Do you remember the 1982-1983 hit for the Clash "Should I Stay or Should I Go"? This was charted in America first before The Clash's "Rock the Casbah" was released in the USA.

It's a good song, but almost everything they did before this album was better and as far as singles from Combat Rock go I prefer "Straight To Hell" by a long shot.

Last Christmas we went to a karaoke bar in downtown Chicago with my cousins one of whom had been annoying me all day. After I sang Bruno Mars' "Locked Out of Heaven" he was like "eeh good job but maybe you shouldn't have held the notes on that chorus or whatever...that didn't turn out so good". I didn't say anything. When it was his turn to sing, he was like "I'll do "Should I Stay or Should I Go" and I went "Great choice! That song literally requires zero range or sense of pitch really. Should be right up your alley!" and everyone laughed. Sorry, he had it coming he was being a douche all day.
Anyway, obviously this is a classic, but I've never really liked it. It's got a very flat, pedestrian chorus and "melody".

One of the Clash's best songs. I didn't know this wasn't a big pop hit when it first came out despite being one of their best-known songs. I assumed it was as I often heard it as 80s gold on the radio or with TV shows playing it. Also, Mick Jones's later band, Big Audio Dynamite", actually sampled this song in their 1991 hit "The Globe".

So much better than Rock the Casbah, which isn't a bad song. This song just kicks it even harder

40 years ago this week, "Should I Stay or Should I Go" debuted at #79 on the February 19, 1983 Billboard Hot 100. Whitburn says this is the same version as the 1982 version. It has different single number. This version peaked at #50 in late March 1983. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Should_I_Stay_or_Should_I_GoIn North America, the American record label Epic Records released one edition with "Inoculated City" as its B-side in May 1982. Another edition by Epic with "First Night Back in London" as its B-side, released in July 1982, peaked at number 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on the week ending 18 September 1982, the edition's tenth week on the chart. Another edition by Epic with "Cool Confusion" as its B-side, released in February 1983, peaked at number 50 in the Billboard Hot 100.
