I wouldn't be surprised to see Don't Let Me Down jump over Work From Home to grab #1 and then out of nowhere, DLMD collapses in spins while WFH skyrockets in spins to get #1.

The Mediabase country chart is pretty much completely controlled and manufactured by the labels in Nashville. Mediabase ranks all formats by spins, but for some reason they rank the country chart by a points system, the formula for which isn't public. We do know that it's a combination of points and audience, and then each station is assigned a weight.

There's a new #1 almost every Sunday, and labels do "max spins" push weeks that can often result in a ridiculous 7-day bullet as a song ascends to #1. But the radio stations don't seem to care. They go along with the labels' plans. Songs can last 40-50 weeks and then suddenly see a huge week and surge to #1, and then plummet the week after. There's so much starting and stopping -- songs speeding up and slowing down so that they can sit in the #2 or #3 spot and wait out the current #1, and then speed up again. It's not organic at all. I don't necessarily think the labels are trading cash for airplay, but they're definitely trading other things (concert tickets, meet and greets, etc. are given to stations in exchange for airplay).

The Mediabase country chart is a joke, in my opinion, and that's why most of us in the country forum primarily follow the Billboard Country Airplay chart, as it is an audience-based chart and is much harder to manipulate. The co-hosting schedule for Country Countdown USA is basically a dead giveaway for the order of #1 songs at Mediabase. At least on Billboard we occasionally see a few 2-week and 3-week #1 hits.

Couldn't have said it better myself. However, based on the things nick64 was talking about in the last page of this thread, do you think the pop chart is also becoming manufactured? There's a lot of signs showing it is becoming so, but I still have a tiny silver of hope that the pop chart isn't becoming rigged...

If you're putting the blame fo chart manipulation on the corporate owners of radio station chains, that's not quite analogous to the situation on the country chart. Poster jhomes87 put the onus on the labels for the turn-taking #1s there.

Well, it's really all of Nashville/Music Row that's to blame, actually. The labels definitely push radio around quite a bit, but radio could say "no" if they wanted to. They don't have to give a label's song airplay whenever the label asks for it. After all, it's a label's job to promote their music and it's radio's job to play the hits, but really, everybody on Music Row is guilty of turning the Mediabase country chart into a laughingstock. It's just so manufactured. I've been watching the charts day-in and day-out since 2010 and when you've been watching the country chart that long, it becomes pretty obvious that it's dictated by the labels but also by radio, including Cumulus as well as Clear Channel. The big corporations have way too much influence...it's almost as if they allow some songs to become hits, but stifle others and never give them a chance. And guess who owns Mediabase? Clear Channel.......

the original question asked though whether Drake will be #1 BEFORE Justin and in your scenario he is #1 AFTER him, so technically that would confirm my answer I can see that happening as well

SIDE NOTE: is it possible that we're going to see a Shake It Off/Black Widow situation wth ITAPII/7 Years? I would be happy to see ITAPII get another week at #1 (since 7 Years already got a week). It is entirely possible if today's updates continue
