...But where is "Firework" though? "Firework" is, with all due respect, pretty much what you expect a standard, inspirational "Be yourself, regardless of what others may think of you!" video to look like. It hasn't accomplished anything in taking music video production to the next level, nor is it culturally iconic, nor are the special effects even that unique. It's not a bad video really................just far from legendary. When it comes to videos for songs that fall under the "Stand up for yourself, be yourself!" moniker, I think "Mean" and "F***in' Perfect" are both better, and those two are far from legendary also. I was sarcastically and correctly predicting the inevitable raft of "where is my fave, this list is a joke" responses. I actually think the list is great. Honestly the only ones that really stick out are, like you said, "Going On" and maybe "This Is Hardcore". Both are fantastic songs and videos, but not some of the best ever by any stretch. The rest of the ones that I don't think are among the best ever clearly had technological and cultural significance.

...and for the record I'm glad "Like A Prayer" isn't on there. I'd have chosen "Material Girl" or "Vogue", but I still prefer "Express Yourself".

Why? That video is nothing special outside of the "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" reenactment.

The "Like A Prayer" video is nothing special outside all the controversy.

I really didn't care much about Madonna's older videos, but the ones that really stood out for me
- Papa don't Preach - Material Girl - Like A Prayer
and I really liked the videos for Take A Bow/You'll See and Frozen. I thought those videos were amazing

This is a decent list. It would be cool to see a bunch of publications do a Top 30 of All-Time and then combine them to see which were the best.

So glad "The Rain" got put on the list, Missy wouldn't have become a major force as a solo artist without that video.

Well, the controversy for "Like a Prayer" was that it had powerful imagery and a morality tale. So, in that sense, it was special.
"Material Girl" was not a shot-by-shot reenactment of Gentlemen..., correct? Clear homage, obviously. And what was notable about it is that she chose the non-materialistic guy over all of the suitors wooing her with expensive gifts.

I also think LAP should be on there. I'd argue the most iconic videos ever are Thriller, Like A Prayer, Smells Like Teen Spirit and ...Baby One More Time. I think Single Ladies and Bad Romance could be in that category eventually.

Of all the Madonna videos, they choose "Express Yourself"? ??? If Time wasn't hellbent on giving each artist one entry, I'm sure Madonna (along with MJ and Björk) would have been listed multiple times. I can understand why "Express Yourself" was chosen as it is certainly one of her most influential. ...and for the record I'm glad "Like A Prayer" isn't on there. I'd have chosen "Material Girl" or "Vogue", but I still prefer "Express Yourself". "Bedtime Story" and "Ray of Light" would have been worthy of consideration as well. They had plenty of Madonna videos from which to choose.

Fatboy Slim has two entries; only act with two, though.
With a record-setting 68 VMA nominations (plus the Video Vanguard), Madonna indeed would have multiple entries on most best-videos lists. She had three on MTV's top 100 back in 1999, and, of course, 11(!) on Slant's list.
The site Popblerd posted its top 50 videos of the 80s, and "Like a Prayer" is her only entry- at No. 1. :) The site plans to unveil 90s and 00s lists in coming weeks.

I honestly don't understand how Beyonce's video is considered one of the best. It's fine but nothing outstanding. I just don't see it.
