But it's a 100% piano and voice driven ballad FGS. How can this be?? Until SLY peaks in airplay I can't see it being anywhere near to relinquishing its grip on the Hot100 #1 - LMFAO has actually lost significant ground on it today airplay wise and WFL has only gained 0.257. To be fair LMFAO has stepped it up with regards to sales, though. WFL still trailing by 10%.

^That status, of course, would be debatable, as some may feel others with legendary status and importance could challenge. :) But, of course, Ms. Perry ain't at or near the level of MJ and others regarded as the greats. (same for those with other chart feats/records- I may have said that a "handful" of times before?).

And, indeed- personal viewpoints of a track will have no impact on a track's chart potential. I cannot tell ya how puzzled I am at some of the tracks that shoot up the charts.

Michael Jackson won't be losing much anyway. That would be an immature and pointless reason for going out of your way to sabotage the chart run on another song just to defend a little record. Though what you said is pretty much only theoretical and will never happen.

MJ isn't remembered for his string of 5 number ones from a single album, but for a lot more (better and influential) things. So calm down lol.

Peeps, we know the singles charts often are nothing more than an initial popularity ranking that some record labels play better than others, so I don't know why we get into a discussion of what they mean for the act themselves. They will and do not enhance an act's rep as an artist or anything like that.

"Criminal' is not taking off as "I Wanna Go" did, but it also is not the dance-party sound of the previous three previous singles.
