The only thing that could have made this past chart week more fun would have been if Rihanna, Brit or GaGa were in line for #1 and Katy blocked them. Sort of like Kayne throwing the President under the bus to get GD to #1 over SIO. LOL
Katy makes USA Today Front Page. Too bad nobody mentions her Top 10 consecutive streak....

"Shake It Off" was robbed. Island could have waited one more week to release that song to iTunes.

Wow so she actually got it, congrats to her. Even though the music industry has changed a lot, I still find it crazy how she has 5 #1 singles off this album and it has only sold 1.7 million so far, you would think she would be at 2.5 million so far at least. But I guess she really is a single selling artist not a album seller. But either way its an amazing achievement no the less, I wonder if another artist will ever achieve this, maybe Rihanna???

To be fair most of us thought that before becoming Katy Perry stans. You should've been here when I was singing the praises of how good KP's songs were while everyone else was trashing them as they were being released on Itunes one by one in the weeks leading up to the album release. But all the songs released to iTunes ranged from meh to horrible: NLTM, CTD and ET. Such a glorious day! Nothing can ruin it for me. It should actually be more entertaining to you to see all the people enraged and bitter about it.

So many people made fun of me, and doubted me, saying I was foolish, she would never do it, the promo would never come, the remix wasn't enough, etc. I stood my ground, remained confident and didn't listen to criticism, and well...I have the last laugh. Feels great! looking forward to whatever happens next with Ms. Perry.

I knew I should have started a " #PartyRockersUnite" thing on Twitter and gotten it trending. Very happy for Katy! Glad she managed to do it; Teenage Dream really is that good. As for re-writing history, if I wanted that to happen, I'd want someone to go back and give Columbia/Epic a nice radio-friendly edit on I Want Your Sex to help prevent the radio ban on it and get him his 5th #1 instead of a #2. :kii:

NGL, when I found out about the news I was happier for Spree than I was for Katy :kii: If I were a Katy fan I'd be over the freaking moon right now, so yeah, they should totally soak this up. Still wondering if she is going to shoot for Rhythm Nation's record next.

The lowest digital sales for a Hot 100 #1 since 'Only Girl' in November. The lowest digital+BDS audience for a #1 since either 'Born This Way' or 'Black & Yellow.' :kii: So happy for this song and Katy and Capitol.

So happy for Katy. Teenage Dream is a beautiful album that touched my life. So glad she saw the success she deserve. Now if we could only give her the AOTY grammy she deserved...

Three years ago, "I Kissed A Girl" was the summer hit of 2008 and the naysayers kept thinking this Katy Perry girl will probably be a one hit wonder. Then "Hot N Cold" exploded, so the naysayers thought a couple of hits won't save her from a sophomore slump. Then "California Gurls" went to number one, then the album, then number ones for TD, Firework, ET and LFN and look where she's at now. Meteoric!

Damn! She is SLAYING!!!!
I like all of the singles from this album, so even as an MJ fan, I'm happy that this album tied the record.

Congrats to her. Her label has handled this era flawlessly. Props to everyone involved.
Though I really do have to shake my head at all these comments saying Teenage Dream is the best pop album released in years... I don't know how MANY years you're thinking, but I can name at least three better pop albums released in 2010 alone.

It's also one of the worst reviewed pop albums in the last several years reviews mean nothing. Personal experience accounts for more. While that's true, you can't just write off critical acclaim. It's arguably just as important as commercial success if the act in question wishes to be taken seriously as an artist.

at the end of the day, it's still personal opinion.

A "critic's review" is just a different way of saying a "critic's opinion".
If music were that black & white where something is either good or bad, critic reviews wouldn't disagree so often.

Of course it's ultimately just someone else's opinion and shouldn't make you enjoy music any less, but critical acclaim matters. There's no denying that.

Teenage Dream is not a bad album. Even the non-singles have melodies and harmonies. They don't sound bad to the human ear. Tho they might not be your taste, they still sound good. I can say i like the melodies and harmonies of a lot of country songs I listen to. But i'll still change the station instantly. Is country music my taste? No, but i'll admit some of the songs sound good to the human ear. It's just not my style.
Teenage Dream may not be your style, but you can't deny that The One That Got Away, Peacock, Hummingbird Heartbeat, and Not Like the Movies don't have melodies or harmonies, cuz they do. Just because they aren't #1 smashes doesn't mean the album is shit.
to my ear, it just doesn't sound bad. I dunno...*shrug*...

^ So lyrics, production and vocals mean nothing when judging the quality of a song?

Oh, dear. I see this thread has gone downhill quickly. Critics' reviews are honestly NOT that meaningful once you put them into perspective. Critics are just people with opinions, only they're paid to publicize them. They're not the determining factor in whether something is good or not.
