Here in the Hartford and Springfield listening area, there are absolutely no alternative rock stations. There's a rock station that plays stuff from the past thirty years, a station that sticks to classic rock, and another that plays a mixture of classic rock and classic hits. But no true, alternative rocker since 104 turned into a hip hop station! We can't even pick up alternative stations from other areas of CT or MA! How long is this drought going to go on? It's ridiculous! Why do we have to have two hip hop stations, two pop stations, etc. etc.? >:(

You're not the only one. Jackson, MS, never had an alternative station. In fact, I believe the only Mississippi-based alt-rock station is in Oxford. You also have to be closer to Memphis or New Orleans to hear an alternative station. Jackson does have an active rock, but that didn't hit the airwaves until two years ago. WSTZ (mainstream rock) and WTYX (classic hits) are the other rock stations in the area.

I think the only true alternative-rock station in Mississippi is WUMS--nicknamed Rebel Radio 92.1--located on the Ole Miss campus, in Oxford.
