WELCOME TO THE DOG DAYS Jay-Z and Kanye Will Return to #1, Eli Young Band, Blue October Top Debuts
August 17, 2011
The Throne is still theirs.
After the second-highest debut of the year (next to only Lady Gaga), Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Roc-a-Fella/Roc Nation collaboration, Watch the Throne, will once again top the HITS Album sales chart next week.
That’s pretty much a no-brainer, considering the serious dearth of new releases this week as the summer draws to a close.
Universal Republic Nashville’s Eli Young Band appears to be the top debut of the week, based on one-day sales reports from those music retailers who haven’t vacated their stores in favor of Menchie’s Yogurt outlets. Life at Best, the veteran Denton, TX band’s fourth album overall, looks headed for between 30-35k in sales. Their last album, 2008’s Jet Black & Jealous, peaked at #30 on the Album Sales chart.
Fellow Lone Star natives and Up/Down/Megaforce Records/RED artists Blue October’s Any Man in America, their first indie release since the band’s 1998 debut, should do between 24-27k. Their last album, 2009’s Approaching Normal, on Universal Motown, went as high as #13 on the sales chart.
Next big releases include Columbia’s Barbra Streisand and Geffen’s Game next Tuesday (8/23), with Cash Money/Universal Republic’s Lil Wayne and WB’s Red Hot Chili Peppers coming out the following Monday (8/29).
Album sales were up 5% vs. last week, up 20% over same week last year and still up 2% to date. Digital tracks were down 2% vs. last week, up 13% vs. same week last year and up 11% year-to-date. TEA (Track Equivalent Albums) were up 3% vs. last week, up 18% vs. same week last year and up 5% to date.

^Why is that, so she can pad her number of No. 1 albums? :)
Is Babs doing any kind of promo or appearances?

It'll take her out of the 3 way tie for 4th most number one albums and into a two way tie with Elvis for 3rd most number ones Kinda funny becuase Jay-Z just increased his lead for second most.

Bab's album has a first week estimation of 150k.
The Game: 104k.
The following week:
Lil Wayne's first week has been lowered to 766k. It had been at 1 million.
RHCP: 277k

Wonder if Jay-Z/Kanye will have a softer drop because of the exclusivity.

Babs appeared on QVC for the last album, didn't she? That was one of the promos that threw a "wrench" in forecasting her album sales for that week.

^I know. Zero promotion, but then again, Pulse members are really not Bab's demographic!

www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgiYour Weakend Chart preview Jay Z and Kanye West repeat at #1 on next week's HITS Album Chart with their two-headed, while the juggernaut that is Adele gains in sales and moves back into the #2 slot. So Watch The Throne looking at a 60-63% drop. Not bad.
Good to see Adele and Gaga moving back up. VMAs should be good next wind for both of them. And Beyonce just cruising along.
Jesus @ Jason Aldean. He just isn't stopping. He's looking at 2+ million.

Hoping Beyoncé can hang in the top 10 for another week or 2 at least.

Surprised to see Gaga back on the predictions with what looks to be a decent-sized increase. I guess the You & I video is doing its job?

Hoping Beyoncé can hang in the top 10 for another week or 2 at least. Her sales are incredibly stready so it's likely.

If Babs does indeed pull in 150k next week, she could get that #1.
