Here's a list of the most searched celebrities on the web globally. For being new, Gaga comes in strong at #4, with only Shakira, Obama & Bush above her. Well, she has done a lot of movies. At times she's put her movies over her music. During her peak she didn't tour so she could make a movie. Arguably, she's more an actress than a singer.

LOL. She was a dancer and an actress before she started doing the singing. Now whether she is good at any of those things is a whole other matter entirely.

^She started off with acting potential (Selena, Out of Sight), but then she got caught up in a series of mediocre-or-worse mainstream Hollywood movies. Nonetheless, probably still better at being a movie star than a musical artist.
Shakira most-searched? She's not even THAT successful worldwide, is she? I know she sells more outside the USA, but...
Oy at Chris Brown. And why 50 Cent? Sometimes these search lists are baffling. Also that it's all music acts, outside of a couple of politicians.

Also that it's all music acts, outside of a couple of politicians. This isn't a sales chart. Everyone mentioned on the web is there, look at the top 100. Steve Jobs, Sarah Palin, etc. If you click on the names it gives you an idea of what people are talking about. Shakira went up dramatically this year due to the her dating Pique and Waka Waka (both soccer related, which is not popular in the US). Gaga & Obama have declined dramatically in the past 6 months, which is what lead to the current top 4. Click on the link, then click on the names to get more info on their chart position. Here's Gaga's chart history from the past 12 months:

I had to look up who Pique was, as I never heard of him.
Can't believe that some on that top 100 get searched for that much. And, I agree, that Beyonce's position is lower than one would expect.
Is this THE official list of this type? I remember seeing one some months back that had different results. Unless it's based on a certain period of time, not a full year or anything.

^"Motivation" peaked one rung lower than "Best Thing I Never Had" on the Hot 100- and it's not like BTINH has not performed alright, especially after the prior single's showing. And let's not even compare the sales of the two's latest albums. :)
And worldwide, BTINH fared pretty well (i.e. No. 3 in the UK, No. 1 UK airplay).

Speaking of which, is there a UK airplay chart online anywhere or better yet an archive of past airplay charts? :) I've looked and looked and can't seem to find anything :'(

I can't see this list as being legitimate when Tweet is number 40 on the list. Her last and only hit song was nearly a decade ago and the article they attached to her is about a twitter application. Clearly the searches for "Tweet" probably refer to twitter and not the singer and Beyonce, who set a twitter record by announcing her pregnancy, is that low on the list? Not really buying this.

They do need to distinguish between Tweet the recording artist and tweet, the Twitter term for a posting. I think the Beyonce one is only so low because the cut off date for their tracking might have been prior to her making the announcement.

But you'd think someone who headlined Glastonbury, debuted at number one with her album in several countries (including the US & UK) and someone with her international stardom would be charting much higher on this kind of list.

I'm sure a lot of people in Europe had to search who she was. Not to mention "Commander" has been a worldwide club hit in the past year.
