www.billboard.com/news#/news/mac-miller-moves-in-at-no-1-on-billboard-1005527962.storyMac Miller Moves In at No. 1 on Billboard 200by Keith Caulfield, L.A. | November 16, 2011 As forecasted, indie rapper Mac Miller's first album, "Blue Slide Park," debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 144,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan. While it didn't shift as much as some industry sources had expected (180,000 was the optimistic projection), he still can lay claim to a pretty cool chart feat: "Blue Slide Park" is the first independently-distributed debut album by an act to hit No. 1 since 1995. The last (and only previous) was Tha Dogg Pound's "Dogg Food." It started in the penthouse on the chart dated Nov. 18, 1995, with 278,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan. "Dogg" was released on Death Row/Interscope, but independently distributed via Priority. "Blue Slide" is a Rostrum Records release, distributed by INgrooves via Fontana Distribution (Universal Music Group Distribution's indie arm). "Blue Slide" is the second indie-distributed No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this year, following Cake's "Showroom of Compassion." The latter arrived atop the tally on the list dated Jan. 29, 2011. Last year, we saw three indie leaders: Vampire Weekend's "Contra," the charity compilation "Hope for Haiti Now" and Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs." Behind Miller is a surging Michael Buble, who sees his "Christmas" album rise 8-2 with 123,000 and a 38% sales gain. It's a new peak for the set, which started at No. 3 two weeks ago. While it's unlikely Buble will hit No. 1 next week (as Drake's "Take Care" should arrive atop the list), expect "Christmas" to perform strongly through the holiday season. The new "Now 40" hits compilation bows at No. 3 this week with 119,000 while the "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1" soundtrack enters at No. 4 with 105,000. The latter should see a gain next week, following the movie's premiere in theaters on Nov. 18. The last "Twilight" soundtrack, "Eclipse," entered the tally on June 26, 2010 at No. 2 with 146,000. The previous "Now" album -- "Now 39" -- debuted and peaked at No. 3 in August with a 110,000 start. All 40 of the traditional "Now" albums have reached the top 10, stretching back to the very first in the series, released in October of 1998, peaked at No. 10. (Some of the acts featured on the first "Now" album included Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, Radiohead, Aqua, Hanson and All Saints.) Rounding out the debuts in the top 10 this week are Aventura's Romeo Santos and Il Divo, who bow "Formula, Vol. 1" and "Wicked Game" at Nos. 9 and 10, respectively. For Santos, his 62,000 launch marks the biggest sales week of any Latin album since way back on June 23, 2007, when Daddy Yankee's "El Cartel: the Big Boss," sold 82,000 in its first week according to Nielsen Soundscan. "Formula" also naturally takes a bow at No. 1 on our Latin Albums chart. Il Divo's "Wicked Game" (61,000) is the fifth top 10 set for the vocal quartet and follows 2008's "The Promise" (No. 5 with 162,000). The new album is named after its cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game," which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1991. Meanwhile, Adele's "21" holds at No. 5 (104,000; down 3%), Justin Bieber's "Under the Mistletoe" falls 1-6 (97,000; down 54%), Susan Boyle's "Someone to Watch Over Me" drops 4-7 (72,000; down 46%) and Coldplay's "Mylo Xyloto" slips 7-8 (70,000; down 32%). Over on the Digital Songs chart, Rihanna's "We Found Love" (featuring Calvin Harris) holds at No. 1, though its down just a bit in sales: 227,000 (down 4%). LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It" also is stationary at No. 2, shifting 195,000 (down 4%). As expected, Taylor Swift collects the three highest debuts on the chart -- and two of them arrive in the top 10. "If This Was a Movie" (No. 3 with 162,000), "Ours" (No. 5 with 148,000) and "Superman" (No. 13 with 91,000) all launch within the top 20. The tunes were released digitally for the first time last week, and were only previously available on the deluxe CD of her "Speak Now" album at Target. David Guetta's "Without You" (featuring Usher) charges 6-4 with 162,000 (up 32%), Adele's "Someone Like You" falls 3-6 (143,000; down 1%) and Flo Rida's "Good Feeling" drops 4-7, despite a gain, with 139,000 (up 5%). Bruno Mars' "It Will Rain" rises 10-8 (130,000; up 34%), Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger" (featuring Christina Aguilera) descends 7-9 (120,000; up less than 1%) and Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" moves 5-10 (117,000; down 5%). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Nov. 13) totaled 6.44 million units, up 4% compared to the sum last week (6.17 million) and up 2% compared to the comparable sales week of 2010 (6.30 million). Year to date album sales stand at 261.90 million, up 3% compared to the same total at this point last year (253.67 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 22.70 million downloads, up 9% compared to last week (20.89 million) and up 7% stacked next to the comparable week of 2010 (21.30 million). Year to date track sales are at 1.08 billion, up 10% compared to the same total at this point last year (978.15 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2010 when: Susan Boyle's "The Gift" held for a second week at No. 1, selling 335,000 (up 5%) while Nos. 2-8 and 10 were all debuts.

Notes: SuBo down just 46% in SoundScan- nice hold. And, of course, year-to-date sales continue to outpace those of 2010.

Interesting that both Mac Miller and Romeo Santos sold a lot less than predicted.

Week Ending Nov. 13, 2011. Albums: From “Donald Trump” to #1By Paul Grein music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/week-ending-nov-13-2011-albums-donald-trump-164832095.html;_ylt=As3kS6hcpqnMVQ73T7072A8PwiUv;_ylu=X3oDMTFkYTZnZmZkBG1pdANNdXNpYyBCbG9nIEluZGV4BHBvcwMxBHNlYwNNZWRpYUJsb2dJbmRleA--;_ylg=X3oDMTFpMm9iMzh1BGludGwDdXMEbGFuZwNlbi11cwRwc3RhaWQDBHBzdGNhdANibG9nBHB0A3NlY3Rpb25z;_ylv=3By Paul Grein | Chart Watch – 20 minutes ago Blue Slide Park, the debut album by 19-year old rapper Mac Miller, enters The Billboard 200 at #1. It's the second debut album by a rap artist to open in the top spot in the past seven weeks (following J. Cole's Cole World: The Sideline Story). This reconfirms that rap fans are among the most active and plugged-in music fans. Miller's strong debut is a triumph of social networking. Miller has a combined 2.7 million followers on Twitter, Facebook and Myspace. The album was preceded by the viral hits "Donald Trump," which has sold 441K copies, and "Knock Knock," which has sold 336K copies. Digital sales accounted for the lion's share of the album's first week sales (109K out of 144K). Blue Slide Park is the fourth album by a teenaged artist to reach #1 so far this year, which makes this the year with the most #1 albums by teenaged artists. Justin Bieber has had two #1 albums this year. Never Say Never—The Remixes hit #1 in February. Under The Mistletoe hit #1 last week. Scotty McCreery's debut album Clear As Day hit #1 five weeks ago. Of these three artists, only Bieber fits the usual mold of a teen idol. Michael Buble's Christmas rebounds from #8 to #2 in its third week. This is its highest ranking to date. Buble's album extends its lead over Justin Bieber's Under The Mistletoe as the best-selling holiday album so far this year. Buble's album has sold 353K copies in three weeks. Bieber's has sold 307K in two. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 soundtrack bows at #4. This is the highest ranking for a soundtrack to a theatrically-released movie since Daft Punk's Tron: Legacy hit #4 in January. This is the fourth album in the Twilight series to reach the top five. It follows Twilight (#1 in 2008), The Twilight Saga: New Moon (#1 in 2009) and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (#2 in 2010). In terms of generating top 10 soundtrack albums, Twilight is one of the most successful movie series in history. It is second only to the Star Wars franchise, which has spawned five top 10 soundtracks: Star Wars (#2 in 1977), The Empire Strikes Back (#4 in 1980), Episode I--The Phantom Menace (#3 in 1999), Episode II: Attack Of The Clones (#6 in 2002) and Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith (#6 in 2005). The Batman franchise is in third place with three top 10 albums: Prince's Batman (#1 in 1989), Batman Forever (#5 in 1995) and Batman & Robin (#5 in 1997). Bruno Mars' "It Will Rain," the key single from the album, will probably break into the top 10 on this week's Hot 100. It's the biggest hit from any of the Twilight soundtracks. It tops Paramore's "Decode" from Twilight, which peaked at #33. Adele's 21, which holds at #5 for the second week, tops 100K in weekly sales for the 24th time. It's the first album to achieve this feat since Usher's Confessions topped 100K in weekly sales 33 times in 2004. Adele pulls ahead of Mariah Carey's The Emancipation Of Mimi, which topped 100K in weekly sales 23 times in 2005. Susan Boyle's Someone To Watch Over Me drops from #4 to #7 in its second week. It fares better in the U.K., where it debuts at #1. It's Boyle's third consecutive #1 in her home country. Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto, which dips from #7 to #8, this week tops Foo Fighters' Wasting Light as the best-selling rock album released in 2011. Mylo Xyloto has sold 622K copies. Wasting Light has sold 608K. One 2010 holdover, Mumford & Sons' Sigh No More, has sold slightly more copies in 2011 (1,282,000) than these two other albums combined. Romeo Santos' solo debut Formula Vol. 1 debuts at #9. Santos is the former leader of the Latin group Aventura, which reached #5 on The Billboard 200 in 2009 with The Last. The first single from Santos' new album, "Promise," featuring Usher, is on the Hot 100. The two stars performed it on last week's Latin Grammy Awards. The album also features contributions from Lil Wayne, Pitbull and George Lopez. Simon Cowell played a key role in the careers of two artists in this week's top 10. He's a judge on Britain's Got Talent, whose 2009 runner-up Susan Boyle remains in the top 10. And he created the pop/opera quartet Il Divo, which debuts in the top 10 with its new album, Wicked Game. Taylor Swift's "If This Was A Movie" and "Ours" enter Hot Digital Songs at #3 and #5, respectively. Will either or both crack the top 10 on the Hot 100? You'll find out later today when we post Chart Watch: Songs. Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 albums. 1. Mac Miller, Blue Slide Park, 144,000. This new entry sold 109K digital copies, which puts it at #1 on Top Digital Albums. Four songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Smile Back," which debuts at #27. (What was the art budget for this cover? $5?) 2. Michael Buble, Christmas, 123,000. The album rebounds from #8 to #2 in its third week. This is its highest ranking to date. Will it become Buble's third #1 album? Stay tuned. 3. Various Artists, Now 40, 119,000. This new entry is the 38th regular installment in this series to debut in the top five. 4. Various Artists, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 soundtrack, 105,000. This new entry is the week's #1 soundtrack, displacing Footloose. Bruno Mars' "It Will Rain" jumps from #10 to #8 on Hot Digital Songs. 5. Adele, 21, 104,000. The former #1 album holds at #5 for the second week in its 38th week on the chart. Five songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Someone Like You," which drops from #3 to #6. 6. Justin Bieber, Under The Mistletoe, 97,000. The former #1 album drops to #6 in its second week. Two songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs. "Mistletoe" jumps from #68 to #62. "Drummer Boy" (featuring Busta Rhymes) drops from #62 to #200. 7. Susan Boyle, Someone To Watch Over Me, 72,000. The album drops from #4 to #7 in its second week. It has sold 203K copies in its first two weeks. 8. Coldplay, Mylo Xyloto, 70,000. The former #1 album dips from #7 to #8 in its third week. Three songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Paradise," which jumps from #24 to #21. 9. Romeo Santos, Formula Vol. 1, 62,000. This new entry is Santos' second top 10 album, counting an album he recorded with his former group, Aventura. "Promise" (featuring Usher) jumps from #193 to #125 on Hot Digital Songs. 10. Il Divo, Wicked Game, 61,000. This new entry is the pop/classical quartet's fifth top 10 album. Il Divo's only album to fall short of the top 10 was its 2005 Christmas album, which peaked at #14. Miranda Lambert's Four The Record drops from #3 to #11. It nonetheless holds at #1 on Top Country Albums for the second week. Four other albums drop out of the top 10. Wale's Ambition drops from #2 to #15, Florence + the Machine's Ceremonials drops from #6 to #12, Tyrese's Open Invitation drops from #9 to #18, and Kelly Clarkson's Stronger drops from #10 to #19. Disturbed's The Lost Children, a compilation of B sides, bows at #13. The band's last four studio albums all reached #1…Tech N9ne's Welcome To Strangeland bows at #21. This snaps a string of five straight top 20 albums. Noel Gallagher's solo debut, High Flying Birds, debuts at #28. This is about on par with the debut in March of the first album by Gallagher's former Oasis colleagues Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer and Andy Bell. Those musicians, under the band name Beady Eye, debuted at #31 with Different Gear, Still Speeding. (That album collapsed after its so-so debut and has sold just 29K copies to date.) Oasis reached its chart peak in August 1997 when Be Here Now debuted at #2. Pink Floyd's 1975 chart-topper, Wish You Were Here, re-enters the chart at #33. It's #1 on Top Catalog Albums, dethroning Adele's 19. This is the first time that Wish You Were Here has topped the catalog chart. All three of Pink Floyd's #1 albums that were released in the 1970s have topped this chart. The Dark Side Of The Moon has spent 22 weeks at #1 on the catalog chart, most recently just six weeks ago. The Wall spent one week on top in 1994. Both of these other albums are climbing The Billboard 200 this week. Dark Side jumps from #111 to #95. The Wall jumps from #186 to #164. Keith Sweat's In The Morning bows at #38. The R&B star first cracked the top 40 in February 1988 with his debut album, Make It Last Forever. Immortals was #1 at the box-office over the weekend. The soundtrack, featuring Trevor Morris' score, didn't sell enough copies to crack The Billboard 200. Rush's Time Machine 2011 enters Top Music Videos at #1, with first-week sales of 22K. That's the highest weekly sales tally for a music video so far this year. This is Rush's fifth #1 on Top Music Videos. It follows Rush In Rio (one week on top in 2003), Replay X 3 (one week in 2006), Snakes And Arrows (one week in 2006) and Beyond The Lighted Stage (10 weeks in 2010). Coming Attractions: Drake's Take Care is expected to be next week's top new entry. Also due: Glee: The Music: The Christmas Album, Volume 2, Andrea Bocelli's Concerto One Night In Central Park, Alvin and the Chipmunk's Chipwrecked, Webbie's Savage Life 3, Gym Class Heroes' The Papercut Chronicles II, Frank Sinatra's Best Of The Best, Childish Gambino's Camp, Ozzy Osbourne's God Bless and The Who's Quadrophenia.

She's going for Usher's record. Tbh, if 21 was released in 2004, it will beat Usher's Confessions easily. I love both album tho

Ya she'll be over 100k til New Years and get another week during the Grammys but beyond that I don't know. If she managed to do 100k during January that'd be really impressive.

So I don't think 33 weeks is all that much of a possibility, but considering how much worse off the albums market is this days, the 29 or so that she'll end up with is a massive accomplishment.

I think Adele will end up with 31 weeks:100k+ weeks until the Billboard week dated January 7th in addition to one 100k+ week during the week after the Grammys.

Usher doesn't have a record. They're saying he's the last artist to do better than Adele.
Alanis Morissette and Shania Twain both spent over a year selling 100k+ per week.

I have a question about year end soundscan sales.
The sales week ends on Sunday so this year has 6 full weeks left (Nov 20, 27. Dec 4, 11, 18, 25). However, 6 out of 7 of the sales week ending Jan 1 would fall in the year 2011.
Will they somehow divide this week up for their year end totals, or will the whole week fall into 2011 giving us 7 weeks of sales left this year instead of 6, or do they just push the whole week back into 2012 even though only the last day is 2012?

No, SoundScan doesn't split the week up. All 7 days of the Week Ending Jan 1 will count towards 2011. It's always given to the year that has the majority of days. 2011 has 6 days so it gets the week. Years with a 4/3 split tend to be the 53 week years. 1993, 1998, 2004 and 2009 were 53 week SoundScan years. The next will be 2015.

Impressive that Scotty McCreery has sold 465k before the official holiday season begins.
Gaga needs some serious promo. It'd really help if she performed at the AMAs.

Stefani Gaga needs promo? Really? Even if she's not appearing or performing somewhere, she's still not far from music fans' radar, I'm sure. :)
Her label is working "Marry the Night" at radio- and that is the first step of vital promotion. The second one will be the video.

And I bet she has some public appearances scheduled for December.
At the moment she's in the UK doing some great promo.

What happened to Gaga is no big single and an influx of Holiday albums.
She has a Thanksgiving special next week and the Grammy concert the week after that.

Album sales for artists whose weekly totals include Christian retailers but are missing from the overall totals:
ARTIST - ALBUM - RECORDED TOTAL (WEEKLY SUM TOTAL) SUSAN BOYLE - SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME - 202677 (204182) CASTING CROWNS - COME TO THE WELL - 75996 (166608) POSITIVELY CHRISTMAS - 0 (21448)
I haven't been tracking JOSH GROBAN - NOEL but it looks like it's missing a couple hundred from last week's total, which could represent a hundred thousand or more in lost sales if that 2.5% can be reliably extrapolated.
Also in the four weeks I've been tracking SKILLET - AWAKE has been missing about 10% of its sales from the recorded totals, suggesting that they could be over 700000 in total sales by now.

That's right- A Very Gaga Thanksgiving. Primetime viewing on the broadcast networks is terrible on the night before and day of T-giving, but the show doesn't need to be a ratings smash to boost the numbers some. In any event, sales would increase anyway with the holiday shopping season kicking off.
But, "no big single" makes it sound like her most recent single tanked. "You and I" was top 10 at pop and Hot AC (and top 10 on the Hot 100 for several weeks). It may not have performed like some of her other singles, but it did fine.

Top Catalog Albums 19 104 128 175 DION*CELINE LET'S TALK ABOUT LOVE 1666 -3 1714 9524325 Any particular reason why this CD of hers is the one still selling and not either of her greatest hits albums?

^It's been priced at $5 or so at outlets like Walmart and Best Buy. So, that could be incentive.

6,439,000 albums were sold last week in the USA.
2,026,00 were digital albums.

^Thanks for posting the breakdown. CDs accounted for 68.5% of all album sales last week; the prior week, they accounted for almost 66.6% of all album sales. Part of that could be consumers preferring to pick up holiday music on CD rather than digital.

She's been all over the place. Lol. She needs a hit that's gonna sell that album. Her last 2 didn't really do anything for her.
