It has been gaining spins back for the past few weeks, most likely. It was purged a few months ago not too long after the song came out. Well, since then it's become quite the hit on the different rock formats and has sold decently, so I guess pop stations are finally taking notice and picking it back up. It should also be noted that "Princess of China" was being supported at pop over "Paradise," which explains why pop radio didn't take notice of how well "Paradise" has been doing.

A similar event happened about 16 months ago with Cee Lo Green's "Forget You." That song had been charting on pop in late fall 2010 and went on to peak at number 16. But it didn't fare well longevity wise and ended up getting purged after only nine weeks inside the top 40. However, it was later used on Glee after being purged, helping its digital sales a lot. Then it got several Grammy nominations, causing more hype in the song. Pop radio took notice of how well it was suddenly doing again and started playing it again. Mediabase decided to go ahead and let it return to the chart, where it eventually went on to peak at, of course, number 1 about a year ago. (You can see it all here.)

I'm sure there have been a handful of similar cases, but "Forget You" is the only one that really sticks out in my mind because when it returned, it came back with a vengeance. And Mediabase actually hasn't been purging songs for very long. I know back in 2006, songs were never purged. When they fell out of the top 40, they just kept falling. Purging has actually only been around since I think late 2007. So, it's rare for a song to return from being purged. So it's really cool when it happens.

That was given a conscious push though; Paradise was probably put back mainly because it saw an upward trend big enough to put it back in the top 50. Whether that will lead to something more, is debatable.

As for Mediabase, I'm keeping an eye on that. I hope they sort it within the hour.

Ugh part of the reason that "Eyes Open" is losing spins is probably that so many stations insisted on playing that shitty movie-linked version of it.

Had they been playing the regular version the whole time, there'd be more interest in the song.

As for purges, "Naked" seems to be the only one in danger. "Live My Life," the only other song below #40 with downward trend in spins, has never reached the Top 40 if I recall correctly, therefore it shouldn't be purged. So, if "Naked" does become purged, Madonna will be back in the Top 40, and "Turn All the Lights On," "Fine By Me," "For You," "Tongue Tied," and "Hit the Lights" all have a shot of being sucked into that #50 spot.
