Nothing from HITS, but Billboard themselves already made a prediction!
Lil Wayne's 'Carter IV' May Debut at No. 1 With 700,000 Sold
August 29, 2011
By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles
Lil Wayne's just-released "Tha Carter IV" album could have the second-biggest sales week of the year, as industry forecasters suggest it may sell 700,000-850,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Sept. 4.
"IV" will easily bow at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week -- marking Wayne's third No. 1.
If "Tha Carter IV" launches with at least 700,000, it will immediately mark the second-largest frame of any album this year, behind Lady Gaga's 1.11 million debut with "Born This Way."
The hip-hop icon's new album, which was released at 12 AM this morning (Aug. 29), follows a pair of top-two sets for Wayne in 2010: "Rebirth" (No. 2) and "I Am Not a Human Being" (No. 1). They launched with 176,000 and 110,000 copies, respectively, according SoundScan.
"Tha Carter III" in 2008 famously debuted at No. 1 with 1.01 million copies sold in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It is one of only 17 albums to have sold a million in one week since SoundScan began tracking data in 1991.

Slightly higher than what I expected. I was thinking more in the 500-600k range.

It was very obvious he wasn't doing anything under 500k. lol Some people predicting that were just foolish. I think he will trend closer to the 850k mark. :)
There have also been some rumors of Amazon doing a big price cut for albums for Labor Day weekend (0.99-3.99 for hit albums) so that could also play a huge part in pushing him even further

Weezy always has high first weeks and then disappears off the chart. He's releasing the album at just the right time though cause How to Love is doing really well. They're already nearing the edge of the peak of single #3 before the release so I'm interested to see how sales will hold up.

I knew this would do solid numbers. It's the follow-up to an extremely well-received album in a series (Tha Carter series) and he has stayed relevant with his numerous hits, guesting on countless smash hits, and he nabbed his crossover hit with "How to Love" which is peaking right in time for the album release with an acclaimed video clip.

His last album has sold nearly 4 million copies and his 2 side projects (with almost no promotion due to being in jail) sold 750K and 950K respectively <<< more than 85% of any other artist in 2010/2011. ~Dead~

This album will likely scan 2 million.

and to add to the point, Rebirth and IANAHB both opened with below 200k and ended up selling very consistently without any huge hits. "right above it" was moderately successful on radio, but that was the only song from that album released.
wayne has a consistent fanbase. period.

Damn! I was hoping for lower numbers. Great for the music industry, though. Honestly, I think I'd rather see Justin Bieber scoring those huge sales figures than Lil Wayne. Can't stand hearing his horrible voice ruining every song he is featured in...

Wow go Lil Wayne! Not a huge fan of his music, but it is always good to see people pulling in big numbers.

If Weezy wants another million opener, he should get Amazon to discount to $0.99

How to Love did well, the Drake collab did great its 1st week, and there's also another Drake collab and a T-Pain one. But, yes, if the label wanted a million they should do a Gaga.
Reviews are in the highish 60's on Metacritic just like I Am Not a Human Being - notably lower than Tha Carter 3's 84 but much higher than Rebirth's 37.

Tha Carter III was holding in Top 30 for the 20-25 weeks, it's still in Top 200. Tha Carter II has been holding in Top 100 Catalog for years. I Am Not a Human Being, which was a retail mixtape, started with 110k and ending up with 900k+.

This reminds me when DMX would consistently open w/ large numbers. Not anymore! Except DMX is pretty much irrelevant now and Wayne was around at the time DMX was huge as well. All studio albums he's released have been certified at least gold and all except one have reached top ten (nine out of ten + Young Money's album). He's one of the biggest stars of the new millennium. Period.

Great sales, even though I don't count out the possibility for a milli. I'm sure that thanks to him we're gonna see an increase in the year-to-date album sales. I like this album better than III, but it sure lacks something big like Lollipop.

Yep- not really a Weezy fan (except for Mrs. Jefferson), but these kinds of numbers are great for the industry- and should help it maintain its year-to-year album-sales increase.

The album is pretty shitty. If it spikes in sales, its gonna be because of some discount or another televised appearance, which I don't think he has either.

I was just thinking, the Red Hot Chili Peppers picked a TERRIBLE week to release their album. Last week would have been far more convenient to score an easy #1 album.
