Speaking of possibly running out of promo money, what the hell is going on with Cheers? It seems to have hit a sudden wall. I have a feeling IDJ just isn't going to put a lot more effort into pushing it at radio because they never intended to release it in the first place. That's really a shame. Very unusual (and seemingly intentional) dropping of the ball on that one.

I hope it gets a second wind, because at this rate it might not even get top 10 on pop. :'( The re-release songs IDJ seem to be favoring better be good.

I'm surprised Capitol didn't rush out a 6th single to make sure they kept up the weeks in top ten streak. I suppose they either don't care about that record, thought it was near-impossible to get the 6th single there in time anyway, or they were out of promo money. I don't know. It feels like they've personally given up on this era though, considering the way they handled 'Last Friday Night,' and the way it looks like they're releasing 'Hummingbird Heartbeat' next. Well, if they are not going to keep the top 10 streak going at least make sure the single goes to #1. I want her to at least get one of them if she can't have both.

It is possible that radio interest in "Cheers" may be peaking- after all, it is the fifth/sixth single, and not all acts can see Katy-Perry-like success for their later singles.
It's right outside the top 10 and likely will enter the top 10- hardly something that should be considered a disappointment.
And, is it official that it's going to be another (ugh) re-release? I know some think that she should just keep pumping out the music at incessant rates, but, seriously, a year of RiRi-free music would not be a bad thing. A solid year (or a little more) with no solo or featuring releases would not negatively impact a career.

Talking about remixed versions...does anyone know how good Whitney Houston's "It's Not Right But It's Ok" remix fared in sales or/and airplay...I guess the remixed one was stronger in European markets but how much was it in the U.S. ?

'Cheers' will be fine. The updates are still huge on CHR and Rhythmic.

A re-release was implied, but nothing was confirmed. It's still not totally clear whether the new material she's supposedly been working on is for a Loud re-release or a new studio album. Either way though, I imagine the material will be released before year-end.

Adele ruling this winter, assuming she will, is gonna be a very good sign for slow songs.

^Or, Adele could be the exception- as she is with album sales. :) Though "You and I" is more ballad than any of Stefani Gaga's releases, too (though not as slow as SLY).

I thought "Cheers" was a shoo-in for #1, considering how fast it climed the i-tunes and radio charts. But I guess that doesn't always guarantee a high peak.

It usually does for newer songs, however when it comes to a 5th single, plenty of people either already have or have been exposed to the song so it usually can't keep up that pace forever like brand new songs can.

I'm surprised she hasn't received any kind of radio backlash from constantly having a song out there.

There hasn't really been a Rihanna break since the downtime between Rehab (the end of a 7-single era btw) and Run This Town, it's very much been RTT to RR to Hard to Rude Boy to Rockstar101 to LTWYL to Only Girl to What's My Name to S&M to CKB to Cheers. Talk about over-exposure.

People have been saying Rihanna is about to get overexposed since at least 2007, and here she is still racking up Top 10 hit after Top 10 hit. With literally every single she releases, you have people saying it. "Cheers" is the 5th pop single and 7th single overall from Loud. It's also following a single that underperformed and missed the Top 10. Just because it's not rocketing to #1 doesn't mean people are tired of Rihanna.

well she's not doing a re-release again so is it confirmed she's even dropping a new album this year?
i dont see any reason why Rihanna should slow down ... i always love her music & i'm sure her followers like any fanbase will gladly welcome new music into their life

If radio is making a hit out of everything you touch I wouldn't take a break either. There is no reason for a break if you are slamming out hit after hit after hit. It isn't like she is going to break for artistic reasons or something. She is supposedly releasing a new album by Christmas and I have no doubts it will be her next #1 for the lead single. It will be something similar to Rude Boy or S&M and will have 150 million in audience instantly and people will buy it by the bucket load.

I'm happy that Rihanna releases albums quickly, more new music for me. You guys should keep in mind her album sales aren't big, she's a seller over time, so it doesn't really matter. As long as she has a hot single out, all shall be okay. I just want her to have a cultural massive anthem like Umbrella that would pave the way for the entire era to be big. Not saying her recent ones weren't big, but I didn't get the same success feeling like I had when GGGB was released.

Rihanna and Katy should do a collab album like Jay-Z & Kanye did.

Other acts slammed out hit after hit, took a break (times varying) and did great upon their arrival. it doesn't matter what decade it was- there are always new acts coming to nip at their heels. I suppose because RiRi doesn't have much of a hand in the music, it makes it easier to churn this stuff out like crazy. Even Mimi Carey- who was very prolific in the 90s- had at least some time in-between, say, a final single from an album and the lead single from a followup.
In all seriousness- has there been any gap at all since RiRi hit, that she has not had an active single release out there? If so, I'd be surprised if it was more than 1-2 months.

There was a pretty big gap between "Live Your Life" and "Run This Town," was there not? About six or seven months, I think?

^Just looked over some records. Keep in mind that a single is "active" until it drops off the charts. "Live Your Life" dropped off the Hot 100 dated April 18, 2009; "Run This Town" debuted on the August 15, 2009 chart- so, a gap of four months- more than I thought.
