^Nickelback is just another act whose commercial success has far outshone its critical standing. The commercial success has nothing to do with "so many people" not liking the band.

I think they go perfectly hand-in-hand. If Nickelback didn't receive any commercial success, people wouldn't hate them so much. The hate comes from the fact that many think they're so generic and mainstream yet they're so successful. There's tons of others bands out there who are far worse than Nickelback, but because few like them, very few hate them as well.

But that makes sense; if you don't like Nickelback's music then it's even more annoying to have to constantly (in their heyday) hear it on the radio and out in public. It fostered that hatred because every time you would hear it it would grind on your nerves. It wasn't just "I hate them because other people like them." Although admittedly there are snobby people who think that way. But if I think Blue October or Stone Sour is a worse band, well, who cares. I never hear them and they're easier to forget about.

Well, that could be so neverdup- there are some who just do not like mainstream, successful acts, no matter who they happen to be. I just meant that Nickelback simultaneously can have many fans and commercial success, and still be reviled, by other music fans and critics, etc. Which should go without saying...

Yes, 21 crossed 100k this week! Black Keys continues to be a solid seller! I hope they perform in the Grammys. Their previous album Brother is doing good as well. Nice debut for Snow Patrol. Kelly almost went back to the top 10. I really hope it will outsell All I Ever Wanted and she sells 1 million again, AIW came close though with 900k+
Lana Del Ray enters. She has some hype I can see. The one to watch for this year.

Is there any albums out this month that are a threat to Adele's reign? With the Grammy's coming up, I would think she has an easy 5 weeks at #1 ahead of her.

Interesting that multi-artist soundtracks account for 2 of the top 5 since this type of album hasn't generally done well overall in a long time
Soundscan era - longest running #1 - multi-artist soundtrack
1. Bodyguard (20) 2. Titanic (16) 3. Lion King (10) 4, Waiting To Exhale (5) 5. Dangerous Minds, 8 Mile, Bad Boys II, High School Musical 2 (4)

What did they win a Grammy for? They didn't. That article was wrong.

I first interpreted that as a Kiz Bop version of Adele's 21.

this drives me crazy...people say that so many people hate Nickleback....Look at their last 2 albums....Didn't they sell like 6 and 3 million...I mean Im not a huge fan but their albums sell like crazy...this one might not sell alot.but it does sell It probably drives you crazy because it's true. I don't hate Nickelback, I simply don't care about them. My observation is that many people hate them. There has been tons of artist in the past who have sold millions of albums but are widely hated. They've also been booed off stage on numerous occasions.
