Dropper:
From #20: Who Am I/Casting Crowns
Jeremy Camp remains locked in at number one for a fourth week. But how much longer can he stay on top.
As his former competitors continue to weaken, new competitors are closing in on him. "Beautiful One" by the group By The Tree, after being stuck at number four for a few weeks, manage to push ahead one spot. And Chris Tomlin could also have a chance. Even MercyMe returning to the top isn't out of the question, as Jon remarked as he went into that song.
We all figured that the song "Glory Defined" by Building 429, was done when it stepped off the chart last week, but this week it makes a surprising encore at the bottom rung, thus adding to what is already an impressive total of points. Could they be doing this to ensure grabbing top honors of the year?
The biggest mover of the week, "Alive In Love" by The Swift has had a peculiar chart run. Back in mid-August, it debuted at number 20 and then disappeared from the chart for a few weeks. Then four weeks ago, it made a sudden return at number twelve and then fell back to #13 for a pair of weeks. This week, it breaks into the Top Ten in a big way, up five spots. How will they do in weeks to come? Only time will tell.
The song that exits the top ten is also the biggest dropper on the chart. Steven Curtis Chapman's "All Things New" falls four spots to number thirteen. He seems to be losing his touch. Just a few years ago, whenever he put out a new song, it was pretty much a given that it would go to number one. But his past few songs have fallen short of the mark. But he is still hitting the Top Ten and that is great. "All Things New" has also racked up sixteen weeks on the chart so far.
"King" by Tree63 is still stuck at number fifteen, but there might be hope yet. As "Blessed Be Your Name" is on its way down to chart (meeting face to face with its follow-up), that means it's being played less, allowing for "King" to gain more airplay. We'll have to see how it fares in weeks to come.
Speaking of "Blessed Be Your Name", this week it breaks the record for most weeks on the chart. But Jon didn't mention that this week (just that the two songs by Tree63 were back to back on the countdown). Maybe he'll do that during the last week on the chart for the song. Or maybe not; we'll see in due time, I'm sure.
Jeff Deyo continues to ride the chart rollercoaster. Ever since "As I Lift You Up" debuted, it's been bouncing up and down between numbers eleven and fourteen. However, with no real competition below him, he might finally break free from that range and hit the Top Ten.
"Beauty Of Simplicity" appears to have suffered from "Leaving 99 Syndrome" by riding high on the chart initially, being dropped suddenly, and never really recovering. This happened to another one of my faves from this year "Letters From War" by Mark Schultz. So it seemed that this only happened with my favorite songs. But not this time. Even though I think "Beauty Of Simplicity" is a pretty good song, it's not one of my favorites, so I guess third time's a charm.
Michael W. Smith continues to move up the chart slowly but surely. It's at number seven this week and could eventually take over the top spot, if it can rise above the competition.
