and the basic audience for Gaga bought the album¨Can album they would have bought anyway for $11.99. Of course, many point out that amazon paid the full wholesale fare on those albums and took the loss. But not really. Amazon scored by bringing new customers into their stores and to their Cloud service. The loser is indeed Lady Gaga and Interscope. Born this Way isn't going to have legs. Instead of spending a year or six months on the charts, it's headed to an eight week flameout.

He was absolutely right on that, Mr Jump Sir
The most popular album in the country nowhere to be found on the flagship chart of the magazine was ridiculous.

Pretty much anyone who hears BTW hears the obvious Madonna comparison, and this guy mentions it all the time, and? It's not that big of a deal. There's a difference between him hating Gaga and him just thinking BTW is a carbon copy of EY. I think some are mistaking the two.

Meh. I don't think warrants much more discussion but in my opinion it's boring journalism to repeat the same tired point more than a half dozen times especially when it doesn't really hold any relevance in a chart statistics column. But whatever it's his column

I love going in to Amazon when I'm out and about doing my weekly shopping.
