And poor David. Can't say I expected much more than what HITS predicted but the #5 position on iTunes (in a relatively competitive week) made me think he could reach around 60k. I might throw him a purchase if I can be swayed by some album previews

^Alicia's IS a re-release, just of a much older album. It's just a ten-year commemorative edition for her debut album, Songs in A Minor. It has a couple of previously unreleased songs and some rare remixes. And if one doesn't follow her on twitter or facebook there's a good chance they didn't even know about it.

Warner Bros. Long Island emo band Taking Back Sunday’s fifth, self-titled album and second for WMG, is slated for 28-32k
That’s the same amount as this year’s American Idol winner Scotty McCreery’s five-track Walmart exclusive, which includes his debut single, “I Love You This Big.” The EP will sell for $5 at stores and walmart.com. The other Idol finalists, Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinhart and James Durbin, have also released five-track discs for the retailer.
That's so good for Scotty! :)

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!! So happy!!! I was scared with all the pulse talk that she'd hit Bionic numbers, shouldn't have doubted Bey or her fans <3
On par with Britney(and maybe even betteR)is good considering she had no hit this time around!!! Better than Rihanna & Katy's debut numbers for their current albums as well. Yessssssssssss!
Now the era can start.
And Adonis....you singing a different tune now sis, a few days ago you were saying something about 100k? Hmmmm

Congrats Beyonce! Those numbers are excellent considering she has absolutely no hit on radio right now (though BTINH is growing nicely). All people were expecting her to sell 150k and proclaiming the end of her career, lawl. And I already see the excuses starting with the promo (which she has done none of yet, Idol & BBMA were more than a month ago). DIL's opening was 317k so hopefully this won't be too far off from that.

Not bad at all for no hits. She has a dedicated fanbase.

This is basically what I expected except when I started to doubt myself when everyone was saying it would flop lol. It is pretty impressive when you can sell close to 300K with your biggest hit only having 25 million audience.

Bey definitely has very solid fanbase! No big hit but even better than Britney's Femme Fatale sales. Femme Fatale may sell less than 4 for first week even with a #1 hit and bigger hype. We'll know Friday when they update sales...I believe Britney was originally set for 275k-300k too until that Friday to which the projections were lower.

Hmmmm Yeah, I never thought it would go as low as Bionic numbers but it did go higher than project. I knew the Bey stans would either a) if it sold over 200k list the people that she outsold and said "See, she sold XYZ without hits single" Haha...LOL b) if it sold under 200k...well, she didn't have a hit single and she wasn't going to compromise her artistry to put out a song that fit in with the current trend....blah blah blah ...Wait until I get to the Bey thread.

Great numbers for Bey. What did Brit open with? I cannot remember at this point. I just want a point of comparison.

I can guarantee you that 4 will be selling. But how much? Katy by spring will have sold 10 times her debut week. I don't see Beyonce even getting close to 5 times 275-300.

I have to say, her sales are VERY IMPRESSIVE. She literally has not big hit to support this album and she may even pass 300k. And most of non fans predicted her to sell less than 200k just because she has no hit. She does have a TV ad running that I've seen on several different stations. Her numbers are really good. I'm not disputing that but she still has A LOT of PR behind this album even if the singles have under-performed.

Beyoncé has done well enough in her career with and without Destiny's Child that even without a big hit, a lot of people will still assume that her album is worth buying because there's sure to be some songs that they enjoy. Plus despite the lack of a big hit, the album is not surrounded by scathing reviews or other bad press. The real test is going to be how the album holds up.

I wouldn't be surprised she drops below 100K next week.

Yeah, she can't have high profile promo every week for this album's era. She's going to need radio play to fall back on and I just don't see a big hit left on the original set to give her the numbers Columbia is surely looking for. She'll chug along to plat though and save some face.
