Poor guy, he can't catch a break. All his singles stay for a good while on itunes top 10, but on radio the story is different.
Zayn, Rihanna and Mike will pass him for sure, Ellie's singles reacted in time to avoid the brick wall but i don't know yet how far the song will go (anyway, Ellie always get deep into the pop chart even with songs that didn't reach top 10 on the hot 100).

And about Flo Rida, it's more of the same. Flo Rida is able to have tons of forgettable hits which has merit on its own

I think what you're noticing is that it sounds "different" from other #1's. Frankly, that's a good thing. It's nice that unusual sounds can catch enough traction to conquer the chart, even if only occasionally.

That's not what I'm saying at all. I actually really like the beat. I just don't like anything else about it. And trust me, I'm the first to enjoy the sound of diversity on this chart. I'm just surprised by its success when I find it to be such a non-event, but I'm not the be all end all of musical opinion. I just don't feel its on par with previous number ones. That's all.

The recurrent chart looks kind of odd right now. Is there any particular reason that most recurrents have either a bullet or a very small loss? Other than "Here" and "Same Old Love," the biggest loss in the top 100 belongs to "On My Mind" with a -460.

Yes, that was very surprising too. In fact he not only had a great first day, the song climbed very fast till hitting a brick wall at top 10. There was more hype around Ed than 5th harmony because his album sold way more, but it was very surprising at the time too
