Well, a few things to say about this week's chart. For one, there's a new number one song. After seven weeks on top, Jeremy Camp hands the crown over to By The Tree for their very first number one song. Only time will tell how long that song stays on top.
Casting Crowns' third single takes the biggest jump ahead on the 20: Countdown chart in recent memory. The song stepped onto the countdown last week at number 19 and this week it catapults to number six. Will it hit the Top Five next week? We'll have to wait and see. With a few weakening songs in the Top Five, it's definitely not out of the question.
One song debuts this week, the new Steven Curtis Chapman song. With "All Things New" having fallen off the chart, this one could really take off. The song that falls out of the survey this week is the long-standing "Blessed Be Your Name" by Tree63. By the way, I checked on how long "Word Of God Speak" by MercyMe had charted. I looked at the archives of 20: The Countdown Magazine and, though there was a very limited selection of charts, one of them happened to be the week that the MercyMe song debuted, which was May 31, 2003. Its last week was March 6, 2004. If my calculations are correct, that makes 41 weeks. So we got false information that "More" by Matthew West had been the chart longevity champ. But the song was definitely one of the longest on record and so is "Blessed Be Your Name". I would bet that the latter of the two is the second longest.
Even though it's starting to move down a little quicker than before, MercyMe's latest song is looking to take the chart longevity title. With 31 weeks to its name currently, it could stick around for ten more weeks and lay claim to the title and MercyMe would beat their own record. We'll have to see what happens in ensuing weeks.
Well, looks like koalaclement was right when he said that Shaun McDonald had lost his shot at the Top Ten. Last week he fell to #14 and this week he takes the biggest drop on the countdown, falling 14-19. This could be his last week on the chart, which I think is a shame, since it's a cool song.
The second biggest drop of the week belongs to Bethany Dillon. Eleven weeks after debuting all the way up at #10, she's back where she started. Possibly her last week in the Top Ten if the songs below it regain strength.
One of these songs is Building 429's latest hit "The Space In Between Us". After making a spectacular ten spot move to number ten last week, the song drops a notch to #11. Jon said that song will probably re-enter the Top Ten before long and I agree. It just needs to make the prerequisite weird chart moves first.
Another song that I have a feeling will return to the Top Ten is Watermark's "Glory Of Your Name". The song continues to slowly fall after debuting at #10 two weeks ago. It is currently at number thirteen, down a spot.
After debuting at number 14 two weeks ago and falling to 18 last week, Shane and Shane manage to move back up the countdown a spot. Will they find their way to the Top Ten? We'll find out in due time I'm sure.
This week's Jon's Future Favorite is by a regular visitor to the 20: Countdown chart. In fact, they're by a regular visitor to the #1 spot. MercyMe works their personal tragedies from late last year and early this year into their new song which I have no doubt will hit the countdown really soon and will probably go all the way.
