...if they didn't mind giving the award to Taylor Swift mostly due to her huge sales, I don't think why would be different with Adele. Here we go again. Yes, I'm sure Taylor's sales played into her win, but she was given that award because Fearless is an extremely well-written album. She deserved it, point blank.

Whether she deserved the award is for each person to individual decide. Point blank.

Industry experts predicted over 700k before the launch of the album. and now it is going to hit in the 900k range. So, no, Birdman did not buy anywhere near 500,000 copies of the CD. lmfao

And about a million other orgs gave Taylor awards, which doesn't always mean quality but it's not like her getting Grammys was an anomaly.

To hit 5m by the end of the year SLY needs to AVERAGE more than 250k every single week for the rest of the year. I don't think any single has ever done that by anyone ever. I'll put $1000 down right now that it will definitely not hit 5m by the end of the year. That would put it on almost 6 million. It's a massive, seemingly impossible task but this IS Adele in 2011. ;) PS I'm talking actual end of year, not BB end of year, btw. Huh? We have 17-18 weeks left in the year. That times 250k is 4.25-4.5m. Add in the 600+k it's sold so far and that's just over 5m. Not 6m. You didn't take my bet!

It's unlikely to happen, but it will be fun to see how close it gets. :)

Don't underestimate Tony Bennett. I doubt he'll pass Adele but he could be a distant #2 for the year. And her biggest competition for the Grammy Awards. If she were to lose to anyone for Album Of The Year, it'll be him ala Herbie Hancock / Amy Winehouse. Possible bittersweet irony/full circle moment: if Tony Bennett wins AOTY, Amy, as part of the album, will win too. Amy's inclusion on the album + the tendency of Grammy voters to cause "upsets" by going for veteran albums makes me think that Tony, not Adele, will win AOTY. I think Adele will pretty much sweep any other category she is nominated in, though - I'd tentatively guess RITD for ROTY and SLY for SOTY. Pop Album and Pop Vocal categories are a lock.

How come is Lil Wayne gonna debut with nearly 1 million, when his two previous sets didn't excceed 120k first week?

Rebirth was expiremental album, which has been leaked 2 months before official release date. No one expected it to be big. I Am Not a Human Being was street album released while Weezy was in jail. However, it went platinum. Tha Carter IV is the 1st "real" Lil Wayne's album since Tha Carter III.

And like those "million" other awards, Grammys not really about quality a lot of times.
That Birdman stuff is rubbish.

Just because one album doesn't fit snugly into an act's usual style type doesn't mean it's not a proper album. Nonetheless, to have two albums open near or above 1m is highly impressive.

Yea, there's no valid argument that Rebirth and IANAHB weren't proper albums as they were widely available and meet the album requirements (length etc). 'Right Above It' from the latter was even a top ten hit. JUst because they weren't part of the Tha Carter series doesn't make them less proper albums.

Yes, that's what i've been talking about. You can make streaks and records out of anything if you put enough quaifiers on it. 2 albums "in a row" (without qualifiers) this is not.

If Rebirth wasn't a proper album, neither was 808s & Heartbreak.
That discussion aside, any sales above 700k for Lil' Wayne is fantastic.

IANAHB was not a proper album. It was meant to be a free EP, but Universal decided that it would be smart to make money off of it (novel idea), and so they sent to digital/retail outlets. i guess what i mean by proper is a RAP album that was actively promoted by wayne and his label to the fullest extent.

ask any wayne fan though, and they'll probably tell you rebirth didn't count/give him a mulligan.

So does an improper album become a proper album if it sells well?
Lol
I always thought an album released by the label with the intent that someone buys it, is a proper album. Regardless of sales level.

Have your "streak" if you want but it comes with a bunch of qualifiers.

Indeed... It's like saying that a GH released by a label to fulfill the contract or whatever is not a proper album because the artist wouldn't have necessarily released it himself.

So it became a proper album in the end. Yup, it went from an EP to an actual album. Kinda how So Far Gone went from a mixtape to an actual EP due to its popularity, Universal was thinking of the mula for IANAHB they could make due to Weezy being incarcerated at the time.

If those other Lil Wayne albums had sold 1m copies in their opening weeks, do you really think the fans would be saying "they don't count"?
