Would Xtina be able to have 2 Top 40s at the same time? :o Both songs are cool, but would prefer if FTM had not climbed this high until next month to leave some room for JLAF to go higher.

My logic is that it rose at a fast speed in a climate where songs like it would climb slowly. "Why Ya Wanna" took FOREVER to get to its peak. So, I'm not sure what you're trying to get at. So? Gretchen Wilson's debut single "Redneck Woman" ascended even faster out of the gate upon its release to the top of the Country songs chart in 2004. Yet, I certainly don't see the fact it didn't take its sweet time moving up the chart guarantee it any mainstream airplay. Fair enough! Care to explain to me, then, why Miranda Lambert's most fervently-regarded, yet gently understated, ballad "The House That Built Me" didn't become a crossover hit then? ;) The lyrical content of "Merry Go 'Round" is equally as relevant now, if not even more so, than it would have been in light of the late Victorian Age. You choose interesting artists to reinforce your argument on what can be embraced lyrically at this format. Adele, as much as I love her, is hardly a departure from the tried-and-true themes of romantic love and the tragedy of heartbreak. Gotye's hit was essentially just another over-the-top, whiny breakup song, perhaps made slightly more interesting than the rest of the crop because of Kimbra representing the standpoint of the female in the relationship briefly. I love "Some Nights", but "We Are Young" was just another "Let's party and set the night on fire!" kind of song topically-speaking. And so forth. Hardly a lyrical revolution there! ;) Agree to disagree, I guess, but I think you're 100% wrong. ;) I see your 100%, and I raise you 110%! (makes stone cold poker stare your direction! ) Let's make a wager! You win, and I'll drink the algae from my pond! ;) Namaste, Noah Hibiscus Eaton Oh please, Red neck woman is a very funny song but it's country country country. It's like Stuck like glue, Jennifer Nettles vocals are stellar and the song is very fun, but her twang is simply too country for pop charts. About Miranda, i know people loved that song (it's not my case) but i don't even know if it was pushed on pop. The lack of adds day it's what prevented Blown away to be top 50 on pop, in fact i think Carrie can get a couple of top 50 hits if they really wanted to try on pop. Merry go round has a very different sound from most country songs, in fact the instrumentation is not that far from the like of Home or i will wait. The lyrics are more destined to country than pop, that's for sure, but i don't think that's a problem (well, a lot of songs charting on pop are not exactly poetry). In fact people are surprised that the song is so high on country chart, specially for a debut song from a female singer. Why you wanna took ages to get that high. And even the latest crossover, Wanted, had a very very long road to the top, even when Hunter Hayes had a medium hit with Storm warning. It will be a top 50 hit? i don't know. I depends of a lot of things, but i wasn't saying that it will be a top 50 pop hit, i was saying that i want it to be a top 50 pop hit wich is very different

FLO RIDA I Cry* PHILLIP PHILLIPS Home* ED SHEERAN The A Team* SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA Don't You Worry Child* ONE DIRECTION Little Things* THE SCRIPT Hall Of Fame f/will.i.am* KELLY CLARKSON Catch My Breath* IMAGINE DRAGONS It's Time* HUNTER HAYES Wanted* CHRIS WALLACE Remember When (Push Rewind)* I think the freeze will probably end up killing maybe half of the songs from this group. (Only looked at the Top 30; too hard to predict what will get killed down below.) Most others look like they should be able to survive it. Well, the freeze is over. "Home" might be dead, but all the others look fine

Au$tin I just noticed you listed Secret State and Camryn as top 50 debuts yesterday, they're re-entries. They made top 50 on the December 16th chart. ;)

Oh please, Red neck woman is a very funny song but it's country country country. It's like Stuck like glue, Jennifer Nettles vocals are stellar and the song is very fun, but her twang is simply too country for pop charts. Whatever "country country country" means! ;) The point is, that too was a debut single from a female artist, that stormed out of the gate faster than Musgraves' current release is.........and it didn't ensure it any crossover airplay. As with virtually all other female country artists (or males, for that matter). It's funny you mention "Stuck Like Glue", by the way. It's true it was mismanaged at this format, but that successfully made the Top Twenty at Adult Top 40 radio! ;) About Miranda, i know people loved that song (it's not my case) but i don't even know if it was pushed on pop. The lack of adds day it's what prevented Blown away to be top 50 on pop, in fact i think Carrie can get a couple of top 50 hits if they really wanted to try on pop. Shouldn't stop some more rebellious stations to give it unsolicited plays and attention though, right? ;) With regards to "Blown Away", I agree it sounds like a crossover release because it is driven by the same kind of beat you hear in four-on-the-floors. I can easily being "Blown Away" being remixed ever slightly for the clubs. The reason why "Blown Away" failed to, in my opinion, is again because of the dark lyrics. Abuse and alcoholism, in which her family is ultimately freed from upon a tornado hitting their house and killing him, but still leaving behind an anguish that will never fully mend. Yeah, I can certainly see "tweens" waving glow sticks to that and drinking Grey Goose! ;) Merry go round has a very different sound from most country songs, in fact the instrumentation is not that far from the like of Home or i will wait. The lyrics are more destined to country than pop, that's for sure, but i don't think that's a problem (well, a lot of songs charting on pop are not exactly poetry). You sure got that last point right! ;) In fact people are surprised that the song is so high on country chart, specially for a debut song from a female singer. Why you wanna took ages to get that high. And even the latest crossover, Wanted, had a very very long road to the top, even when Hunter Hayes had a medium hit with Storm warning. That doesn't at all diminish the fact that "Why Ya Wanna" peaked so high for a debut song from a female artist, yes? ;) A single's pace up any given format's chart does NOT guarantee the release anything with regards to longer-term crossover prospects. It will be a top 50 hit? i don't know. I depends of a lot of things, but i wasn't saying that it will be a top 50 pop hit, i was saying that i want it to be a top 50 pop hit wich is very different It won't! ;) Namaste, Noah Hibiscus Eaton

"Blown Away" didn't do anything because it had zero pop promotion, not because of the subject matter in the song.

Austin, it's 2013. I changed it in three spots at least. Fixed. I love that everyone seems to be backing me up here on Kacey. You just can't compare her song to "Redneck Woman." I mean, "Redneck Woman" is freaking called " Redneck Woman"! Pop wouldn't touch that with a fifty foot poll. "Merry Go 'Round" is a MUCH different song. You also can't say this won't do anything because of its subject matter and cite a song that never was released to pop radio to begin with. Carrie does decently on this format. She reached the mid 50s and mid 60s with songs like "So Small," "Last Name," and even "Cowboy Casanova." I believe "Blown Away" got into the top 100 as well, but pop radio is starting to get used to the fact that Carrie is not looking for crossover hits, so they kind of don't want to support her then. If you want to look at songs that both sounds different from what pop plays and have odd subject matters, than look no further than what two songs are currently sitting at numbers 11 and 13 on the Sunday update. "Try" is a pop/rock ballad with heavy 80s rock undertones. It's about an abusive relationship. "The A Team" is straight up indie folk with some soul influence. It's about homeless people and the effects of drug abuse. "Merry Go 'Round" is a country song with singer/songwriter vibes and some AAA undertones. It's a satirical view on American life in the 50s. I really don't see how these three songs are any more shocking for pop's playlists than the others. (Except maybe P!nk because of her trackrecord.) But I guess we'll have our answer soon enough to who's right and who's wrong. ;)
The January Meltdown has begun!!!!! Bruno regains a tiny bullet, but will unlikely beat his peak, since he'll probably start losing spins in the second half of the week. The Lumineers return to rocketing up to #1, and are likely to take it as soon as this Sunday! Though, if they miss it, they'll definitely get it next Sunday. Flo Rida also regains his bullet, though I feel he'll start losing spins in the second half of the week. It's clear Rihanna is done. Bieber and Swift both have huge gains today, and both are poised to gain nearly, or above 400 spins tomorrow. "Girl on Fire" continues its impressive increases. Shocking devlopments below the top 20! "C'Mon" continues its rocket-like climb. "Rest of My Life" gains nearly 200 spins. Check out The Ready Set and Chris Wallace! :o "I Will Wait" is coming quickly! :o

I love seeing so many desperate for ANY female artist to crossover drink the Kool-Aid at the singular sight of promising chart success! ;) Let's take a stroll down Memory Lane here, for a moment. After I argued "Merry Go 'Round" had virtually zero chance of crossing over, you said the following yesterday: False. It's increased on country radio at an incredibly fast rate. For any song in general! Not to mention that it's by a female AND it's a female's debut single. The song has well over 1,000 weekly listeners on Last.fm, which is pretty high for a country song. Let alone for one from a debut artist who just reached the top 20 on country. It's been in the mid 80 to lower 90 range on iTunes for quite a while now, even through the Christmas Rush! The song has quite a lot of hype building around it in the music industry. It's got a dark alt-country sound with pop influences. There is no doubt in my mind that it will at least reach the top 50 on pop. With an adds date it'll get even higher! I brought up "Redneck Woman" as an example to highlight how it didn't make any sense at all to me that, just because "it's by a female AND it's a female's debut single", that it would make the Top 50 on this format. It may be comparing apples to mulberries, but your argument triggered the slippery slope! Virtually every debut single by a female artist on the country format has failed to impact the Mainstream Top 40's Top Fifty! ;) If you want to look at songs that both sounds different from what pop plays and have odd subject matters, than look no further than what two songs are currently sitting at numbers 11 and 13 on the Sunday update. (Except maybe P!nk because of her trackrecord.) And, like I've already stated, I'm sure Musgraves was intending to demonstrate how the song's content is JUST as relevant now as it was in the 1950's, if not MORE so. It's not merely satirical. It's reality, or at least what's sold to so many of ua as reality. It's a bitter pill to swallow, and many are not going to want to, at least tuning the Top 40 dial. I haven't heard "The A Team" yet. I have heard "Try", and while that may indeed be the backstory to the song's inspiration........I don't come to that conclusion when I listen to it, or read the lyrics without knowing the song's origin. I imagine most interpret the song on a more universal level. But I guess we'll have our answer soon enough to who's right and who's wrong. ;) Prepare to lose the wager! ;) I already stated should I lose (which I won't! ;) ) I will drink the algae from my front pond. What do you intend to do when you lose? ;) Namaste, Noah Hibiscus Eaton

Was there a panel change today? Or is it post-freeze adjustments or something?

Was there a panel change today? Or is it post-freeze adjustments or something? The latter. Stations are adjusting from Christmas songs and Year End Countdowns back to normal rotation.

"Last Friday Night" used to have the spin record, not the SPS record. "Die Young" and "Locked Out of Heaven" obviously both smashed the previous spin record. "E.T.," however, still holds the SPS record. So, 15744 it is then! 1 1 BRUNO MARS Locked Out Of Heaven 15790 15385 405 121.935 Last Friday Night has the unofficial SPS record with a bit more than ET, but I think this has passed that aswell. Well, it was good while it lasted. I'm hoping it'll fall below 15744 by Sunday so Katy can keep the official record (which is the one that matters).

Anyway, this currently sits at 95.120. If it can hang on until the end of the week, then we'll have a new record holder.

I wonder how Bridgit Mendler's Ready Or Not is doing in Mediabase... I read in the Billboard's charts newsletter that RON re-entered in the Mainstream Top 40 chart. Would it be able to re-enter here too?
