Next single goes to radio the week of December 11 from Billboard.biz. I had honestly intended to pick up Lulu by now, but I haven't heard this. I hope it resonates a little more than "The View."

Havn't heard it. Don't want to and I predict it'll be a flop.

I misread that at first and thought you wrote that he was f**king a table. *slowly slinks away*

Well let's not ignore that possibility. He very well might be.

I think we can all agree with a certain tweet I found on the subject of this:
"Is it just me, or did Lou Reed play a fiendishly clever joke on Metallica?"

Better than "The View," but still just as uncomfortable to listen to.

It's one of the best songs on the album, and that's not a backhanded insult. It's one of the more straightforward songs, and despite the fact that a 69-year-old Lou Reed doesn't belong with a metal band, he sounds a lot more natural on this song. This one doesn't have James on vocals iirc.
Despite being 19 minutes long, "Junior Dad" is a really great song. Musically, it's much more in a vibe that fits Lou Reed and the drone at the end can be a pretty nice touch.
I'm not at all surprised about the backlash of Lulu and can sort of understand why, but I really don't think it was a total failure.

The album has recieved almost universal hatred, the only people who actually like it are those who think it's got a deeper meaning (beyond the shitty music and lyrics) that no one gets. Kinda like Rebecca Black's friday...

Kinda like Rebecca Black's friday... First off, does anyone really think there's a deeper meaning to that song? Because that would blow my mind. Second off, I don't think we need to be that insulting or disrespectful to both Metallica and Lou Reed. Was this album a failure? Sure, it was, but I don't think it's because it was totally godawful, just because the two compenents don't really mesh well together. It was an interesting experiment, kind of like Chris Cornell's pop album a couple years back. It was an honest attempt to do something different, and it just didn't work out for the best.

It's an artistic and commercial failure.

It's an artistic and commercial failure. To the contrary, I think it provides excellent insight into James Hetfield's fragile state of mind. The man is a table. No one can take that away from him.

I don't know if I've just had bad luck, but I've had the misfortune to run into several people who genuinely think the song is both amazing and has deep meaning. That said Lulu may have a "deeper meaning" but that dosn't excuse it from being unlistenible and bad. Artists are welcome to experiment, hell I support Linkin park's decision to essentially swap genres with "thousand sons" or Korn's new dupmetal album even though in LP's case I didn't enjoy much of the final Product. There is however (or should be) a differance between experimentation however out there and terrible music that should never have been released. We all knew that Lulu was going going to be differant, but we expected something more then a half assed effort to make and produce it. By the way I found your last comment halerious. Touche.

True. Sometimes I honestly don't know what's going through his head lately. Although they are working on the next album for their band, so that's a good thing.

I'm just happy that this song is pretty good compared to "The View," and I hope it gets its shot.

I can't honestly say I've followed this album or the hatred for it all, in fact if I'm completely honest, I've been slightly disillusioned lately with music overall. Just recently have I started to look for the hidden treasures that lie out there....that being said.
In the live version, posted here that I just listened to for the first time, I think the biggest problem with it is that it sounds like a drunk guy singing karaoke and he can't keep the actual rhythm of the song. Personally i actually like the music of the song but the singing is so distracting i'm waiting to politely applaud that the song is over.

I can't say I like this song, but I will say that it seems closer to what they were hoping to accomplish with the collaboration than "The View". I haven't sought out anything else, and unless I want an uncomfortable chortle, I probably won't.

Lou Reed to me is probably one of the most overrated musicians out there. He only gets his due because he's one of the few members of that generation that didn't kick the bucket.
