Added Hip Hop DX info to above post. www.billboard.com/news#/news/lady-antebellum-own-the-billboard-200-with-1005361992.storyLady Antebellum 'Own' the Billboard 200 with Second No. 1 Albumby Keith Caulfield, L.A. | September 21, 2011As expected, country trio Lady Antebellum nets its second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart as "Own the Night" debuts in the top slot, selling 347,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan. The launch marks the biggest sales week for an album by a group since Sade's "Soldier of Love" bowed at No. 1 with 502,000, well over a year ago on the chart dated Feb. 27, 2010. "Night's" start is also the largest for any country release since Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" blew in at No. 1 with 1.05 million on Nov. 13, 2010. "Own the Night" follows Lady A's breakthrough second album, "Need You Now," which started atop the Billboard 200 in February of 2010 with 481,000. The band's self-titled first album debuted and peaked at No. 4 off a 43,000 start in 2008. Lady A remains only the third country group to have notched No. 1 sets on the Billboard 200 following the Dixie Chicks and Rascal Flatts. The Chicks have three leaders while Rascal has four. Last week's No. 1 album, Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV," falls to No. 3 with 117,000 (down 47%) while Adele's "21" holds at No. 2 with 119,000 (down 2%). Country singer Brantley Gilbert re-enters at No. 4 with his "Halfway to Heaven" album (51,000; up 15,000%), after it was reissued last week by Valory Music (the sister label of Big Machine, home to Taylor Swift). The formerly independently-released set, now distributed by Universal Music Group, spent 71 weeks on the Country Albums chart from April 2010 until August of this year, selling 135,000. The final three debuts in the top 10 all come from rock bands as new efforts from Staind (No. 5), Dream Theater (No. 8) and the Devil Wears Prada (No. 10) arrive. Staind's new self-titled set is its fourth top 10 album and the follow-up up to 2008's "The Illusion of Progress," which bowed at No. 3 with 92,000. Dream Theater's "A Dramatic Turn of Events" enters with 36,000, marking the act's second top 10 after 2009's "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" (40,000 first week). Another act grabbing its second top 10 album is the Devil Wears Prada, with "Dead Throne" starting with 32,000. Their first top 10 came last year, with the "Zombie" EP, which debuted and peaked at No. 10 with 25,000. As for the holdovers on the chart, the Beatles' "1" slides 4-6 (46,000; down 24%), George Strait's "Here For a Good Time" falls 3-7 (43,000; down 53%) and Jay-Z & Kanye West's "Watch the Throne" moves 6-9 (just under 36,000; down 28%). Moving over to the Digital Songs chart, the top three titles are stationary this week, led by "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera (221,000; up 1%). Adele's "Someone Like You" (199,000; down 7%) and Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" (186,000; down 4%) stand still at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Coldplay's new "Paradise" debuts at No. 6 with 139,000, while Gym Class Heroes' "Stereo Hearts," featuring Adam Levine, rises 5-4 (144,000; down 1%). LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem," featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock, falls 4-5 with 143,000 (down 8%) and Cobra Starship's "You Make Me Feel," featuring Sabi, holds at No. 7 with 130,000 (up 2%). Closing out the top 10 is Lady Gaga's "You and I" (6-8 with 121,000; down 14%), Rihanna's "Cheers (Drink to That)" (8-9 with 120,000; down 5%) and David Guetta's "Without You" (featuring Usher), zooming 18-10 (104,000; up 71%). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Sept. 18) totaled 5.58 million units, up 2% compared to the sum last week (5.49 million) and up 4% compared to the comparable sales week of 2010 (5.35 million). Year to date album sales stand at 217.64 million, up 3% compared to the same total at this point last year (210.73 million). It is the 17th week in a row where year-to-date album volume is greater than the same time in the prior year. Digital track sales this past week totaled 21.01 million downloads, down 1% compared to last week (21.26 million) and up 6% stacked next to the comparable week of 2010 (19.90 million). Year to date track sales are at 910.60 million, up 11% compared to the same total at this point last year (821.73 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2010 when: Zac Brown Band's "You Get What You Give" debuted at No. 1 with 153,000 while Maroon 5's "Hands All Over" started in the runner-up slot with 142,000. The previous week's leader, Linkin Park's "A Thousand Suns," fell to No. 3 with 70,000 (down 71%).

Jason Aldean, My Kinda Party: 25,000 (+3%; 1.84 million)
48. Brad Paisley, This Is Country Music: 10,000 (-21%; 480,000)
He should try for some Hot AC/AC success with "Remind Me". I know Carrie seems allergic to the concept now but it's his song and it would probably help album sales. Look at what "Don't You Wanna Stay" did for Jason Aldean.
50. Kristin Chenoweth, Some Lessons Learned: 9,000
Bad idea for her to release a country album.
103. Scotty McCreery, American Idol Season 10: Scotty McCreery EP: 5,000 (-40%; 183,000)
The full-length album drops in two weeks so the EP would be falling off in sales (limited supplies running out, fans waiting to buy the "real" album).

Week Ending Sept. 18, 2011. Albums: An A For Lady A new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart_watch/74413/week-ending-sept-18-2011-albums-an-a-for-lady-a/Lady Antebellum's Own The Night sold 347,000 copies in its first week. That's the fifth largest sales tally so far this year, and the heftiest for a country album since Taylor Swift's Speak Now sold 1,047,000 copies in its first week in November. It's the trio's second album to top The Billboard 200, following last year's Need You Now. Only three other country groups or duos have had two or more #1 albums. Rascal Flatts leads the pack with four. Dixie Chicks and Sugarland have each had three. Own The Night is Lady A's third straight studio album to top the country chart. Lady Antebellum hit #1 in April 2008. Need You Now logged 31 weeks on top in 2010-2011. Own The Night is Lady A's first album to reach #1 on Top Digital Albums. It sold 86K digital copies this week. Adele's 21 holds at #2. It's the first album to spend its first 30 weeks inside the top five since Whitney Houston's The Bodyguard soundtrack in 1992-1993. These are the only two albums to accomplish this feat since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales for Billboard in 1991. 21 this week becomes the first album to sell 3.5 million copies in a calendar year since Josh Groban's Noel sold 3,699,000 copies in 2007. 21 has already sold more than the best-selling albums of 2008 (Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III), 2009 (Taylor Swift's Fearless) and 2010 (Eminem's Recovery) did in those calendar years. 21 is certain to become the first album to sell 4 million copies in a calendar year since 2005, when Mariah Carey's The Emancipation Of Mimi and 50 Cent's The Massacre both achieved the feat. It could even become the first album to sell 5 million copies in a calendar year since 2004, when Usher's Confessions did it. Stay tuned. Shameless Plug: 21 will almost certainly wind up as the year's #1 seller among both CDs and digital albums. Surprisingly, it will be first title in Nielsen SoundScan history to finish first in both formats. On Thursday, I'll have a Chart Watch Extra in which I look at the year-end champs in both formats from 2004-2010. Here are some highlights: Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream was the #1 CD of 2009, but ranked a lowly #56 among the year's digital albums. By contrast, The Fray's How To Save A Life and Maroon 5 's It Won't Be Soon Before Long were the #1 digital albums of 2006 and 2007, respectively, but both ranked #21 among those years' CDs. Check it out on Thursday. Brantley Gilbert's Halfway To Heaven re-enters the chart at #4 after being picked up by a major label (Valory Records). The album, which was released in March 2010, was previously independently distributed. The album sold 51K copies this week, more than it sold in its first 30 weeks of release combined. The album has sold 185K copies since it was released. Gilbert wrote or cowrote Jason Aldean's #1 country hits "My Kinda Crazy" and "Dirt Road Anthem." (Gilbert's original versions of both songs are included on this album.) Gilbert's album, which includes his top 20 country hit "Country Must Be Country Wide," enters the Top Country Albums chart at #2. Look for Gilbert to make a quick return to the top 10 on both the pop and country charts. His follow-up album, A Modern Day Prodigal Son, is due Oct. 18. The Beatles' 1 dips from #4 to #5 in its 115th week on the chart. What was the last album to appear in the top 10 that deep into its chart run? The Sound Of Music soundtrack, featuring Julie Andrews, was in its 148th week on the chart in January 1968 when it made its final appearance in the top 10. Other albums that were still in the top 10 when they had passed the 100-week mark in total weeks-on-chart include Shania Twain's Come On Over (112 weeks) and Nickelback's All The Right Reasons (102 weeks). 1 is #1 on Top Catalog Albums for the 11th week. (Its first nine weeks atop this chart were in 2003-2004.) This week the compilation surpasses The Bodyguard soundtrack to become the fifth best-selling album of the Nielsen SoundScan era. Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 albums. 1. Lady Antebellum, Own The Night, 347,000. This new entry is the trio's third top five album; its second to reach #1. Three songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Just A Kiss," which jumps from #30 to #27. 2. Adele, 21, 119,000. The former #1 album holds at #2 in its 30th week. It has been in the top five the entire time. Five songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Someone Like You," which holds at #2 for the second week. 3. Lil Wayne, Tha Carter IV, 117,000. The former #1 album drops to #3 after two weeks on top. Eight songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "How To Love," which drops from #10 to #13. 4. Brantley Gilbert, Halfway To Heaven, 51,000. This re-entry is the country rocker's first top 10 album. The album had previously climbed as high as #112. Three songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "You Don't Know Her Like I Do," which debuts at #68. 5. Staind, Staind, 47,000. This new entry is the band's fifth top 10 album. "Something To Remind You" enters Hot Digital Songs at #109. 6. Beatles, 1, 46,000. The former #1 album drops from #4 to #6 in its 115th week on the chart. This is its 19th week in the top 10. Surprisingly, no songs from the album have re-entered Hot Digital Songs. 7. George Strait, Here For A Good Time, 43,000. The album drops from #3 to #7 in its second week. "Here For A Good Time" drops from #76 to #91 on Hot Digital Songs. 8. Dream Theater, A Dramatic Turn Of Events, 36,000. This new entry is the prog-rockers' second top 10 album. Black Clouds & Silver Linings peaked at #6 in 2009. 9. Jay-Z and Kanye West, Watch The Throne, 36,000. The former #1 album drops from #6 to #9 in its sixth week. Two songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs. "Otis" (featuring Otis Redding) dips from #32 to #33. "N**gas In Paris" jumps from #75 to #54. 10. The Devil Wears Prada, Dead Throne, 32,000. This new entry is the Christian metalcore group's first top 10 album. With Roots Above And Branches Below debuted and peaked at #11 in 2009. (And, yes, we have back-to-back albums with the word "Throne" in their titles. What are the odds?) Maroon 5's Hands All Over drops from #7 to #32, despite the inclusion of the #1 smash "Moves Like Jagger." Maroon 5 seems to be pegged as a singles act. Four other albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Red Hot Chili Peppers' I'm With You drops from #5 to #11, Now 39 drops from #8 to #16, Beyonce's 4 drops from #9 to #20 and Foster The People's Torches drops from #10 to #14. Anthrax's Worship Music bows at #12. It's the metal vets' second highest-charting album, topped only by 1993's Sound Of White Noise, which hit #7. Anthrax first charted more than 25 years ago (!) with Spreading The Disease. Two bands return to active duty after long layoffs. Primus' first studio album in nearly eight years, Green Naugahyde, bows at #15. Bush's first album in nearly 10 years, The Sea Of Memories, bows at #18. Two acts break through with their latest albums. St. Vincent's third album, Strange Mercy, bows at #19. The female folk artist's sophomore album, Actor, hit #90 in 2009. We Came As Romans' second full-length album, Understanding What We've Grown To Be, bows at #21. The hard rock band's To Plant A Seed reached #175 in 2009. Alice Cooper's Welcome 2 My Nightmare bows at #22. It's Cooper's highest-charting album since 1989's Trash, which hit #20. The new album is a sequel to Cooper's 1975 album Welcome To My Nightmare, which reached #5. That was Cooper's first solo album after the Alice Cooper band disbanded. It spawned his first hit ballad, "Only Women." Universal Studios Hollywood has announced plans to construct an addition based on the albums. The new album is Cooper's first since he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year. Wynton Marsalis & Eric Clapton's Play The Blues opens at #31. This is Marsalis' second collabo to score in the past few years. Two Men With The Blues, a 2008 pairing with Willie Nelson, hit #20. Play The Blues is Clapton's fourth hit collabo since 2000, following albums with B.B. King, J.J. Cale and Steve Winwood. Kristin Chenoweth's Some Lessons Learned bows at #47. This is Chenoweth's first non-holiday album to make the chart. Two "Digipack" releases by Jimi Hendrix enter the chart. Winterland bows at #49. Hendrix In The West arrives at #77. Hendrix died 41 years ago this week. The rock legend has amassed more than 40 chart albums, but this week marks the first time that two have entered the same week. Victorious: Music From The Hit TV Show drops from #41 to #54 in its seventh week. It's the #1 soundtrack for the seventh week. Drive, featuring a score by Cliff Martinez, debuts at #65. It's the top-ranking soundtrack to a theatrically-released movie. A pair of double-disk live albums by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, Nine Tonight and 'Live' Bullet, re-enter the chart at #70 and #89 respectively, due mostly to their long-awaited digital release. Seger still hasn't digitized his studio albums. Kid Rock's Born Free tops the 1 million mark in sales this week. It took 44 weeks to get there, but it got there. It's Mr. Rock's sixth million-selling album. Jackie Evancho's Dream With Me In Concert enters Top Music Videos at #1. This helps makes up for the fact that her first two albums, O Holy Night and Dream With Me, both debuted and peaked at #2 on The Billboard 200. Evancho is 11. She's not even 11-1/2 yet! The Lion King (In 3-D) was #1 at the box-office over the weekend. The movie was #1 for two weekends in early summer 1994 and wound up as that year's #2 grossing hit (behind Forrest Gump). Coming Attractions: Tony Bennett's Duets II may enter The Billboard 200 at #1 next week. Also due: Pearl Jam's Pearl Jam Twenty soundtrack, Gavin DeGraw's Sweeter, Demi Lovato's Unbroken, Tori Amos' Night Of Hunters, Thrice's Major/Minor, Cody Simpson's Coast To Coast EP, Jayhawks' Mockingbird Time, Needtobreathe's The Reckoning, Never Shout Never's Time Travel, Superheavy's Superheavy and Mindless Behavior's #1 Girl.

I believe Maroon 5's album was discounted last week- still, though, the single is selling just fine, but isn't having the same effect on the album.

Very confusing, and a bit useless, feat as it's is not the same as the record of spending time in Top 5 (or even Top 3) overall.

Absolutely fantastic for Alice Cooper btw... He hasn't charted this high since Trash (1989) which featured the Desmond Child -penned smash hit Poison.

Daughtry: 1,000 (-2%)- any ideas why it never lists this album's to-date totals with the initial report?) I'm 99% sure that Brian Mansfield doesn't keep cumulative records, and may not think it's worth the time or effort to look back at his reports from prior weeks. For what it's worth, the last SoundScan number we have for this album was 4,824,077, which includes sales through 08-21-11. With sales reported at 1k for each of the last 4 weeks, that would put it in the neighborhood of 4.828 million.

I'm 99% sure that Brian Mansfield doesn't keep cumulative records, and may not think it's worth the time or effort to look back at his reports from prior weeks. He reports cumulative totals for absolutely every other Idol album and track, except for Daughtry. Hence the poster's question about why the Daughtry totals were always missing.

Yeah, that's the main reason I wondered. In the past, I think he's updated the numbers in later posts, but those initial reports always lack the to-date total.
Speak Now "already" at #50? The album was released 11 months ago. That's pretty decent longevity, especially considering that the album has not spawned a BIG hit at pop radio.

Gilbert wrote or cowrote Jason Aldean's #1 country hits "My Kinda Crazy" and "Dirt Road Anthem" (Gilbert's original versions of both songs are included on this album.) Gilbert's album, which includes his top 20 country hit "Country Must Be Country Wide" enters the Top Country Albums chart at #2. Look for Gilbert to make a quick return to the top 10 on both the pop and country charts. His follow-up album, A Modern Day Prodigal Son, is due Oct. 18. This writer made a mistake. "My Kinda Crazy" IS NOT a Jason Aldean song...there is a song called "My Kinda Crazy" on Brantley's album, but it was written by Brantley and never sung by Jason. "My Kinda Party", the title track to Jason's album, was solely written by Brantley Gilbert...Jason's version of the song peaked at #2 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs, and while Brantley does have his own version of the song, it IS NOT included on the Halfway To Heaven album.

I no longer have a subscription to Billboard so I cannot report on the new RIAA certifications that show up on the new BB200 chart each Thursday.
But, here are some new ones from the RIAA website:
Jason Aldean, My Kinda Party 2xp Jay Z/Kanye West 1xp

Yikes at Femme Fatale dropping 73-117.
Some other albums see their apparent lowest ranks to date- Katy Perry's album plunges 12-38; I gather discounting ceased on the title. But, it's on its 56th week inside the top 40, too.
There are a lot of debuts/re-entries on the chart this week, that alone does not account for some of the large drops.
Stevie Nicks' album sees a nice gain, up 198-161*.

"Mine" was the pop hit for "Speak Now" this era. Sparks Fly doesn't have any adds for pop radio but is doing okay on Country.Hopefully the Live CD/DVD could help pick it up sales during the hoilday season.People who buy Live CD/DVD also will buy Speak Now also equals more sales.

Yes, "Mine" was the pop hit- well, actually "Back to December" reached a similar peak at the format- but neither was big like a "Love Story" or "You Belong with Me." Therefore, the album has held up pretty well. She's had continued country radio success, though, and that has helped sales stay afloat.

Yes Taylor has had success at the country format this era.It is her primary format. "Mean" went to #1 back in the spring on country. This week's position of #50 is the lowest the album has been at on the album charts this era.

Yeah I think femme fatale will continue to fall until about mid October. Same with Katy hoping Katy can get to 2million before year end...at least shipments

From Billboard's Market Watch for this week:
3,732,000 physical albums were sold.
1,849,000 digital albums were sold.
= 5,581,000 albums sold.

Billboard 200 Albums Chart [SoundScan Week Ending September 18, 2011] 14 38 38 26 * EVANCHO*JACKIE DREAM WITH ME 15516 69 9197 473640 I really hate that Billboard doesn't report the full sales of those albums that are Christian/are sold on Christian outlets (even tho I'm not Christian myself). For instance the REAL sales of this album are 490,236 And as of last week Billboard reported that Casting Crown's UTWWH album had sold 297,437, when in reality I have their numbers at 675,776 (and that is with the sales of 30 or more weeks missing; which would give this album like 800,000 or so in total REAL sales). I hate it!!!!
