Ahhh gotcha. #4-#5 & #10-#11 were so close this week. Selena will fall below Bad Meets Evil next week but could possibly sell more than DJ Khaled, while Beyonce will most definitely hold above DJ Khaled next week.

While this week's charts only track the first 36 hours of sales after news broke on Saturday afternoon of Amy Winehouse's death, fans clearly rushed to retail sites as the news spread.

Through the end of SoundScan's tracking period, which ended Sunday night, U.S. fans downloaded approximately 35,000 copies of Winehouse's Grammy-winning "Back To Black" album, nearly 8,000 copies of her debut LP "Frank," and about 5,000 copies of the digital-only B-sides collections from both "Frank" and "Back To Black," according to Nielsen SoundScan. Moreover, about 1,000 Winehouse albums in the CD format were sold, according to sources.

Amy Winehouse's 'Back to Black' Re-enters Top 10 on Billboard 200 Chart

Last week's combined album scans of about 49,000 units is up from the prior week ending July 17, when Winehouse's album catalog scanned about 1,400 units - up 3,400%. (Even in the week before her death drove up sales demand, most album sales were in the digital format, as they were in the subsequent week after her death.)

Meanwhile, moving over to track sales, during the weekend, her fans downloaded 33,000 copies of the "Rehab" track; 15,000 downloads of "Back To Black," 18,000 copies of "You Know I'm No Good;" and 10,000 copies of "Valerie" (a Mark Ronson song on which Winehouse vocals are featured), according to Nielsen SoundScan and sources who are familiar with the sales numbers at digital accounts. In total, Winehouse tracks scanned about 111,000 copies last week, up from nearly 5,000 in the prior week ending July 17 -- a 2120% gain.

Moving past last week's official SoundScan survey period, on Monday, sources say fans downloaded 8,000 copies of "Back to Black;" 2,000 copies of "Frank," and about 1,500 copies of the B-sides albums. While for tracks, fans downloaded another 13,000 copies of "Rehab; "6,000 copies of "Back To Black," 6,000 copies of "You Know I'm No Good;" 3,000 of "Valerie," and 2,000 copies of "Tears Dry on Their Own."

That means that in the three days since her death, about her fans had snapped up about 69,000 copies of her albums; and about 141,000 song downloads.

Billboard estimates that in the current week, fans will download about 65,000 albums and 250,000 songs.
Moreover, sources say that brick and mortar retail accounts have ordered about 60,000 CD copies of her albums so far this week, with Universal Music Group Distribution scrambling to fulfill those orders. Shipments should begin hitting accounts on Friday and continue through Saturday and Monday, sources say. All new orders are expected to be filled by next Tuesday (Aug. 2), sources add.

To date, Amy Winehouse albums have scanned about 2.65 million units in the U.S., with "Back To Black," accounting for the bulk of those sales with 2.3 million units. Winehouse songs have scanned3.38 million units in the U.S. with "Rehab" leading the way at 1.4 million units.

For the sake of comparison, when Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009, his solo album sales in the United States skyrocketed from 10,000 copies in the week before his death to 422,000 in the week ended June 28, according to Nielsen SoundScan - a 3,200% gain. During the same period, U.S. track downloads surged from about 48,000 copies to 2.6 million. The week of his death, the best-selling track was "Thriller" at 167,000 copies, while the top-selling album was "Number Ones" at 108,000. But since Jackson died on a Thursday, those sales numbers were accomplished in four days, as compared to the less than two days that were left in the SoundScan week when news broke of Winehouse's death. Jackson sales were strong through the remainder of the year, with the artist's album catalog scanning about 8.2 million units in 2009 and tracks about 12.3 million units.

After the May 16, 2010 death of Ronnie James Dio, the singer's solo album sales went from about 2,000 units a week to about 9,000 in the subsequent week. For the year, his album sales rose from 115,000 in 2009 to about 147,000 in 2010, while his track sales went from 150,000 to about 180,000 units, respectively in those two years. His track downloads went from 7,000 units in the week before his death to 32,000 units in the week after; and back down to about 8,000 units in the second week after his death.

Amy Winehouse's 2007 album Back To Black re-enters The Billboard 200 at #9 in the wake of her death on Saturday. It sold 37,000 copies this week, almost all of them between the time the sad news broke mid-day Saturday and the close of the tracking week on Sunday night. This is the album's third stint in the top 10. It spent 12 weeks in the top 10 between March and September 2007 peaking at #6. Following the Grammys in February 2008, where Winehouse won five awards, the album spent four more weeks in the top 10, reaching a new high of #2.

Back To Black is #1 on this week's Catalog Albums chart, displacing Adele's 19. It's the first catalog album to appear in the top 10 on The Billboard 200 since the Rolling Stones' 1972 classic Exile On Main St spent two weeks in the top 10 in May 2010 (peaking at #2).

Back To Black has sold 2,333,000 copies, including 457,000 digital copies. It's #1 on this week's Top Digital Albums chart. It sold 36K digital copies (all but 1K of its total for the week). This is the album's third week at #1 on the digital chart. It topped the chart twice in April 2007.

Winehouse's biggest hit, "Rehab," re-enters Hot Digital Songs at #46. It sold 38,000 copies this week, bringing its total to 1,763,000. The song reached #9 on the Hot 100 in June 2007. "Rehab" won three Grammys, including Record and Song of the Year.

Winehouse holds two Grammy records. She is the only British female artist to win five Grammys in one night (though Adele is expected to equal that mark next year).

Her second Grammy record is depressing. Winehouse, who was just 27 when she died, had the shortest life of any winner of the high-profile award for Best New Artist. Karen Carpenter, who won the award for 1970 with her brother Richard Carpenter, died at 32 in 1983 after a long battle with anorexia. Bobby Darin, who won for 1959, died at 37 in 1973 of heart failure. (He had been plagued with heart trouble for years.) John Lennon, who won for 1964 as part of The Beatles, was 40 when he was shot to death in 1980. (Told you it was depressing.)

Winehouse's 2004 debut album Frank (its title an homage to Frank Sinatra) re-enters The Billboard 200 at #57. This marks a new peak for the album, which debuted and initially peaked at #61 in December 2007. It has sold 315,000 copies, including 71,000 digital copies. A third Winehouse title, 2008's digital-only EP Back To Black: B-Sides, debuts at #152. This is its first chart appearance.

Back To Black re-enters the U.K. chart at #53, even though the tracking week there ended Saturday, the day she died. The album logged two weeks at #1 in the U.K. in January 2007. A deluxe edition hit #1 in March 2008.

It will be interesting to see what happens next week, when Back To Black has a full week of sales to its credit. It could climb to #1 in both the U.S. and the U.K. Stay tuned.

Winehouse, of course, paved the way for such English soul-pop singers as Adele, Duffy, Estelle and Lily Allen. Adele's 21 returns to #1 in its 22nd week on The Billboard 200. It's the first album to spend its first 22 weeks inside the top three since Celine Dion's Let's Talk About Love in 1997-1998. Both albums were boosted by inescapable #1 singles: "Rolling In The Deep" and "My Heart Will Go On (Love Theme From ‘Titanic'), respectively.

This is the 11th week at #1 for Adele's album, which is the longest run since Taylor Swift's Fearless had 11 weeks on top in 2008-2009. It's the longest run at #1 for an album by a British artist since George Michael's Faith logged 12 weeks on top in 1988. Both of those albums went on to win Grammys for Album of the Year.

21 is the first album to rank #1 as late as its 22nd week on the chart since Ray Charles' Genius Loves Company, which finally reached #1 in its 25th week in February 2005 (following its Grammy win for Album of the Year).

21 also holds at #1 in the U.K. for the 18th week. This is the longest run at #1 in the U.K. since the The Bee Gees' Saturday Night Fever soundtrack had 18 weeks on top in 1978.

Kidz Bop Kids' Kidz Bop 20 debuts at #2. It's the third album in this series (and the second in a row) to reach #2. (None have reached #1.) Kidz Bop 9 and Kidz Bop 19 also hit the runner-up slot. The Kidz Bop series has sold a combined total of about 11.5 albums in the U.S.

DJ Khaled's We The Best Forever debuts at #5, becoming the act's third top 10 album. DJ Khaled has had more top 10 albums than any other act whose name starts with "DJ." DJ Clue? had two in 2000-2001. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince and DJ Quik each had one.

Jason Aldean's My Kinda Party, which dips from #7 to #8, is in its 16th week in the top 10. That's the longest run in the top 10 for a country album since Lady Antebellum's Need You Now spent 29 weeks in the top 10. Taylor Swift's Speak Now (which was #1 when My Kinda Party debuted and peaked at #2) had 15 weeks in the top 10.

Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie" enters Hot Digital Songs at #26. It's the first single from the band's forthcoming album I'm With You, which is due Aug. 30. Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 albums.

1. Adele, 21, 77,000. The album jumps from #3 to #1 in its 22nd week. Four songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Rolling In The Deep," which holds at #8.

2. Kidz Bop Kids, Kidz Bop 20, 69,000. This new entry is the 13th album in this series to make the top 10. Only one of the past 14 volumes has fallen short.

3. 3 Doors Down, Time Of My Life, 60,000. This new entry is the band's fifth studio album in a row to make the top 10. Its last two albums debuted at #1. "What's Left" enters Hot Digital Songs at #123.

4. Beyonce, 4, 53,000. The former #1 album rebounds from #5 to #4 in its fourth week. Two songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs. "Best Thing I Never Had" jumps from #22 to #19. "Run The World (Girls)" drops from #82 to #100.

5. DJ Khaled, We The Best Forever, 53,000. This new entry is the act's third top 10 album; its first to make the top five. Two songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs. "I'm On One" (featuring Drake, Rick Ross & Lil Wayne) dips from #14 to #15. "Welcome To My Hood" (featuring Rick Ross, Plies, Lil Wayne and T-Pain) re-enters at #71.

6. Blake Shelton, Red River Blue, 48,000. The former #1 album drops to #6 in its second week. It's also #1 on Hot Country Albums for the second week. Two songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs. "Honey Bee" drops from #15 to #24. "God Gave Me You" drops from #41 to #59.

7. 311, Universal Pulse, 46,000. This new entry is the band's eighth top 10 album; its seventh studio album in a row to make the top 10.

8. Jason Aldean, My Kinda Party, 43,000. The album dips from #7 to #8 in its 38th week. This is its 16th week in the top 10. Three songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Dirt Road Anthem," which drops from #9 to #11.

9. Amy Winehouse, Back To Black, 37,000. The album re-enters the chart at #9. This is its 79th week on the chart; its 17th week in the top 10. Three songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Rehab," which re-enters at #46.

10. Selena Gomez & the Scene, When The Sun Goes Down, 28,000. The album holds at #10 in its third week. Two songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs. "Love You Like A Love Song" drops from #16 to #20. "Who Says" drops from #37 to #48.

Bad Meets Evil's Hell: The Sequel holds at #11 for the second week. It would have re-entered the top 10 had Amy Winehouse not died.

Five albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Incubus' If Not Now, When? dives from #2 to #14, Chris Young's Neon drops from #4 to #13, Colbie Caillat's All Of You drops from #6 to #15, Theory Of A Deadman's The Truth Is... drops from #8 to #23, Sublime With Rome's Yours Truly drops from #9 to #30.

They Might Be Giants lands its highest-charting album as Join Us debuts at #32. The alternative band's previous highest-charting album was 1990's Flood, which reached #75. The act first charted in 1988 with Lincoln.

The soundtrack to the Disney Channel's Shake It Up: Break It Down drops from #22 to #36 in its second week. It's #1 on Top Soundtracks for the second straight week. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, Part 2 drops from #25 to #59 in its second week. It's the top-ranking soundtrack to a theatrically-released movie for the second week.

Captain America: The First Avenger was #1 at the box-office over the weekend. The soundtrack sold 2,000 copies, too few to make The Billboard 200.

A video from CMT's Crossroads series featuring Train and Martina McBride is #1 on Top Music Videos for the second straight week. A 2009 collabo by Taylor Swift and Def Leppard from the show spent just one week on top.

Linda Ronstadt was named a recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Latin Recording Academy. Ronstadt has charted with three Spanish-language albums: Canciones De Mi Padre, Mas Canciones and Frenesi. Ronstadt has recorded in a remarkably wide range of styles over the course of her 44-year career. Latin music is just one piece of the overall mosaic, along with pop, rock, country, traditional pop and light opera. So it's odd that she is getting a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Latin Recording Academy before she gets one from the Recording Academy itself (which would recognize her entire body of work). Jose Feliciano, who charted in 2003 with the Spanish-language album Senor Bolero 2, was also tabbed to receive the honor, along with Joe Arroyo, Gal Costa, Alex Lora, Les Luthiers and Ruben Rada.

Great sales all around! Wow for Eminem! Recovery should hit 4 million by the end of the year for sure.

Bad Meets Evil EP is for sure scanning 500,000. If "Lighters" gets really big, it could near 1 million especially if it gets Grammy nominations/performance/VMA performance/Lighters video. Tons of great promo still coming PLUS the song hasnt even come close to peaking.

ADELE is still killing it!!!!!!!!! So glad for her =)

It's a moot point too. If they say it for Bad Meets Evil they might as well say it for everyone else below her on the Billboard 200... or it's like saying 'Kidz Bop would've likely been #1 this week had "Rolling in the Deep" not been in the Hot 100 top ten yet again"
