"See You Again" has been gaining fast enough that it's looking very probable that it will be #1 by Sunday. If "Earned It" can hang on for a second week, it will be by an extremely narrow margin. I'd like to see "Shut Up And Dance" to get to #1, but it's looking more and more like it's going to get shut out. "See You Again" is just too darn strong.

How long is it looking SYA will reign for? I'd say...no less than 5-6 weeks. Can anyone think of a post-1994 song that soared to #1 in just its 6th week in the Top 40 or sooner, and didn't go on to spend even that long at the top? The lowest I can think of is "Roar", which got there in its 5th week, and spent 5 on top. A few weeks ago it looked like "Outside" wouldn't make it to recurrency but at this rate it might just have what it takes to hang on until next week.
Also, Derulo has really inched up behind Walk the Moon. They need to increase the gap again.

Looks like "Lay Me Down" will be purged tomorrow night. I liked both of Sam's other hits, but this one, I really can't stand. I really like the song but it was a big big mistake. He has some upbeat songs in his album (not many but at least a couple of them) and it was pretty obvious and upbeat song was the clear choice after two ballads. At first i thought he chose LMD because he was uncomfortable singing an upbeat song at the Grammys, but when he sang SWM, that didn't make sense. We''ll see if they didn't kill his momentum. LMD was not a flop, it was top 10 on the hot 100 and top 20 in a lot of formats (but it failed to reach top 10 in any). Curiously it was streams and not sales or airplay what made to song have a good chart run at the hot 100. Now LIC starts from zero, the song is very low on itunes, he is ill and can't perform at the billboard music awards, so he depends of radio airplay to make the song a hit (a song that could be a hit for sure if it was released at the third single). And for him it's more important that it seems, it's true that his album is still selling at good rhythm, so even with a flop it would be a lot of good buzz for his second album, but and upbeat hit will avoid the one trick pony syndrome (or course he has his dance collaborations) and it will be easier the path of the first single of the second album if he doesn't chose a ballad (his album was pretty safe, and that's understable for a new artist who doesn't seem to marketable at first sight but some of his previous songs were less safe and it seems logical that he chose a different, at least slightly different, path for his second album) |

Not in this thread, but I did mention it. Any song that managed to gain audience with the re-calibration did rather well today IMO (save M5, they had nowhere to go but up so gains were expected). |

At least it gaves room for Like i can, because with his illness he needs to rely on airplay to make the song a hit (and LMD is doing better on streams than on airplay and sales, given his previous hits that's a surprise) |
