P!nk's "Try" was meant for Kelly, but her team rejected it. Kelly tweeted that she wasn't even aware the song had been pitched to her people. I could have seen Kelly on this

Pharrell Williams - HappyPharrell's retirement fund was originally meant for Cee-Lo Green. He recorded the song, but TPTB felt the song didn't suit him. And it sounds like a ceelo song too lol

The beat for "E.T." was meant for Three 6 Mafia, but Katy took it instead. WHAT!? LOL! Now that’s a story

Just thought of one: Faith Evan's "I Love You" was offered to J.Lo but she turned it down. Faith confirmed this in an interview on 106th & Park, and Lopez is credited as one of the co-writers on the song. Also: "Gold Digger" was originally offered to Shawnna lol Patti Labelle turned down "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here". Cliff Richard and Donna Summer turned down "What's Love Got To Do With It?". Mega miss for shawna

I definitely hear TLC on that one. So glad it went to 702 though. "No Scrubs" was the bigger hit so they won regardless.

Interesting Ed wrote (at least) two songs with Rihanna in mind, especially when I can’t see her working on either, especially Love Yourself and both songs were #1 on Billboard Year-end chart. #RihannasImpact

6IX9INE - GUMMO
Beat was originally intended for Trippie Redd, but he gave it to 6IX9INE. Pierre Bourne wasn't happy that his beat "was given to a guy with a child sexual charge on his record" and feared that his reputation as a producer would be ruined.

'N Sync
Both I Want You Back & Tearin' Up My Heart were intended for the Backstreet Boys, but due to schedule conflicts, they never got around to recording them and 'N Sync got them.

Jennifer Lopez - Waiting For Tonight
Originally recorded by 90s dance act 3rd Party and made their album, but when the trio split, the song was offered to JLo.

Songs that Katy Perry passed up or gave away:
Sia - Unstoppable Sia said she wrote this with Katy in mind but Sia ended up recording it for her own album
Flo Rida f/ Sia - Wild Ones Sia wrote the chorus and it was intended to feature Katy but she never received the song.
Iggy Azalea f/ Rita Ora - Black Widow Katy originally recorded Black Widow for her Prism album but it got cut at the last minute. Katy gave it to Iggy and Iggy wanted Katy to sing the chorus but due to time constraints, she couldn't. Rita Ora ended up singing the chorus.
Nicki Minaj f/ Ariana Grande - Get On Your Knees The chorus was written by Katy and but due to time constraints, she was unable to record it and it was given to Ariana.
Britney Spears - Passenger It was originally written for Katy's Prism album but Britney ended up releasing it instead.
Kelly Clarkson - I Do Not Hook Up I think this one was mentioned earlier but originally meant for Katy's OOTB album but she ended passing it onto Kelly.

Flo Rida - Low (feat. T-Pain)
T-Pain said at Genius last week that Low went to Nelly first but he said it was corny and passed. Then the song went to Paul Wall who had actually written 3 verses on it but then Atlantic passed on it. Then Flo Rida had it.

I wish Britney had kept Telephone.
Also, wasn’t IAS4U originally for Janet? Could you imagine? A win either way.

Celine Dion & Clive Griffin - When I Fall in Love
Warren Wiebe did the demo for the remake, and Celine actually wanted to do the song with him when she heard it. However producer David Foster wanted Clive Griffin on it as a way to introduce him to American audiences. He made this decision after the original intended act, Stevie Wonder, turned it down.

And Foster's efforts to boost Griffin didn't amount to much beyond that song, as his only other US chart single was "Commitment of the Heart", which barely made the Billboard Hot 100 (#96) and AC chart (#38).

The liner notes It would be a month of Sundays before I would ever find my old booklet for Tevin's album, though. I never throw a booklet or CD away, but all my booklets except for the most recent of purchases are packed away somewhere. And yeah, I'd say that it more than worked out for Usher in the end. Babyface's style was huge in the '80s and early-mid '90s but was pretty much out of fashion by 2000 other than the occasional ballad for a female artist; Usher would not have lasted sticking to that mold anyway. The Bad Boy affiliation didn't work for him but he linked up with JD for album #2 (who lowkey deserves more credit for how he shaped the post-Face phase of r&b music), and I think that in a way it forced him to be more flexible in the long run as far as being willing to work with new producers instead of getting stuck in a rut. (It's kind of biting him in the butt now, but better that be a problem 20-plus years into his career than find himself in a rut around album #3 or something.) I tried to search for the source of the beef and the only thing I could find was an old article from 1993 that does pointedly report on the rumor that the two were about to part ways, and then a 2001 article where they just say they had differing points of view on what business moves to make. Babyface wanted to focus on writing and producing, but Reid wanted to run a record label. That still seems rather vague to me but I guess I'll just have to make do with it. I read La Reid's book and you basically summed up how they and why they broke up. There were of course other things when they were managing etc with Pebbles and the lawsuit with TLC. Other things were changing and La Reid I believe admitted he was getting "hollywood" and Babyface the opposite. However Babyface was doing his own artistic things with basically no input from him. I may be a little off but it's all in La Reid's book. Which is a great read btw. lol God I love re-reading this thread. I went ahead and checked out his book from my local library and thankfully it was available via Kindle. I can't wait to read.

Not sure if mentioned earlier in the thread, but... "Supreme" Mary Wilson passed on "Holiday," which would go on to become one of Her Madgesty's most popular tunes. Also- "rejected" wouldn't fit songs that were done by others first and became popular by another act- well, rejected by the public, perhaps.

Celine Dion - Imperfections
Originally writtern by & intended for Lauv, but after doing a demo for it, he felt it wasn't for him. When Celine heard the song and loved it, he jumped on the chance for her to record one of his songs.
