I'm still mad that Andra Day's "Rise Up" wasn't a hit. It's back in the top 40 on iTunes because it was performed on America's Got Talent. It always shoots up when it's featured somewhere. I don't know why "You Don't Own Me" was back in the top 100, but that should've been a big hit too.

This is growing into the "Black Eyed Peas 2009" level of ridiculousness.

What is this Annie LeBlanc song? I think it's one of those youtuber s**t. it's crap. not jacob sartorius crap since this one is actually somehow competent since it's a cover, but two 12 years old kid singing this kind of song is just no.

doesn't mean too much. Despacito is selling like crazy, so 2u is still selling very well.

Here's a question: as songs like Stay and Believer were any indication, songs in their discounted weeks yield roughly about 2X sales compared to their regular-priced weeks (and $0.69 is a little more than half of $1.29), then why can't they just keep a song discounted from beginning to end? The implication being that iTunes is gonna take $0.3 or whatever from the revenue per song no matter it's discounted or not?

Having worked with similar situations in real life I'd surmise that the reason is that even though in the short periods of discount sales are around double the number of sales if the discount hadn't been on, lifetime sales wouldn't be double if the discount covered the song's entire life. So interested people jump on the opportunity to pick up a song at near half price during short discounts but halving the price on a song over the long term wouldn't get enough additional people interested to make it worth it. That's of course just my guess assuming it's a similar situation to discounted event tickets.

That's of course just my guess assuming it's a similar situation to discounted event tickets. This is the exact reason. It's even a theory in microeconomics/marketing, but I forget the exact theory. Basically, yeah, people jump onto sales like piranha, but if it's that price always, then no one cares.

I wonder if artists actually care about the chart peaks of their songs. Like would discounting make sense in order to get a number one hit (like starboy?) maybe having a number one hit would give them more sway over their labels.

more life flopped heavily compared to views, but it was needed. For one, he had to re-establish the streaming record that the weeknd had stolen, and two, he had to set a new debut record. There's a reason he called it a playlist. He didn't want it viewed as an album.

2U is starting to crash pretty hard on iTunes. Could this finally be a crack in Bieber's hitmaking power?

It's also far below the other two in quality, so I'm sure that's playing a part.
