The 3.4 million gig was recently-in the last week or so. You have been hearing similar stories for years because Christina actually commands a pretty steady and big private concert practice. She pretty regularly gets paid 2-5 million for private shows. Now, I am not sure what that means-rich people love Christina? I can sort of see why-we are a bunch of young folk who would rather see gorgeous pop stars grinding onstage to dance music, but most REALLY rich people I know are older and if they are going to hire a pop star would go for voice. She isn't the only one who gets paid by people with way too damn much money either. If I had a few million to blow, I would probably do Kelly or Gaga for a pop star and then tons of different rock stars would be cool-like, Muse, or Tom Petty. Not sure all of them could be bought though

""Jagger" owes its popularity to a TV show, NBC's The Voice, on which both singers are judges."
Even Billboard agrees. :kii:

Just like On The Floor, Moves like Jagger got off to a good start because of a TV show, but the fact that they didn't peak on their first weeks is more than enough proof that the songs were actually liked.

If I were a billionaire I'd throw 3.4 million at Kelly Clarkson for four songs; I love her that much. It wouldn't mean Kelly has this amazing star power, it would just make me a stan with WAY too much damn money on my hands. Never mind that I swear I've been hearing that story for like two years now so it's not even all that current to keep bringing it up as 'proof' of anything. Cutting someone a check only fattens her bank account, not star power or CD sales. But I'm genuinely glad for Christina that she has a rich stan with too much money on his hands. Plenty of artists who have had a career slump aren't so fortunate. Anyway, MLJ is #1 because it's catchy and infectious. M5, Christina, airplay, and/or The Voice exposure did not accomplish that on sheer star power alone, but because of the combination of exposure and the fact that people actually like it, as is the case with any song that hits #1. So no need to act like one thing and one thing only deserves all the credit - or conversely to act like any of those things don't deserve any credit at all. I get excited when I hear it in the car now because I didn't realize that the bass in it was so boomy until I caught it on the way to the store one day...addictive! A kicking bass line is the way to my heart. lol this isn't a rare thing for Christina she's been scoring these private gigs very frequently over the last 4-5 years. The 3.4 million gig for the Spanish millionaire happened just last week. The event your talking about is this below and it happened in 2007-2008 She did a gig for Microsoft a few weeks before the 3.4 million gig. It's not a rare thing for Christina to score these, it seems to happen all the time for her and she's obviously in high demand, scoring multimillionaire gigs would be the same as scoring a multimillionaire endorsement deals but she's making this money super quicker and easier than these other girls.

""Jagger" owes its popularity to a TV show, NBC's The Voice, on which both singers are judges." Even Billboard agrees. Having trouble finding the article that states its gradual rise to #1 (after falling as low as #62) over the last several weeks was due to being performed on 'The Voice' back in June. Can you provide a link?

No idea why fans of Maroon 5 or Xtina are so irritated by people saying the success of the single is primarily down to The Voice. Let's face it, without The Voice it wouldn't even exist so what's the problem? I'm a big Adele fan and will be delighted if she does in fact nab the #1 spot this week...but will have absolutely no problems admitting it will all be down the VMAs. There's no shame in artists using any (legal) means possible to get a career boost.

It is becaue, 'Moves Like Jagger' had two very distinct chart runs The Voice got the song to #8 in July The song had a chart run of 8-23-62 (due the impact of The Voice") Due to the impact of radio the chart run was 61-41-25-8-3-4-1 The chart run of 8-23-62 was due to the impact of 'The Voice', the fact that it fell to #62 in such a short time says the impact of 'The Voice' wore off. If radio had not grabbed it, the chart run due to 'The Voice' would have been 3 weeks.

"Bad Romance" jumped to #1 on iTunes the week it was featured on Gossip Girl. It did not owe its entire chart run to an appearance on that show.

The Voice obviously boosted MLJ when it debuted- and it was radio play AND Maroon 5's live performances of the track that has boosted the track in its current run. But, it is fair to say that without The Voice platform, radio may not have come around like it did and helped turn the track into a hit. It may have, it may not have. But, yes, the latter two reasons are what lifted the track to No. 1, not The Voice.

Pleasantly surprised to see MLJ get to the top spot. This is Christina's 5th #1 and her first trip to #1 in a decade. "Lady Marmalade" was her last #1. It's also her first top 5 since Beautiful peaked at #2 back in 2003!
As for Maroon 5 it's their 2nd #1 after "Makes Me Wonder" in 2007, and it's their first top 10 since that song as well.

I laughed all the way reading this thread. Seriously, where do you live people?
Moves Like Jagger is huge all over the world, even in countries where no one has heard about The Voice.
The fact that Adam and Christina are judges in that particular show IN THE USA doesn't mean the song is a hit EVERYWHERE ELSE BECAUSE of that certain show that is aired ONLY IN THE USA.
Sorry for the caps.

There is a double delusion here, regarding MLJ.
1. It's a certified smash, not only in the US, but as someone above said, ALL OVER THE WORLD (where people don't even know The Voice exists). Christina's haters are deluded to think that ONLY because of TV the song is a hit.
2. The contribution of Christina is minimal. True it counts as a #1 for her, but the song is basically Maroon5's. Christina stans are deluded to think that Christina is BACK.... she still has to smash all on her own again.

Hmm... Christina is still popular and a celebrity all over the world and people are interested in her. Her previous album just didn't click with the public.
But MLJ is a hit because the song is good. Christina adds a little extra to the song but it would've been a hit without her too imo.
MLJ MIGHT be her I Know What You Want (the song that made Mariah radio-friendly again) and thus give her a new kickstart.

Will "Don't You Wanna Stay" re-enter yet again? :) Odd that when it first re-entered the Hot 100 and then dropped off, it went back to the recurrent chart- and then re-entered the Hot 100 again. If it was considered an "active" single again, it shouldn't have goner back to the recurrent chart.
