It just seems wrong that the song is charted higher with a cheaper price, I'm not dictating that it's wrong for them to sell it cheaper, just that it's allowed to chart equally. You're not serious are you?

"Let It Go" is certainly not the first song to be discounted to $0.69 while it's still "current." In fact, this isn't even the first time "Let It Go" has been discounted to $0.69. It's an extremely common practice and no different than when a single place like Target puts an album on sale.

A paid download is still a paid download. A decision has to be made to buy it. There is also no guarantee that chart position improves because of it.
'Let It Go' is not the only song on sale. ITunes has a whole bunch of songs discounted.
The pricing tiers have been in place for a while and meet chart standards for what a "paid download" is

Not to mention it has been ignored by radio unfairly (not that I think it should be a big adio hit, but barely even top 50 on pop is just wrong) so extra points from sales is whatever.

I just feel like I'd be more obliged to pay for a song that's cheaper vs. one that's normal price, regardless of whether I liked it less. Also wasn't there a rule that a single had to out for X number of weeks before a price discount wouldn't reflect upon it's billboard position?

Just looked up the actual rule, it is # tracks x 39 cents for any album (up to 3.49)
That means one track singles in its first 4 weeks that sell for less than 39 cents would not chart
ITunes lowest cost tier is 69 cents so no issue here
Either way, Let It Go is more than 4 weeks old

I've said this before, but a chart that's weighted by price and actually shows how much money was grossed by an album/song rather than number of copies would be really interesting.

What's the longest a song has been at #1 at iTunes without interruption?

^ Gotta be Flo Rida's Low. That little green square artwork was practically an iTunes home page fixture for all of 2008.

pulsemusic.proboards.com/thread/115464/itunes-1Here's some of the longest I saw, just glancing quickly. 11/10/08 - 2/5/09: Low 3/31/09 - 3/19/09: Boom Boom Pow 6/30/09 - 811/09: I Gotta Feeling 5/31/11 - 7/6/11: Call Me Maybe 6/5/12 - 7/22/12: Blurred Lines (feat. T.I. & Pharrell) 2/20/13 - present: Happy Now if you removed songs that were only #1 for like a day or so, things would be a lot different, I assume.

"Low" still holds the record for most weeks at No. 1 on Digital Songs with 13 weeks. The next highest is a four-way tie at 10 weeks.

Okay but are we sure that those are uninterrupted by any other song during that run?

Also wasn't there a rule that a single had to out for X number of weeks before a price discount wouldn't reflect upon it's billboard position? Maybe I'm wrong, but the only time I see these kinds of complaints is when it's happening for a song someone doesn't like. When it's your favorite there's complete silence about sales. For instance, why aren't you complaining that Itunes currently has a 6.99 sale for albums by Lorde, Katy Perry, Shakira, John Legend, Jason Derulo, Miley Cyrus, Luke Bryan, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake among others. Where's your outrage over that huh? Every album and single goes on sale at some point. And have you even considered this is more about itunes than it's about the artist. Itunes knows it was the Easter weekend and so was trying to not only boost the sales of the Frozen album, but also of its main single. There've been countless articles out that itunes has seen a 15 percent reduction in download sales. They're doing whatever they can at this point to increase their sales as that's more important than the little bit of profit they get off each sale.

As for that iTunes #1's thread, we don't know for sure that those songs were actually the number one song on iTunes at the time just because they were the number one title on the top 100 last...for example, Thrift Shop had multiple versions in the top 10 or 20 for quite some time, so when songs like Harlem Shake were #1, if TS had, say, version at #2 and a version at #8 it was probably selling more than the supposedly number one title. Just saying...my point is it's sometimes hard to tell which song is actually the biggest seller at a given time (unless you look at kworb's daily sales estimation, but even that may not be completely accurate and hasn't been around that long)...

The question wasnt what's selling most, it was what was actually #1.

I guess we'd have to look at the weekly sales total and make educated guesses on if a song was #1 every day that week. In general I think that's a rare exception Do we know if a song has interrupted Happys current #1 run?

I have never said I don't like Let It Go lol, and I understand when a song is older and they drop the price but not songs that were already in the top 10, also like mentioned before it isn't the first time it's price has dropped to 69 cents. edit: I'm surprised how well these Coldplay singles are selling, does anyone know how high Paradise or Every Teardrop is a Waterfall reached on iTunes?

According to Kworb All of Me and Talk Dirty were each #1 for a day presumably after Happy first reached #1 on iTunes (this was during the CMA thing)

Putting songs on sale that are already in the top 10 may be for the same reason as any other sale, $$$. The song is popular, the album is #1 and it is Easter.. If they put this song up for 69 cents the person buying it, might also buy something else too

If Happy will be #1 again next week, it will be the longest-running #1 on digital songs of the decade so far! As of this Sunday it is already tied with Thrift Shop and Blurred Lines for the longest run at #1 on digital songs so far in the 2010s (10 weeks)

LOVE Lindsey Stirling's new song. Especially because it has Lzzy Hale singing.
