I think there could have been a panel change on Friday. The updates on Friday were pretty weird, so I'd reckon something panel-related went on there. It looks like we lost one station, bringing us down to a total of 188. ETA: Not sure what station, but it seems to have been HAC-leaning.

According to this: pulsemusic.proboards.com/thread/137808/date-mediabase-published-panel We have 192 stations as of January 22nd, so I don't know for sure what is going on.

Hmm, maybe I just had the number wrong, I was going from the last number I remember hearing. I still think we lost one station though.

Zara Larsson updates are insane and quite weird for a song of a newbie that is in the low part of itunes top 100. If she doesn't have a radio deal it's really weird. The funny thing is Lush life is exploding everywhere now, months and months after its release Lush Life was actually just released a few weeks ago in the UK. I'm really hoping it can somehow become a big hit here afterwards somehow even though it seems unlikely at this point...

I don't understand why Thomas Rhett let Nelly release a cover of his song when the original is doing well on hot ac and has crossover potential

Because for many artists it's not about the charts.

Because for many artists it's not about the charts. It still doesn't make sense. Thomas is being critizied for not being country enough. Till now that didn't affect his performances on the country chart but it seems a good idea try to appeal to other audiences. The song sold a lot for a good while, and it's doing well on hot ac which gives him the posibility of getting his first pop hit. And Nelly is not a household name anymore, so his version has not a lot more chances to becoming a hit than the original

You're tunnel visioned on radio charts.

Sure seems like there's some tension over Nelly's version also getting sent to pop. The discussion in that thread came up with the theory that they approved the cover and releasing it for Rhythmic, but were not expecting a pop release as well, or something along those lines.

It still doesn't make sense. Thomas is being critizied And Nelly is not a household name anymore, so his version has not a lot more chances to becoming a hit than the original Nelly is still quite popular. Not many rappers from 2000 are still getting a pop hit in 2016. I don't think he's really quite so popular anymore as he's simply just cemented a legacy for himself. Hits like "Ride Wit Me", "Hot In Herre" and "Dilemma" are still very well known, and he has multiple other big hits to name as well, so he's essentially become one of those artists that will always see at least moderate success at this point if the material is solid enough (ie. "The Fix"). Now that said, I'm not sure how well this will do. Nelly's version feels a little ingenuine and a lot of people are already familiar with Thomas' version. So at most, I see maybe a Top 30 peak, similar to "The Fix", and Sam Hunt's "Take Your Time". But if Thomas' version also ends up on the chart, they'll either just cannibalize each other or Thomas' version will power through.

Do you guys think My House will be the next #1 after Stressed Out? Its gains lately make a strong case for it...

You're tunnel visioned on radio charts. And again, no. I can't see no reason why an artist with a current hit let another cover his song. We are not talking about an old hit, we are talking about a hit that's on the radio right now. Thomas Rhett is not an obscure experimental indie artist, he is a successful country singer, with a good bunch of hits (even when the first tries failed). Making this a crossover to pop will give the song a new life on the hot 100 too. For me is as absurd as a new R&B singer letting Beyonce or Rihanna cover his/her song after being a big hit on Urban, just because they have a better chance on making the song a hit on pop And yes, i know Nelly is still alive and kicking but Just a dream was five and a half years ago and since then he never reached top 25 again (with the exception of Cruise, but he was a featured artist)

You keep going back to chart stats. "Hit", "hits", "crossover", "hit", I don't know the situation at all but generally speaking, they could be friends. They could be planning a tour together. Thomas could be a longtime fan of Nelly and heard Nelly liked his song and suggested he record it for fun. There are countless reasons why such a thing could happen and most are beyond the scope of 'charts'.
Plus, back in the mid 90s, All-4-One covered a few current/recent singles by John Michael Montgomery that were hits for both on their respective formats. It's not like it's never happened before. The part someone mentioned above about Nelly's song going to pop being an issue, however, that might help with some of the background here. Maybe Thomas isn't okay with it.

Do you guys think My House will be the next #1 after Stressed Out? Its gains lately make a strong case for it... The only way it misses it is if it brickwalls HARD and allows Selena to lap it. But if you're all the way down at #5 and still the highest song with a healthy bullet, it's almost unthinkable ALL those spins are going to tumble behind you. The vacuum will suck Flo into #1 in a few weeks.

But John Michael Montgomery never tried to make his country hit songs become pop hit songs (and most country singers have a twang problem to start with). If Thomas Rhett had no intention to make his song a pop hit there's no reason to release the song to hot ac. The song was number one on country already. If they were friends, Nelly could cover any other previous hit (Crash and burn could perfectly work on pop) but not the current one, or release it as a duet (that's somethign Thomas could benefit) And you keep coming with my mention of hits, but this is a pop radio charts forum, and frankly i don't think Nelly is releasing the song for artistry issues anyway. He liked the song, thought it has potential (the song already sold a lot) and released it

I responded with a context that goes beyond charts because, as I said before, some artists make decisions beyond charts and radio and singles. That's all. Saying this is a radio charts forum isn't beyond me. I'm perfectly well aware. I'm simply giving a response that goes beyond it. It's actually not that difficult to comprehend, even though you just hit the nail on the head: "He liked the song, thought it had potential and released it." Maybe it's actually that simple.

When you say "why did Thomas Rhett let Nelly record this..." keep in mind that Rhett doesn't have to "let" Nelly record the song. Nelly could record it and as long as the writers get their portion of the sales proceeds, Thomas Rhett could have little to no say in it. Courts have ruled that artists don't have to have permission to do cover songs (as long as they credit the writers of the original and those folks get their share of the profits). This actually happens a lot (search any popular song on iTunes and you're sure to get a bunch of cover versions), it's just in this instance the cover version is by someone who has name recognition.

This actually happens a lot (search any popular song on iTunes and you're sure to get a bunch of cover versions), it's just in this instance the cover version is by someone who has name recognition. Which makes all the difference, because it makes way more difficult to the original artist to get airplay on pop stations. I remember a case in the 90's when italian singer Double U released a cover (and that's the main difference) of Please don't go. When the song started to get success in europe KWS released their own version (which was basically the same but with worse vocals) and released first in UK. And then that was the version that was released in the USA too. I'm pretty sure Nelly has all the right to do that, but i have the right to not like it

Finally, Bieber has fallen out of #1! Congratulations Twenty One Pilots on your first Pop #1! I know it's not official yet, but it will be.

And how unfortunate that will be. It just doesn't sound like a number one to me but who am I to say.

Sounds like a number one to me. It feels much more like a pop song to me than Low
