Now updated through 2010. Anyone bought the new edition yet? www.recordresearch.com/pop/top_pop_singles_1955_2010.phpI think it's cool that they've added bubbling under chart positions in with the regular chart runs of each artist. Wish they gave more pics from inside, as there are a couple of things I'm wondering about. Oh well, I'll probably buy it sometime soon...

Been out since late June. Lots more pictures. Bigger "Text Book" size. Still lumping re-entries together (thus breaking chronological runs). Now includes "Regional" hits.
What next, Songs that made the Pop 100 or mainstream Top 40 but didn't crack the big chart? Peak dates (as opposed to entry dates)?
One must begin to wonder how many more years these things will be churned out in book format.

Oh crap, I was hoping they'd have stopped grouping re-entries together. Seems stupid to have U2 & Mary J Blige version of 'One' from 2006 grouped next to the 1991 original version, as in the sample pics from the 2008 book.
What are they doing with singles sales chart entries? I know they used to list them chronologically with Hot 100 entries, which I disagreed with because singles sales were too low for those chart positions to have any significance.

They weeded the sales entries out a few years ago, never to return. Good policy.

Yah- if a single didn't sell enough to chart on the Hot 100 or Bubbling Under, there's no reason to list them in the book- they had their shot. Hot 100 Airplay entries are needed, because they were forbidden to chart on the Hot 100 at the time.

The peak dates is the hallmark of the companion volume Top Pop Annual, which is being rereleased and updated through the end of 2011. I just purchased my copy, it will be available in late Feb 2012. I have been asking myself how much longer they will continue this format (from 1955 - present), since I bought my first Top Pop Singles Book in 1990.
