^I think further hits- along with hit albums- really would determine whether there's life "pumped" into their careers. MLJ is one hit single. Granted, further exposure on The Voice won't hurt their commercial potential, but, outside of one major U.S. hit single, Jennifer Lopez didn't benefit all that much from her Idol exposure. Lopez is older than those two acts, though. I think worldwide, J Lo is not considered a musician, she's more of a celebrity which is the main difference between her, Maroon 5 and Christina. J Lo would've needed a killer single after another to stay relevant whereas Christina and Maroon 5 might do well with their own material in the wake of the success of MLJ.

Interested to see how much further PUK can get in airplay. I see it stalling around Top 5 on Pop, but HAC is loving it so it will be interesting. i wish this song had a shot at #1. It's my favorite of the bunch.

I was in a gay bar in NYC last week.
This song was blasting. I'm thinking, "WHY is this bar playing a Shania Twain country song?"
A day later, I realized it was GaGa's "You and I." LOL

Do others hear "Shania in the whole "You and I" track, or just the parts that feature Mutt Lange's backing vocals? Because that's the only part I hear it.
We'll see how much of an impact The X-Factor has on Nicole Scherzinger's single/album. I suppose Paula Abdul won't have an album out anytime throughout December (not shocking as she went all those years on Idol without recording/releasing a new album).

^^ Paula did have a couple singles though, didn't she? And they went nowhere - one was with Randy and then another was solo. I don't think they even made the top 40.

Paula did have a single or two but they never went anywhere. I don't think she ever actually released them on a cd.
I am sad that Lily Allen basically retired from music :(

Ok so this is the last chance for #2 peak for PUK as SLY will overtake it next week for sure (if it's not ahead it this week)

Woooahhh. I was happy at the one week at #1 on the Hot100 but I can now see this one having multi weeks at #1 when its airplay is up to speed (and any more updates like this and that won't be long!).

Fantastic gain for SLY. Can ballads be this big, or is Ms. Adkins just the exception?

^Of course- I was just pondering whether this will be an exception at this time. As I posted in the 9/17 thread, this indeed is the only 100% piano/vocal ballad to top the Hot 100.

SLY led most of last week on iTunes, but MLJ edged ahead in overall sales for the week.
Billboard.com Over on the Digital Songs chart, the tally returns to normal after last week's list got shook up by the "MTV Video Music Awards." "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera regains the No. 1 position (up two slots with 220,000; up 6%) while last week's topper, Adele's "Someone Like You," drops to No. 2 with 213,000 (down 22%).
The Digital Songs chart's top debut is Kelly Clarkson's "Mr. Know It All," which arrives at No. 9 with 107,000. Its the first single from her fifth studio album, "Stronger," due out Oct. 24. Her last top 10 on the Digital Songs tally came with "My Life Would Suck Without You," which premiered at No. 1 with 280,000 in 2009.
Lil Wayne's "How to Love" rebounds, zipping 20-10 with 90,000 (up 33%), Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" falls 2-3 (193,000; down 11%) and LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" jumps 8-4 (155,000; up 10%). Gym Class Heroes' "Stereo Hearts" (featuring Adam Levine) rises 9-5 (145,000; up 4%), Lady Gaga's "You and I" slips 4-6 (141,000; down 19%), Cobra Starship's "You Make Me Feel" (featuring Sabi) descends 5-7 (127,000; down 20%) and Rihanna's "Cheers (Drink to That)" moves 7-8 (126,000; down 11%).
Digital track sales this past week totaled 21.26 million downloads, down 5% compared to last week (22.43 million) and up 6% stacked next to the comparable week of 2010 (20.03 million). Year to date track sales are at 889.59 million, up 11% compared to the same total at this point last year (801.84 million).

Looks like the #2 position will be extremely close between PUK and SLY, I wonder which song will come on top. I do hope PUK gets a #2 peak this week, though.
